s09dfhks··on Ask HN: How do you sync your computer’s development configurations/environment?
mackup + syncthing
s09dfhks··on 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Full Review: Electric Truck for the Masses
I’m always conflicted when watching automotive reviewers. How do we know they’re not getting kickbacks for positive reviews
s09dfhks··on Eight hundred employees resign after WhiteHat Jr asks them to work from office
Reminds me of the fictional highschool prodigy musician "Ling Ling" that the "Ling Ling 40hrs" subreddit created
s09dfhks··on Secrets: A command-line tool to prevent committing secret keys into your source
interesting that the author defines a list of pre-defined secrets to scan for

https://github.com/sirwart/secrets/blob/main/src/find_secret...

Why no check for AWS keys?

s09dfhks··on Apple iOS privacy clampdown 'did little' to reduce tracking
So facebook lost 2bil in value over nothing?
s09dfhks··on Why I'll never use Affirm again
I feel like all these online "buy now pay later" services are just there to prey on poor people
s09dfhks··on Ask HN: How do you share your personal setup over different computers?
dot files in a directory, directory synced everywhere using dropbox/syncthing. Mackup to symlink all my dotfiles back to that shared dir
s09dfhks··on Move and resize windows in macOS using keyboard shortcuts or snap areas
Same! It still works just fine for me. Not sure why you’d need to switch unless apple kills whatever APIs it’s using
s09dfhks··on Netflix plans to start charging for password sharing, and customers aren't happy
This used to exist! It was called joker.tk I think.

It would allow you to paste a magnet / torrent link and it would start streaming the file to you. Ironically I found it cause it was posted on hacker news. As you can guess it was shut down immediately

s09dfhks··on Ask HN: Do you have to use LinkedIn to get hired?
I deleted my linkedin in ~2016 and have been fine without it. All it ever did was allow low effort recruiter spam for jobs I had nothing to do with
s09dfhks··on Buried in Infrastructure Bill Is a Mandatory Backdoor Kill Switch for Your Car
Curious how this would impact motorsports. My friends and I like to take our "daily drivers" to track days. The advantage being we can drive home with the AC and music playing. Sure there are some people who buy cars and rip out the interiors for the full on "Race car" experience, but I feel like this bill would kill us casuals
s09dfhks··on Leaving Google
Snowflake is this way too. Its so depressing
s09dfhks··on Wuhan scientists planned to release coronavirus particles into cave bats
interesting. I'd be curious to see what the "it came from a lab" deniers take on this one is
s09dfhks··on Matrix trailer dynamically uses current time
Neat
s09dfhks··on Apple employees organizing for 'systemic change' in workplace
I understand that part, you cannot terminate someone for organizing. There have been posts here about Amazon and Google using a PIP as a "legal" means to terminate someone, so I'm curious if a large portion of "loud" individuals at Apple are suddenly going to have productivity issues all at the same time
s09dfhks··on Ask HN: Managing career progression for those with no interest in progressing?
> Be fair, don't penalize them for not fighting to climb the ladder.

I really wish this was accepted more. FAANG's whole "up or out" career progression rat race has done so much harm to the industry -_-

s09dfhks··on Apple employees organizing for 'systemic change' in workplace
Not being cynical, I am genuinely curious. As most of these employees are based in California, which is an at-will-employment state, what is stopping Apple from terminating the ones making the noise but under the guise of poor performance (PIP) like most of the other FAANGs do?
s09dfhks··on Welcoming our first riders in San Francisco
Interesting timing given this article which was just posted a day or so ago on HN

s09dfhks··on Endless Sky: an open source space trading and combat game
i recall playing some portable space shooter game on the library computers after school with my classmates (this would have been around 2002?). Can anyone think of what it was called?

All I remember is it was top down and everyone had their own ship

s09dfhks··on Citizen pays New Yorkers to livestream crime scenes
One of my all time favorite films. As soon as I read this headline I thought of it immediately. Could this lead to a new breed of ambulance chasers seeking a different kind of pay-day?
