rrouse··on One Month Rails (YC S13) Teaches How To Build Your Startup While Learning To Code
Being a developer that works with Rails daily, the first thing that jumped out at me was the code on the screen in the landing page image.

Rails hasn't used named_scope in a long time :)

I also found this bit to be just wrong

"I'm not even joking when I say this, but I think some of the resources out there make it intentionally hard for non-technical people to start learning. Maybe they want to keep this stuff a secret."

I don't believe for a second this exists. It's actually kind of offensive.

rrouse··on Tim Ferriss Needs A Startup To Invest In
Very true. Wasn't aware Shopify was started in Canada
rrouse··on Tim Ferriss Needs A Startup To Invest In
I believe the intent is that the business was founded in the US.
rrouse··on Minion drawn entirely using CSS
Doesn't seem like a joke on your part, but I'll take your word for it :).

Should be more clear in the future that you intended that to be a joke.

rrouse··on Minion drawn entirely using CSS
That's not pure CSS though. It's a jpeg.
rrouse··on The Open Bundle - Help uncopyright some game art assets
Actually, Nintendo does still sell copies of the original Mario (and other Mario stuff obviously), so I think you were downvoted for suggesting that big names would even consider something like this. It's not realistic.
rrouse··on Show HN: Send snail mail from the web
Prepaid cards are rejected?
rrouse··on Open Source Game Clones
Yeah. I'd probably list that as sporadic at best.
rrouse··on Open Source Game Clones
What are the parameters for "active development"?

The "Mario World" clone hasn't been touched in a year, but is listed as having active development.

Edit: Sorry.. was 1 year. The only more recent commit was a translation update 6 months ago

rrouse··on U.S. is the only developed country with no guaranteed paid vacation or holidays
You can ask, but you probably won't get it.

Some people don't have the luxury of choosing which job they take. Sometimes there's only one.

rrouse··on University of Reddit
There are two Excel courses and an Office 365 course mixed in with those. They should be moved to a "Software Application" section or something.
rrouse··on Mt. Gox Dwolla account frozen by DHS
Had no idea. Thanks for the heads up :)
rrouse··on Mt. Gox Dwolla account frozen by DHS
It's a play on the name of the site. Mt. Gox -> MtG: OX
rrouse··on Cloud 66 Security Compromise
They provided a service that would shell into your servers and install the software needed to run your app for you. It was meant to take the burden of writing chef/puppet scripts to build and scale your app environment
rrouse··on HN supports SPDY
"This means all of website visitors that can browser with SPDY, do browser using SPDY."

I like it

rrouse··on Rack Attack: Protection from abusive clients
That's pretty common practice so you don't get the IP of the machine your web server is on passed to the app instead of the user's ip.
rrouse··on Ghost: Just a Blogging Platform
Yeah. The "Ready? Try Ghost" button at the end is just an ad for their kickstarter project.

They should have just stated what it was up front.

rrouse··on Pirates playing a game dev simulator complain about piracy
My favorite are the people who pirate the game at release and then buy it when it's in the bargain bin for $5, as if that undoes the initial act of piracy: "See? I bought it!"
rrouse··on Being Really, Really, Ridiculously Good Looking
Yes.

I haven't seen one that large though. It usually looks like this: http://www.minusmanhattan.com/

rrouse··on Duetto compiles C++ applications to JavaScript
The claim is that they will have something usable in 6 months. I'll revisit it then and see if they make that promise :)
rrouse··on Decaf: Ruby in the Browser
If I remember correctly, an earlier version of Appcelerator's Titanium let you do that. But they killed it along the way, I believe.
rrouse··on .NET and Node.JS – Performance Comparison
Is there some tech law that states that when someone does a benchmark or comparison, it is almost always incorrect?

There should be.

rrouse··on Show HN: Help job seekers by letting them ask employees anonymous questions
Requiring the employees to attach their names to answers publicly is guaranteed to produce nothing but puff pieces.

Now if the answers were also anonymous, insomuch as that only the site knows who the employee is, you might end up with something usable.

rrouse··on $10,000 Raised for PyLadies at PyCon 2013
One thing affects the long term health of others around you. The other thing passes within a few moments.

They are not comparable.

rrouse··on EBay is about to increase its seller fees to 10%
I wouldn't be surprised if Shoply has a run in with Shopify in the future. Such similar names in the same space
rrouse··on Flat UI DMCA Takedown
Honestly, I have never seen or heard of anyone actually being sued for a false takedown notice. They happen all the time though.
rrouse··on How I ended up with Mac
Yeah, I've definitely never used it. I barely use any of the bluetooth stuff. That explains why I'v never run across any problems
rrouse··on How I ended up with Mac
What does A2DP stand for? I've likely never used the feature personally.
rrouse··on Ubuntu will switch from X window server to Mir
They are not talking about Ubuntu being closed. They are saying that Ubuntu would drift toward being more like Mac OS X, but be more open than Apple is with Mac OS X.
rrouse··on Ruby 2.0.0-rc2 is released
In theory that would work, but the effort to get all the dependencies working for each gem could be overwhelming.
