russ_poll··on Ask HN: How to find mentors?
You should try SharpestMinds - https://www.sharpestminds.com

Our mentors are mostly in the data science world, but many are senior software engineers.

Most of our mentees are 1st time job seekers (who appreciate our ISA model), but we did just launch more flexible payment options (e.g. pay by the hour) for folks like you!

Though you do have to pay, mentorships on SM often result in long-term relationships

russ_poll··on Donating my time to grow a VC-funded company: why I quit mentoring at Plato
Just want to add a friendly plug for SharpestMinds (YC W18),a mentorship platform built on income share agreements.

Mentees only pay if the land a job, and mentors get the majority of the ISA.

We are focused on data science (and other data roles) at the moment, but will expand to other markets soon.

russ_poll··on Ask HN: What are the best data science bootcamps?
If have a PhD and you're motivated enough to self-study, you probably don't need a bootcamp. There is likely a mentor on SharpestMinds who can help you break into the industry.

russ_poll··on Ask HN: How to Find a Mentor
It can very awkward! Try and find some folks online you can engage with and build a bit of a relationship first. Comment on their articles, tweets, or projects. If you reach out, reference specific things they've done that you are interested in and want to learn more about.

Part of what we're working on at SharpestMinds is reducing the friction to finding a mentor—https://www.sharpestminds.com/

We are currently focused on Data science mentorships, but we plan on expanding into the broader software space in the medium-term.

russ_poll··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2020)
SharpestMinds | Full Stack Developer | REMOTE (US and CANADA) | https://www.sharpestminds.com

SharpestMinds (YC-W18) is a mentorship platform for data scientists built around income-share agreements. We are seed stage and profitable.

Looking for a developer to join the CTO to help build and scale our platform. More details here: https://public.3.basecamp.com/p/gCuDuaVRKTbTKYdVz2yzg6wd

russ_poll··on The Lean Habit
Good points. I think automating habit tracking as much as possible can help avoid the desire to recontextualize.

Keeping measurement as objective as possible as well. e.g. How many sentences did I write today?

I think you are describing something like this. In which there is less reliance on self-reporting.

russ_poll··on The Lean Habit
Interesting, do you have an example? This sounds more intimidating than a daily log (the mvp can be a single line on if you accomplished a habit or not).
