This works equally well on a PC with controllers/ gamepad, as attested by another family with 3 kids.

This game is just perfect.

> Lithium ion batteries have a much flatter voltage curve - they basically give a stable 1.2V until they run out of juice and then drop rapidly.

Did you mean Ni-MH (and possibly Ni-Cd earlier)?

Lithium based rechargeables are usually not in AA format and the voltage is closer to 3.6V.

Pretty sure it does. Given how nasty it tastes, I lose all my appetite when I try to use it as condiment.

I have zero background in this area, just following the rabbit hole -- there seems to be open access to ESA's Sentinel missions: https://scihub.copernicus.eu/

If you decide it's time to switch, consider switching to Keepass(-compatible software), with the DB file hosted via WebDAV (which you can either self-host or have hosted by a multitude of low-cost providers).

This will give you nice conflict resolution if accessing (modifying) the file from multiple machines.

There are clients available for all platforms. I use: Keepass (Windows), Macpass/ Keeweb/ Strongbox (MacOS), StrongBox (iPad) and Keepass2Android (Android, this one's fantastic!).

To add context: this is especially true for tasks that are likely to end in the device sleeping again. Two examples: user checking phone after hearing a notification sound or opening the laptop lid to check train departure time in the browser (then closing it again).

The faster the CPU deals with the task once the device is fully awake the shorter the time other power hungry parts of the system (like screen) need to be awake.

That's why slow phones, where the user needs to wait for their browser to finish loading the page will never be battery effective.

Can you give an example of this interoperability, please? Also -- what was the difference compared to Java that you noticed?

Is this the Eric of Pebble fame? I have a lot of warm feelings here, I actually still wear one. :)

While I prefer open communication protocols and clients, the reality seems to be the world has sadly moved on from this. Hopefully Nova will be of as high quality as Pebble was.

Good luck!

One commercial alternative I can recommend are AVM products, somewhat popular in Europe (AVM is German).

Good hardware, frequently with open alternatives.

I currently use Fritz 4040 with 1Gbps fiber, with original firmware, works like a charm.

Excellent wifi.

Since I am trying to not let my German become too rusty, what would you recommend as a German news source that is somewhat free of a political agenda, so not leaning to the right or to the left too much?

Ideally just news, or news in context but no unbalanced editorials, opinion pieces or political or social agenda. It is the last one I am struggling with finding.

Also no cheap drama, preferably being positive in general.

No popular science, too.

Not shallow.

rtomanek··on The EU's Link Tax Will Kill Open Access and Creative Commons News
To give an example of this: around 10 years ago I was co-running a website on a fairly narrow topic. One that most of the time is not relevant but every once in a while gets popular.

We happened to have some recent news stories related to the topic plus a very relevant, recent photo.

This was reused (without asking) by a major news outlet. The photo especially bumped their views numbers.

When we enquired about their use of our content, they said they were quoting and, after further prodding, that they could pay us a nominal fee.

Notice a problem with that?

We had to: 1. Be aware that our content is being used, 2. Be the side that is active in seeking renumeration, 3. Try to fight a major news organisation if we wanted a real cut of their ad revenue.

How do you do this if you are small?

Changing the balance and the burden is definitely a move to the right direction, in this case.

The big media and ad companies (Facebook, Google) are effectively making money off someone else's work. I could understand it when they were new and their market was still developing, today however they've grown too strong, I feel.

Not sure what you find funny about it?

And I don't think they do. Some people, sure. Every population has a bunch of people who would say things like that. Because they can, because they enjoy it, it likely makes them feel better, or so they think.

And there are people who enjoy listening to them and repeating what they say.
