russdill··on I'm a USB-C Maximalist
This is an acceptable failure mode. I'd be nice if there was a standardized LED flash or color that you could get so if your relative said something isn't working, you could ask, "Is it flashing three times?" or whatever.

The alternative is barrel connectors. If you plug in the wrong one, there's a decent chance that it a) won't work, or b) never work again.

russdill··on I'm a USB-C Maximalist
The step I've taken is just purchasing USB-C to barrel in various voltages and labeling them appropriately.

The apple 2 5.25 drive does quarter track steps. I think this may be the issue.
russdill··on Camera with transparent display launches for the equivalent of $29
I would argue for some form of head tracking to always display the appropriate frame.

It would be nice if you could use hud display tech so it would automatically track, but I don't think it's possible in this form factor

"One cmake invocation goes from source to a bootable disc.gdi. No Platform Builder, no SDK install, no CD key." It's like the new emdash.
russdill··on CarPlay Is Additive
It doesn't negate the problems you are pointing out, but there are several devices that bridge the USB wireless gap. (Aawireless, etc)

The lesson here is that if a feature (at a minimum) does not have a associated test case, it is not actually a feature.
russdill··on Supreme Court upholds broad conception of birthright citizenship
I appreciate that you can look at the current political climate and imagine that such edge cases would be handled in a compassionate way.
russdill··on Supreme Court takes sledgehammer to federal regulatory structure
Because I read how each justice voted and several justices are advanced in age.
russdill··on Supreme Court upholds broad conception of birthright citizenship
Imagine being 18 and suddenly discovering you have to prove the citizenship status of a parent you've never met or else you'll be deported to a country you've never been to and who's language you don't speak
russdill··on Supreme Court takes sledgehammer to federal regulatory structure
The irony here is (3) is by far the closest to actually occurring as in practice, it doesn't require amending the constitution

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Intersta...

Of course, the SC could easily declare it unconstitutional....interpret any amendments as they see fit anyway. The decision on the 14th very nearly went the other way.

russdill··on Memory Safe Context Switching
mmap with MAP_FIXED has allowed you to do this for some time.
russdill··on Is it time for a new Embedded Linux build system?
Oi, more AI slop. After dealing with things that have external package management and yocto, I understand the pain. But integrating that into yocto is very doable and is a far better path forward.

And "I've been experiment with" seems to just mean "I've been vibe coding"

russdill··on The AirPods Effect
It would probably be the phone, but yes
russdill··on The AirPods Effect
Wouldn't it be cool if this situation could be detected and when you hit pause it would actually repeat them for you?

Basically, sometimes there commands take a long time. It's nice to have feedback that something is happening even if it's just effectively a blinking light.

There was a post crash fire, and that would be a lot of fuel burning.
russdill··on Adafruit files suit against Flux.ai over legal threats [pdf]
CISA advocates for responsible disclosure an links directly to documents telling you how to do so such as https://certcc.github.io/CERT-Guide-to-CVD/tutorials/cvd_in_...

That of you locate a vulnerability, you should contact the vendor and that "In terms of the CVD process, we have found that it is usually best to assume that any individual who has taken the time and effort to reach out to a vendor or a coordinator to report an issue is likely benevolent and sincerely wishes to reduce the risk posed by the vulnerability"

I get the weird feeling like you have a dog in this fight

russdill··on Adafruit files suit against Flux.ai over legal threats [pdf]
The "security authorities"? Who exactly is that? And what action are the expected to take?

Responsible disclosure is not gratuitous, it's not blackmail. It is a standard industry practice. And the entity you notify is the vendor.

russdill··on Cloning a Sennheiser BA2015 battery pack
Small nit, if you're doing anything with battery packs it's worth getting a spot welder. They are super cheap now and very easy to use.

I know nothing about your GPU, but it's probably at around 1V core voltage, so this is hundreds of amps.
