rynop··on Show HN: GitHub Trending Repos
https://github.com/trending does but if you look at his repo he says "None of alternatives can send notifications per programming language. That's why I've created this project."
rynop··on 1Password X: A look at the future of 1Password in the browser
So found it - there is a "Sign in to another account" at the bottom of the login page.
rynop··on 1Password X: A look at the future of 1Password in the browser
Anyone else having issues adding a second account? I goto chrome://extensions/ click on 1Password X "options" > + Add an acct. I then get prompted to login to my 1st account, have no option to add a second account.
rynop··on New Skype Update Is Horrible
You could totally remove "New" and "Update" from that sentence and it would still be a very true statement.

* Full disclosure: my co. was acquired and forced to use office suite.

rynop··on Going Multi-Cloud with Google Cloud Endpoints and AWS Lambda
clickbait. I don't consider this multi-cloud
rynop··on Bose Headphones Spy on Users, Lawsuit Says
I have the 35s. How does one get in on signing the class action? Or can you only do this after it has gone to trial and has gone in favor of plaintiff?
rynop··on Ask HN: Is S3 down?
"fraction of the cost" - how do you figure? Or are you just saying from a cost-to-store perspective?

Your Egress prices are quite a bit more compared to CloudFront for sub 10TB (.12/GB vs .085/GB).

The track record of s3 outages vs time your up and sending Egress seems like S3 wins in cost. If all your worried about is cross region data storage, your probably a big player and have AWS enterprise agreement in place which offsets the cost of storage.

rynop··on Western Union admits to aiding wire fraud, to pay $586M
Nope. We went to the cops but they said they wouldn't even spend time investigating unless she was taken for 100 K or more. Given that information we figured it was moot. Too bad the exporters could not be fou too bad the exporters could not be exposed. Fn shame
rynop··on Western Union admits to aiding wire fraud, to pay $586M
Is this a class action lawsuit? My quick searches point to no.

My elderly mother-in-law got scammed, and it was pretty ridiculous how WU allowed it to go through given the circumstances.

Just wondering if/how to potentially get some of the $ back via this lawsuit.

rynop··on Google Allo a Success or a Failure: Analysis of Data By Region
yea I don't want another messaging client. I want less apps, less things. Make me more efficient. Its a shame cuz the assistant in Allo is kick ass.
rynop··on Google Allo a Success or a Failure: Analysis of Data By Region
Agreed. iMessage handles this great. I was hoping Allo was the iMessage killer. I'm a google fanboy, and this next gen messaging direction by G is really disappointing
rynop··on Google Allo a Success or a Failure: Analysis of Data By Region
The lack of unified SMS integration was a HUGE mistake IMO. As much as these messaging apps want SMS to go away, its not. It is the only common "language" across all devices and providers - not to mention the older generation has no idea WTF all these messaging apps are.

My hope was that Allo was going to fix the disaster of a decision by google to split SMS and Messages apart in Hangouts.

I want one app that supports SMS and messages and I want it web enabled so I can use it from my computer. iMessage has this nailed.

I was a Google Fi customer. Before hangouts separated function I had an awesome cross platform unified messaging experience. I'm switching to iPhone after 7+ yrs on android partially due to this android messaging mess.

rynop··on 10 Most Coveted Cars That Aren't Made Anymore
This article loses all cred cuz it does not have the toyota supra even on the list
rynop··on Entering Public Beta
From what I can tell, this does not support generating an SSL cert for use with AWS ELB correct?
rynop··on OAuth Has Ruined Everything
I hate OAuth [2.0] as well.

So how do you do twitter? They don't have a full JS client side implementation..

rynop··on What the IBM Acquisition of StrongLoop Means for the Node.js Community
Private or public repos? From my experience collaborating in public (which will continue to be critical in this space) was painful/impossible in some scenarios
rynop··on What the IBM Acquisition of StrongLoop Means for the Node.js Community
Curious - how long ago did they acquire you? Your software get rolled into an IBM product or is it self standing? They let you continue to use your productive tools (asana, github, slack etc)?
rynop··on What the IBM Acquisition of StrongLoop Means for the Node.js Community
former IBM dev here (6 years in different areas). I hope they let you work on an island and don't force you to use their tooling/approve listed of open source software.

IBM has long embraced the OSS community (I loved LTC), but the process to release/use anything OSS was not good (to put it nicely) and was one of the many reasons I left.

I worked on a project that was on an island, and while it was more efficient than normal IBM dev, it was still 10x slower and tons of red tape then what was required to make a competitive product (and stay competitive). IBM is big and ultimately has to protect themselves - IMO ultimately it gets in your way of making a good/competitive product.

I like what StrongLoop does for the node community, and I do indeed hope you are successful and nothing changes. But to be honest I am very skeptical.

rynop··on US Patent 9085897: Space elevator
This should be re-branded as a nuclear waste ejector, maybe it (and nuclear power option) would get some [more] traction.
rynop··on How and Why Swiftype Moved from EC2 to Real Hardware
What specific piece saw the biggest boost? My guess is MongoDB. Also if new servers take 1-2 hours, you are always paying for what you "think" will be capacity for peak load correct? How do you handle events that quickly and drastically increase load or txn/sec?
rynop··on NHL partners with GoPro to deliver fans unique perspectives of the game
That would be awesome. They already have other electronics in their helmet for the in-helmet speaker - so why not add a few more ha
rynop··on NHL partners with GoPro to deliver fans unique perspectives of the game
Totally agree - 3D is a fn gimmick. Hockey goalie view is the only scenario i can currently think of that would make me really want to use it. GoPRO I'm here for you if you want help in implementing :)
rynop··on NHL partners with GoPro to deliver fans unique perspectives of the game
How awesome would it be if they could pull off 3D? A 3D view from the goalie would actually make me want to break out those 3D glasses I got with my TV that are still in the plastic wrapping.

This is a great first step however - getting into the market will open the doors for some really cool stuff - and hopefully give fans a better appreciation for the real speed of the game .

rynop··on AWS CodeCommit
jgit is a java implementation of git, that just so happens to have built in s3 support.

You can get a self contained cli (jgit.sh) from here: https://eclipse.org/jgit/download/ . It does not have an eclipse dependency.

you can then just add an s3 remote and push to this remote as part of your CI flow.

Here is a decent article that describes the end-to-end: http://www.fancybeans.com/blog/2012/08/24/how-to-use-s3-as-a...

rynop··on AWS CodeCommit
We love github, don't get me wrong (and we pay decent $ for it). But I'm looking at track record / experience with it doing production auto deploys for years.

S3 has 9 9s of durability and is "closer" to where our servers run so there are less possible points of failure. We have had 0 issues since migrating to s3 backed git repo 2 years ago.

We still use github for day-to-day scm mgmt as you guys have tons of extra value add.

rynop··on AWS CodeCommit
Have you ever looked into using an s3 backed git repo via jgit? Not sure how many files/revisions you have but it may be a cost effective alternative that you can start using today.

We use it for auto deploys from autoscaled instances cuz github has poor uptime.

rynop··on AWS CodeCommit
Have you ever used github for automated/autoscaled deploys? Github is too unstable to rely on. We autodeploy from s3 backed git repo via jgit.
rynop··on Amazon DNS error
The Route53 (AWS DNS service) is 100% SLA: http://aws.amazon.com/route53/sla/

I would hope they honor this dns issue under the same guidelines although its technically not the route53 service we are paying for.
