rywalker··on What I'd tell myself about startups if I could go back 5 years
Great post Ben, curious if you collected that list over time or just got on an inspired roll :)
rywalker··on Meteor 1.1 Released – Now Supporting Microsoft Windows and MongoDB 3.0
I literally just published a post that tries to answer this question :) https://www.airpair.com/meteor/posts/choose-meteor-for-your-...
rywalker··on Meteor 1.1 Released – Now Supporting Microsoft Windows and MongoDB 3.0
We're getting past that, the issue is top-of-mind for Meteor and community continues to work on better solution, for example https://meteorhacks.com/meteor-server-sider-rendering-for-se...
rywalker··on User Analytics as Your Product Grows
You and me both :) Ironically, even analytics companies can have cobbler's shoes syndrome. Good analytics is a journey, not a destination.
rywalker··on CD shattering at 170,000 frames per second – The Slow Mo Guys
Wow - very cool :)
rywalker··on User Analytics as Your Product Grows
Once you learn about Snowplow's canonical event model (https://github.com/snowplow/snowplow/wiki/Canonical-event-mo...) or read Keen's data modeling guide (https://keen.io/docs/event-data-modeling/event-data-intro/) you quickly realize all the stuff that you haven't been recording :)
rywalker··on User Analytics as Your Product Grows
glad i pasted this here, found a typo :)
rywalker··on User Analytics as Your Product Grows
Totally agree - here's a quote from our YC Application Summary that we're submitting today...

"Mid-stage product owners that rely on all-in-one user user analytics platforms eventually outgrow the simplicity of those tools. Many choose to build their own user events datawarehouse at this point."

Sounds like I'm describing you personally ;)

rywalker··on Making Phil Libin style cohort visualizations available to everyone
Suprisingly, no issues w/ Polymer in production. The Google guys didn't lie to us when they said "sure, you should use it in production."

Honestly we get asked who our designer is all the time, and I say "it was Google. A whole team of world-class designers at Google."

rywalker··on Making Phil Libin style cohort visualizations available to everyone
Thanks Kyle — been wanting to share with you guys all the crap we've been doing for some time, finally found some time to write some of it down this week.

I'll think about some API ideas, but I'm not too shy about firing over ideas as they come to me. You've got great support people, the stuff always gets done.

rywalker··on Getting Started with Event Data and Keen.io
Great guide Mark — it's important to get event data right, or else it really limits the analysis you can do. I'm always so sad when I discover bad data.
rywalker··on Making Phil Libin style cohort visualizations available to everyone
We considered building on Mixpanel (and still are open to it) — we were 100% certain that Keen IO had the API we needed, and we liked that their business model was in line with what we're doing.

Also, I was worried that since Mixpanel is somewhat of a competitor, it wouldn't be wise to use them as a foundation.

rywalker··on Making Phil Libin style cohort visualizations available to everyone
Heh — I actually have never met the man. Someday...

We're also working on making space travel free and open too.

First cohort analysis, next... space travel.

rywalker··on Ask HN: Is Meteor.js mature to enough to use it for building big applications?
Heh Alex — the Meteor posse has arrived to this thread (I'm a big Meteor fan too!) I'll echo some of the others, that any issues with Meteor being ready for primetime don't have to do with the issues you cited, but more around being unproven to scale at high traffic (also not disproven).

I've been using Meteor since early 2013 on all my web projects, and for me the core team goes to the correct feature depth — there's 4000+ packages on Atomosphere — it'd be really hard to determine how deep they should go pulling things into the core.

rywalker··on Do you know how bad your features are?
Oh wow, you're right... yuck! gotta fix that.
rywalker··on [dead]
Nice post Josh — seems like Meteor has gained a lot of momentum and it's good to rehash exactly what it is, there are definitely misconceptions out there.
rywalker··on Kiss metrics, once the “lean” champion, now charges minimum $179/mo
yeah it's not the right answer anymore for early-stage startups. Mixpanel seems to have better structure. Keen.io has startup-friendly pricing, but you have to roll your own front-end.
rywalker··on Show HN: Dominus – Multiplayer browser strategy game made with Meteor
it's production ready — however it's still very early in the life of the framework, so expect the unexpected.
rywalker··on Help me find a site I saw in past few weeks
YES! That was it. Thanks so much.
rywalker··on Ask HN: What serverside programming language would you use in your next startup?
node
rywalker··on Scaling Meteor: The Challenges of Real-time Apps
Wow — very in depth article by Tom Coleman. As we get more growing Meteor apps out in the wild, scaling become a larger concern. Good to see Meteor Development Group focusing so much attention on it, and great tools from the community too.
rywalker··on What are some good use cases for famo.us?
Yeah — famo.us is a javascript tool like D3, jQuery, etc. So I think use cases are more centered around new and interesting interface concepts, that could be applied within a wide variety of specific apps.
rywalker··on Thank You DHH (and others)
hmm - i don't see the author picture flash - i'm chrome 31 on osx mavericks but i don't see how that'd be very different :(
rywalker··on Thank You DHH (and others)
curious what browser you're using?
rywalker··on [dead]
I actually recommend "Running Lean" by Ash Maurya as a more practical guide to the analytics.
rywalker··on The 'deeper why' of open source
My switch from Microsoft to the world of open source 8 years ago was like taking the red pill — absolutely transformation in how I thought about and now build software.
rywalker··on Show HN: travel.meteor.com: clone of mywanderlust in Meteor
Doesn't seem to be working for me - just get message "we dispatched the elves to get your trip details, hold tight"
rywalker··on How We Built a Lean Startup Inside a 200 Person Company
Thanks for sharing Andy — I'm preparing a talk "Applying Lean Startup to the Enterprise" and will reference your post :)

Great looking Ghost blog too, btw.

rywalker··on Why Meteor will kill Ruby on Rails
@neya have you tried Meteor yet? I am a Rails dev since 0.8 — but since moving to Meteor the past few months, I'll not go back to Rails.
rywalker··on Why Meteor will kill Ruby on Rails
I have more faith in open-source community to fix warts vs. closed-source Microsoft. I did ASP.NET back when it launched, and Microsoft wasn't setup to really listen to developers like the Meteor team is.
