russh··on “Put on the Diamonds”: Notes on Humiliation
Made me stop after searching for her name and not finding it in the rest of the article.
russh··on IRS Poses as Bitcoin Trader ‘Mr Coins’ in $180k Sting
Only if you assume it was an attempt at reporting and not a government psyop meant to discourage bitcoin use for potentially illegal activities.
russh··on The All-Seeing “i”: Apple Just Declared War on Your Privacy
Today it’s CP, next year it will be copyright violations…
russh··on Ask HN: Does your job make the world a better place?
Yes.
russh··on D2X-XL – an OpenGL modification of the classic video game Descent 2
Same here, but the last time I played Descent it was with a full Thrustmaster setup including throttle, pedals and CrystalEyes 3D shutter glasses on a 19" monitor... Good times... lots of headaches.. but good times.
russh··on Apple enabling client-side CSAM scanning on iPhone tomorrow
First they came for kiddie porn, and I did not speak out -because I had no kiddie porn. Then they came for Pepe the frog memes. I did not speak out -because I was held in solitary confinement pending trial and successful completion of the re-education camp.
russh··on Facebook reportedly researching ways to use encrypted WhatsApp messages for ads
I'm convinced that the real target of targeted advertising is actually the ad buyers and not the ad viewers. It's a tool to increase the revenue of the ad sellers.
russh··on The rise of never-ending job interviews
They do now.
russh··on PC can't be shipped to CA, CO, HI, OR, VT or WA due to power consumption
Computers account for about 3% of residential electricity use, so obviously it's the logical place to start.

russh··on Google Drive bans distribution of “misleading content”
Impartiality is just one in a long line of canceled google products.
russh··on Casio SK-1
We spent most of our recording burps and playing them back and making prank phone calls.
russh··on Instructions show how cops use GrayKey to brute force iPhones
Not possible, it is now a paper weight. Found this out when a disgruntled employee “forgot” the passcodes to several devices before quitting.
russh··on America has a drinking problem
I used to think mind-boggling big was a bunch of hyperbole until I drove from Georgia to Washington State. I’ve flown across the US a few times and it seemed big but not mind-boggling big. I can’t imagine how much bigger the US would be on horseback or on foot, and I’m ok with that.
russh··on Abolish High School (2015)
My high school experience is specifically one of the reasons I didn’t have kids. I wasn’t going to subject anyone to the shit I experienced in high school.
russh··on Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach
My favorite rejected review was for 6 slate coasters that arrived as slate chips because they were shipped in a large envelope with no padding.
russh··on Blizzard has lost almost 29% of its overall active playerbase in three years
I went from hardcore-raider-lite to casual and then they gated my characters progress behind raid level dungeons I just lost interest.
russh··on My Favorite One Liners
Same here, I still use svn on my 20 year old projects and haven't felt the need change. I use git for my newer projects but occasionally run into issues that cause me to have to search for a solution.
russh··on My Favorite One Liners
Thank you, thank you, thank you! "open ." is post-it note worthy.
russh··on Amazon knew seller data was used to boost company sales
People have done worse for less. It may not be a significant fraction of Amazon’s income but it could be a significant fraction of a sellers income or a significant fraction of sales manager’s sales.
russh··on Want to Learn Programming and Microcontrollers?
One of my recent projects was a robot using a LILYGO T-Display module running MicroPython. I'm going to use them in "Build a Drawbot" workshops at our local Makerspace. The previous version used an Arduno running TinyBasic. I think Python and Wifi capability will make it a little more accessible.

russh··on GitHub blocks FLoC across all of GitHub Pages
Yes, but a totally anonymous singleton group... with a unique ID.
russh··on The Washington state legislature has voted to end limits on municipal broadband
Let me tell you it is just as rough on the other end of the phone. "Yeah, I just got this email from somebody I don't know but it had an attachment I want to read. My anti-virus will not let me open it even after I disabled it. What is wrong with your email server? I even sent it to my laptop and Excel won't let me open it as well, what is wrong with your email server? Oh never mind it finally opened but it looks blank and now Outlook is acting weird, what is wrong with your email server?"
russh··on My Son, the Organ Donor
This may come as a surprise to you, as it did me... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filial_responsibility_laws
russh··on IBM COBOL for Linux on x86
I know several places still using AS/400's, I wish they would stop calling me about software I wrote over 30 years ago.

Yesterday.
russh··on Ask HN: The easiest programming language for teaching programming to young kids?
I was talking to my neighbors 10 year old son one day and the subject of computers came up. He told me they were started using Scratch at school but he's since moved on to Python because he "felt he was more of a Python guy." He enjoyed Scratch because he could do something and get results quickly. Once he got the hang of it, be got tired of the user interface and the teacher introduced him to python. I'll have to see what he thinks these days.
russh··on When Bitcoin miners take over a town (2018)
Thats a lot of words to say "The wrong people are making money."
russh··on How GoodRx Profits from Our Broken Pharmacy Pricing System (2020)
When my wife was without insurance we used GoodRX to drop the cost of her Propranolol to just under half of the cash price. Once she was eligible for insurance it was still cheaper to use GoodRX but the pharmacy refused and said she had to use her insurance or pay cash.
