runsonrum··on Adventures Making Vegemite
'Spoonfuls' doesn't help with the the impression that Vegemite needs to be portioned correctly. I would guess, most Americans are put off my Vegemite because their first notion is to grab a spoonful and shove it in their mouths with nothing else as they would with peanut butter. Of course it doesn't help thst, my guess from experience, is that most Australians would encourage the action while trying to hold back their laughter.

Disclosure: I am an American, I live in Australia, I like my Vegemite thin and my peanut butter thick :-)

Anyone looking for custom keyboard inspiration, look no further than https://kbd.news/.

I personally went for the Stront split keyboard. https://github.com/zzeneg/stront

runsonrum··on Why is everything so ugly?
I have seen something similar on TV to do with MSG. The room was split down the middle and I believe the participants were told half the room ate food with MSG and the other half without. They interviewed the participants after and the majority on the side with MSG had symptoms. The only problem was that no one had consumed MSG.

going off of memory from something I saw a decade ago

runsonrum··on Americans are spending billions on stuff they forget to cancel
I'm sure there are some out there that remember 10.. 15.. 20 CDs for 1¢ mail order.

My assumption was that they would bank on guilt or forgetfulness to keep the cash flowing in.

It has a portable version.. I'm sold!!
runsonrum··on Show HN: Tool to calculate how much milk is needed to make an amount of cheese
Paneer is brilliant. We usually make a batch if we find some milk on sale. It doesn't matter if the milk is homogenized.

This is probably the closest you will come.

Press Home, then Shift + End or vise versa.

runsonrum··on Kids, take your college more seriously
I still make mistakes decades later. I suppose the mistake will stop when the learning stops.
runsonrum··on 8-year-old boy upends 100 years of science regarding insects and plants
I'm not sure about this. I've played all the way though Grounded and didn't witness this behavior at all.

(Joking, of course)

runsonrum··on South Australia passes law to ban “disruptive” protests
Americans aren't anymore afraid of getting shot as Australians are of getting bitten by a venomous creature
runsonrum··on Microsoft deleted the public support forums for SwiftKey
the qoute is pretty extreme when you think about it. Don't get me wrong, as I can rationalize what is being said but on the other hand, it makes me want to go outside and enjoy some sunshine.

On another note, I have just installed two alternative keyboards today to play around with. OpenBoard and AnySoftKeyboard both with some nice features.

runsonrum··on Where Do Stolen Bikes Go?
I cant seem to find the article now but over here e-scooters were being tossed in the rivers. I can imagine the same could easily go for stolen bikes. Any one have any related articles of such nature?
runsonrum··on I don't want streaming music, I just want to stream my music
I also use Jellyfin along with an Android app call Synfonium. It has heaps of customisation and works with many media providers including Emby, Plex, Subsonic etc.

runsonrum··on Finding a former Australian prime minister’s passport number on Instagram (2020)
I believe that shame goes to Malcolm Turnbull (as Minister for Communications in Abbott Gov).

A Co-worker of mine actually sent a lengthy email to him explaining the limitations and all he got back in reply was that he disagreed.

Nice! I've been using AUDIO as my opening word which will give me four out of the five vowels.
runsonrum··on Monocle: A pocket sized open-source AR device
Exactly what I was thinking.. Have the feature offline but that would require storage I suppose. Also, the tagging in photo apps were another aspect I thought of. It is ok to tag in one instance but not another.
runsonrum··on Visual design rules you can safely follow
I believe near-black and near-white suppose to be used in conjunction with all the other suggestions made in the article, not just by itself. If you are looking at a document, I would say that should have different rules applied.
runsonrum··on A Maine community comes together to save a candlepin bowling tradition
This was my thoughts on why tenpin has taken over. The sense of some achievement without practice/dedication.

runsonrum··on Steering wheel falls off a new Tesla Y while driving on a highway
Although I do not have any articles to show, I know that from my personal experiences that "other" manufaturers will also not perform recalls when there are "generally known" issues.

It is my belief that they all have bean counters constantly looking at the stats and have some sort of recall threshold before anything is recalled.

I'm sure some companies are better than others though which also probably depends on the country.

runsonrum··on Guitar Effects Guidebook, Vol. 20 [pdf]
I found building the board was easier/quicker than laying out and fitting it into an enclosure.

Detailing the enclosure is a whole other level on top of that.

This is the source I use for most builds.

runsonrum··on The speed limit is America’s most broken law. Why can’t we fix it?
Certainly not just the USA. Also, unless you are travelling large distances or travelling at criminal speeds, you aren't really saving that much time by speeding.
