ryanlitalien··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
I did the same, used to be a Nike guy. Switched to a zero drop, wide toe box Altra, and have stayed with them since. (Topo is another competitor in the same space)
ryanlitalien··on DeepClaude – Claude Code agent loop with DeepSeek V4 Pro
Great ideas, I'll look at those too. We're only a few steps away from building our own cloud providers :D.
ryanlitalien··on DeepClaude – Claude Code agent loop with DeepSeek V4 Pro
Kudos! Cool idea, I'm on the same path you are, yet you're just one step ahead. For mouse.dev, what are you using for the cloud agent sandbox piece? I haven't moved my agents to the cloud yet (for on the go mobile enablement). Would Islo be a competitor to mouse?

ryanlitalien··on I've been waiting over a month for Anthropic to respond to my billing issue
That's why I'm getting charged extra! Thank you for the tip.
ryanlitalien··on Show HN: Simple Viewers – Tiny native macOS file viewers
Not yet! I use cmd+w for closing the window and cmd+q to quit, I try to keep focus on one file at a time. If enough folks ask for it, I'll add that in :).
ryanlitalien··on How will OpenAI compete?
I speak native English and barebones high school Spanish. I recently visited Costa Rica and almost every time there was a language barrier issue (unknown word or phrase), the local folks opened ChatGPT, said what they were trying to say in Spanish and then had ChatGPT convert it to English. It was everywhere.
ryanlitalien··on Claude Code gets native LSP support
I've been using their git diff/checkin tools built into RubyMine since I started with git. Going on about 12-13 years now. Their conflict resolution UI is so much easier than editing text contents between the >>>>s and <<<<s.
ryanlitalien··on Launch HN: Diversion (YC S22) – Cloud-Native Git Alternative
That totally depends on where you put value. We're a fraction of other companies licenses for comparison. Also, we have new pricing for our new Helix Core Cloud SaaS product!
ryanlitalien··on Launch HN: Diversion (YC S22) – Cloud-Native Git Alternative
Lightweight branching is coming "soon" and will help this exact issue. Contact me for more info.
ryanlitalien··on Launch HN: Diversion (YC S22) – Cloud-Native Git Alternative
Our recently released Helix Core Cloud actually doesn't require managing your own server, we'll do that for you, as it's a SaaS using flexible licensing: https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/app...
ryanlitalien··on Launch HN: Diversion (YC S22) – Cloud-Native Git Alternative
We have quite a few cloud options actually, with our Helix Cloud option just releasing last week! https://www.perforce.com/perforce-and-cloud
ryanlitalien··on Launch HN: Diversion (YC S22) – Cloud-Native Git Alternative
It's called Helix4Git and you can mirror (and other options) your git repo into Helix Core using a "graph" depot type.
ryanlitalien··on Launch HN: Diversion (YC S22) – Cloud-Native Git Alternative
Can confirm, a lot of studios want to self-host.
ryanlitalien··on Launch HN: Diversion (YC S22) – Cloud-Native Git Alternative
Hi, why the switch? Purely cost? Or admin overhead?
ryanlitalien··on Mitchell reflects as he departs HashiCorp
Congratulations! I was an early Vagrant user, it helped immensely, thank you!
ryanlitalien··on The Old Internet Is Dying, and Something Worse Is Being Born
> As the web declines, we pause to talk about the death of criticism and what happens when someone rips off your work.

So if I paste the transcript here on HN, would that prove their point? As currently, I'm not in a position to listen to an hour-long podcast?

ryanlitalien··on Show HN: Beeper Mini – iMessage client for Android
Was able to fix. I have 6+ Google accounts, and one of the accounts didn't have it checked, so it needs to be all, instead of just the account you're looking to connect.
ryanlitalien··on Show HN: Beeper Mini – iMessage client for Android
Same as above. Pixel 5, running Android 14. (Edit: the help link provided did not help, as the toggle was already on)
ryanlitalien··on GraphCast: AI model for weather forecasting
You'll need a local weather expert to assist, as terrain, geography and other hyper-local factors create forecasting unpredictability. For example, Jay Peak in VT has its own weather, the road in has no snow, but it's a raging snowstorm on the mountain.
ryanlitalien··on Confusing Git Terminology
There have been several solutions, git is just the latest. The switch decision has several factors, it's not a quick or easy pick. Do you need tighter file security? Does your team generate/store files larger than N gigabytes? Are you writing integrations? Are you debating microservices vs monolith? And a big one, do you need official support?

(Disclaimer, I work at Perforce. Happy to answer any questions!).

ryanlitalien··on Oxford study proves heat pumps triumph over fossil fuels in the cold
This one? I recently watched it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH6r6J3WsDk
ryanlitalien··on Unity Weta Tools
Do you have source? From what I heard last, they're using a heavily modified version of Unreal.
ryanlitalien··on Detangle: AI-generated summaries of legal docs
Absolutely fantastic! This is a great use of AI here, definitely using this going forward. A bit concerned though, the LLC name doesn't give confidence when reading through the output with confidence.
ryanlitalien··on Ask HN: Concepts that clicked only years after you first encountered them?
Docker.
ryanlitalien··on The “Oscar movie” is dying
I'd disagree. There are a few (or more?) actors, directors and producers that make movies solely for receiving the Oscar nomination/win. One example is "The Deer Hunter".

Note, on looking into provide specifics, this came up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_bait

ryanlitalien··on Ask HN: Software architects – what’s your typical day look like?
These fluff and idea types are typically called "Ivory Tower" architects (from my experience).
ryanlitalien··on Flu and colds are back with a vengeance
Thought it was just me! I'm really usually pretty healthy, but a few back to back colds is unusual.
ryanlitalien··on Tell HN: After 10 years of experiments, custom username emails receive no spam
From having experience in email marketing, I highly doubt companies are editing email addresses before send. But you are right though, I have had signups that denied the "+" via JS.
ryanlitalien··on Tell HN: After 10 years of experiments, custom username emails receive no spam
I use an alternate spam filter process. I use a "+" sign in my gmail address. So I would subscribe to a promotion/giveaway with username+company@gmail.com. This is a great way to catch which promotion/company sells your email address to unwanted companies.

Caveat, sometimes an unsubscribe website can't handle the "+" symbol in an email and you'll continue to get spam. So, just add a filter for that "TO" email to forward to the spam/trash folder.
