Just bumbling around poking at things that perk my interest. If those things are tech related, I generally at some point get around to blogging[1] about them. I have a real passion for Mozilla as an organisation and thus they're often the focus of my efforts. I believe Open Source is fundamental to the advancement of software and as is my character, I'm very openly opinionated about that.

sabret00the··on Inventing a Soccer Ball for Poor Countries
Oh, I see what you've done there. In the very thing you quote, it refers to Football and Football Associations. For further reference, we look no further than Federation of International Football Associations and Union of European Football Associations. Which is not FIAFA nor UEAFA.
sabret00the··on Inventing a Soccer Ball for Poor Countries
I ignored the other comment, but since people are trying to quote stuff, I feel it's important to put it right. Football is the official name in the United Kingdom and especially England. We don't have the Association Football Association but rather the Football Association. It doesn't not have a prefix when it's referred to in any form of media at all. 'Beach Soccer' has no relevance here.

sabret00the··on Moody’s Cuts Sony Rating to One Notch Above Junk
It's a little harsh given the reality. While consumer demand for their products is shrinking. Consumer demand for most products are shrinking. They still have one of the best selling games systems in the world. They have deep roots in audio and visual media entertainment as well as the fact that they're likely to be the big winners of the demise of HTC. Don't get me wrong, Samsung will take the majority share of the former HTC customers, but Sony will get a real shot in the arm giving them the opportunity to really move into modern day mobile devices.
sabret00the··on Inventing a Soccer Ball for Poor Countries
Obligatory "it's football not soccer" comment from the Brit.

That aside, this is a fabulous thing. Anyone can play football in tight spaces with a group and on their own. Being the biggest sport on the planet, it's a marvellous thing that you can go literally anywhere and ask someone to play a game and you pretty much all know the simple rules. I'll always get behind things like this.

sabret00the··on Eight Years of Firefox
Today is the anniversary of the settled identity crisis that once was. Firefox has served me great for years though and now I can't imagine calling it anything else.
sabret00the··on Apple awarded design patent for actual rounded rectangle
I notice that the Editor's pick comment notes how Microsoft have one for the Xbox and Lucas Arts has one for Yoda. Both are in fact original designs, the iPad on the other hand doesn't fall into that category. This is another case of the USPTO failing for me.
sabret00the··on "I think you will all appreciate this person's commenting style"
So just out of curiosity, why doesn't Adobe embark on those two projects? We're entering a new era of desktop software, surely that should be a catalyst for redesigning both from scratch?
sabret00the··on As Android hits 75% market share, can anyone tell me why this is not Mac vs PC?
The Nexus phone is a single phone that comes out each year and it designed to progress the ecosystem. It isn't about pushing the boundaries or picking up sales, it's about setting the benchmark for the ecosystem. Hence why it's called a development phone. I think you're overestimating its importance.

The majority of Samsung's customers are Samsung customers. They've bought into the brand. They're not about to jump ship to LG.

sabret00the··on As Android hits 75% market share, can anyone tell me why this is not Mac vs PC?
I don't get why people keep talking Samsung forking Android. Samsung also sell Windows Phone and will sell Tizen phones. Not to mention, they've already failed with their own OS. They're better at hardware and software overlays than providing an attractive ecosystem.

sabret00the··on Mozilla UX: Save For Later (why bookmarks are broken and how to fix it)
I have three uses of saved pages. - The open tab: return to it later - Panorama: want to return to it at some point but don't want it off my radar - Bookmarks: pages I read and close a lot. i.e. a folder full of android news sites

Admittedly I also use bookmarks for pages I visit once in a blue moon too or for very specific functions.

The bookmark experience can be improved, with things like opening all bookmarks featuring a specific tag from the address bar. But I feel that where Mozilla drops the ball the most is with Panorama.

sabret00the··on What’s New in Evernote 5
For the longest time I've been looking for an Evernote alternative that is open source and able to sync my notes between Windows and Android (and desktop Linux) but haven't found one.

I really hoped that Mozilla would diversify and offer something in this regard. No such luck though.

sabret00the··on Why Android 4.2′s Multiple User Account Switching Is Tablet-Only (Hint: Patents)
Just out of curiosity, how often do you let someone else use your phone? Not check out your phone but actually use it to the point they'd require a guest mode? Guest mode on a phone is like flying lunches in via Concorde from Paris.
sabret00the··on Install Ubuntu on Nexus 7
Why would there be? Android is a better OS than Ubuntu right now. Especially given all the issues that Ubuntu currently has on the Nexus (keyboard, camera, bluetooth, etc).
sabret00the··on This is Google’s Nexus 10 by Samsung With Android 4.2
I simply don't get why they'd centre the on-screen buttons. Surely the ergonomics don't support such a move?

sabret00the··on Apple loses UK tablet design appeal versus Samsung
The simplicity thing is a win for both camps in terms of marketing.
sabret00the··on Apple loses UK tablet design appeal versus Samsung
The Surface looks more like the iPad than the Galaxy Tab. Don't get me wrong, Samsung ripped the original iPhone off with their Galaxy S(1) but anything beyond that just didn't happen. Decisions like this make me proud of our British judicial system.
sabret00the··on OAuth 2.0 finalized
Finally. Now if only more Android app developers would rely on an open OAuth model rather than forcing users to use the stock browser.

sabret00the··on Firefox 16 live: Here's What's New
How can they listen if you're not actually talking. It's like buying a product from China and then moaning in your living room there's a defect rather than actually telling them.
sabret00the··on Firefox 16 live: Here's What's New
Thanks for putting some context on your content. I too was wondering what you were getting at with it. In regards to Mozilla "not listening", did you file bugs for your ideas/gripes?

sabret00the··on Firefox 16 live: Here's What's New
Hopefully someone will take on the enormous undertaking that will be fixing Panorama/Tab Candy to work properly. Where's Santa? That's all I want for Christmas.
sabret00the··on Firefox 16 live: Here's What's New
Hasn't that been a feature from day one. Are you sure you haven't got the option ticked that forces links to open in external tabs/windows?
sabret00the··on Firefox 16 live: Here's What's New
Web Apps are a very real part of the future of the web. The fact that this space exists in the first place whereby there was only desktop apps previously should be testament enough to that. I may not personally agree with Mozilla in regards to the role of web apps, but I think that we all agree, it's better to be in a position to allow users to make their own minds up rather than go off of what a few loud naysayers want.

sabret00the··on Please Don't Kill Feedburner
I'm with you 100%. For an incredibly long time I've wanted to see Firefox assimilate the Brief extension. I especially hope they do so with all the furore surrounding Twitter.
sabret00the··on Announcing the First Beta Release of Persona
Find it hilarious that this got marked down and yet it's something Mozilla have spent the last week moving towards getting this fixed.
