rumblerob··on You Don't Have Time to Read Books That Won't Change Your Life
I'm all for mind-blowing books, but this manic search for The Optimally Life-Changing Set of Books mostly just sounds like a great way to leach all the pleasure from reading.
rumblerob··on The joy of sets
I think the headline is a mild pun on the book The Joy of Sex: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Joy_of_Sex

Sets really only get mentioned once in passing; the article is more a general defense of the beauty of mathematics.

rumblerob··on Ask HN: Do you struggle to sleep after coding all day?
I've tried melatonin, cutting out alcohol, f.lux, not looking at a screen for an hour before bed, but the one thing that has had the most influence on my sleep (for the better) is cutting out caffeine after 4pm. (relevant study: http://www.aasmnet.org/jcsm/ViewAbstract.aspx?pid=29198)
rumblerob··on An Interview with Vincent Connare, creator of the Comic Sans font
I'll just leave this here. http://m.assetbar.com/achewood/uuad4vm7n
rumblerob··on The Atlas of the Real World (pics)
Fun to: guess what the map was representing, then scroll down to see if I was even close.
rumblerob··on Maps of the US made entirely of roads
<wants ultra-zoomed-in version>
rumblerob··on The Six-Lesson Schoolteacher
For the first few "lessons" I thought he was making an analogy to computers, with the students as individual bits.

Great, we're trained to be automatons.

rumblerob··on Would you steal a buck? How about a can of soda?
Even if cans were worth a dollar apiece, six dollars would be worth much more than a 6-pack. Cash is considerably more liquid -- you can't walk into J.C. Penney and trade a few 6-packs for a pair of slacks.
rumblerob··on How would you sell water?
Anyone else concerned with zellunit posting a link from zellunit.com? Or does that happen a lot around here? Legitimate question.
rumblerob··on New Languages Considered Harmful: "Learning new languages is a waste of time."
Right. It's strange how he has to back it up with (don't), too.

"Doing this is like doing a really bad thing, which by the way you shouldn't do."

rumblerob··on Why, oh WHY, do those #?@! nutheads use vi?
Someone should tell them that their "VI Gang Sign" is a pretty close analogue of the Shocker. (Not that that couldn't be a convincing argument to learn vi...)
