rrhd··on A Year of Tech Solidarity
Damore wasn't fired for political beliefs. That's a narrative spread by conservatives because it gets people riled up and lets then act like victims.

He was fired because he made statements that pissed off a fair number of his coworkers, and that were not in line with the companies views.

rrhd··on Don’t Tax Options and RSUs Upon Vesting
> low-risk way

Unless it goes bankrupt or has some other issue and you don't get paid or get fired.

I do not like this idea that startup employees aren't taking a risk. It encourages extremely one sided behavior.

rrhd··on YouTube says it will crack down on bizarre videos targeting children
The left likes to play victim about other things.

Conservatives love to push the idea that they were targeted purely for being conservative. Look at the reaction around Damore, for example. It's all about how conservatives are being oppressed, how you can't trust the media and tech because they hate conservatives.

rrhd··on YouTube says it will crack down on bizarre videos targeting children
Yeah, they want to go advertiser friendly and are being ridiculous about it.
rrhd··on YouTube says it will crack down on bizarre videos targeting children
The boundary for what gets demonitized are arbitrary and ridiculous. It's not just people dropping racial slurs or showing graphic violence. It's comedy channels, science channels, etc...

It's probably the only thing they can do, but it really is an awful way to treat people who should be your partners.

rrhd··on YouTube says it will crack down on bizarre videos targeting children
> it seems like the prevailing opinion is that YouTube is specifically targeting them based on political bias

That's because they like to be victims. It's all about the narrative.

If you look around you see this happening broadly. You see a lot of people concerned about it who don't even mention politics.

rrhd··on YouTube says it will crack down on bizarre videos targeting children
Youtube is built entirely on their content, but they have to censor themselves because otherwise youtube might screw them.
rrhd··on Uber loses court appeal against drivers' rights
Some starving to death might agree to work for me for just room and board.

It doesn't mean that I can target disadvantaged people for slavery. Uber needs to be held to proper standards.

rrhd··on Uber loses court appeal against drivers' rights
but not even close to all of these apply. Some big ones don't apply, e.g. pricing.
rrhd··on US government approves 'killer' mosquitoes to fight disease
Uh no, we don't have the power to live without nature. We have a lot of power but we need to be careful wielding it.
rrhd··on To Understand the Benefits of Tax Reform, Start by Understanding Apple's Taxes
> Many of the same people who get angry about the complex tax acrobatics used by big corporations also deride people like Rand Paul who have suggested a one page tax code.

because that's equally absurd and harmful.

rrhd··on To Understand the Benefits of Tax Reform, Start by Understanding Apple's Taxes
The alternative was nothing. A flawed system that leads to single player is still a victory.
rrhd··on To Understand the Benefits of Tax Reform, Start by Understanding Apple's Taxes
> This is why things like the "flat tax" or other simplification schemes are perennially floated, and also why they continue to get shot down

because a flat tax is a terrible idea.

which is why I hand them cash.
rrhd··on Bitcoin's Enormous Energy Costs May Prove to Be Its Biggest Risk
> I support the replacement of centralized hierarchical structures by distributed democratic structures

is bitcoin democratic? Isn't a "might makes right" system?

rrhd··on Bitcoin's Enormous Energy Costs May Prove to Be Its Biggest Risk
which is why people call it a bubble.
rrhd··on Bitcoin's Enormous Energy Costs May Prove to Be Its Biggest Risk
> It's all about immutability and finite money supply.

and why do we care about those?

Finite money supply, I get. I'm not I agree but I get it.

Why exactly do I need an immutable record that I paid some guy 10 bucks for a souvenir shirt at a concert? That I stopped and grabbed a coke at mcdonalds on the way home. That I went and bought some legal weed.

rrhd··on Bitcoin's Enormous Energy Costs May Prove to Be Its Biggest Risk
I actually dislike it mostly because it seems to be full of people like you. The community seems full of people I just don't want to associate with.
rrhd··on Can Ford Turn Itself into a Tech Company?
> Why would you be afraid of Trump voters?

Do you really want anyone to answer that question on HN?

and king county was 72% for Clinton, and Seattle was even more tilted that way.

rrhd··on Can Ford Turn Itself into a Tech Company?
No, because it got nothing to do with technology. They aren't cool enough to be a tech company.
rrhd··on Snap Inc. Third Quarter 2017 Results
Totally deserves billions for running a money losing operation thats getting eaten alive by the competition.
rrhd··on Snap Inc. Third Quarter 2017 Results
That alone is almost enough to make me want to see them crash and burn.
rrhd··on Snap Inc. Third Quarter 2017 Results
Have heard they are working hard on that, which makes this more surprising to me.
rrhd··on Legal pot in 100 days? New Jersey's next governor aims for national first
> his Tuesday win makes a Democrat-packed statehouse the only obstacle.

They aren't an obstacle. They wanted it done and Christie was the obstacle.

rrhd··on I bought a Switch from Nintendo and they threatened me with legal action
Does the UK not have consumer protections for delivery mistakes like this?

Should have had every right to tell them to get fucked and keep the switch the second they threatened him. They sent it to him, they can eat the loss. if they don't want to then they can politely offer to get you a return shipping label and apologize for the trouble.

This type of thing sounds about right for Nintendo.

rrhd··on Segwit2x Bitcoin Fork Suspended
> A censorship resistant digital cash

No, a way for a few people to get rich has been built.

rrhd··on Segwit2x Bitcoin Fork Suspended
> attempt for the suits to take bitcoin away from the engineer meritocracy.

because it's not totally controlled by suits already? Who do think is pouring money into mining this stuff.

rrhd··on Segwit2x Bitcoin Fork Suspended
So if I send a faked message from this guy saying "we changed out minds, fork now" it's not going to be an issue at all?

Ridiculous.

rrhd··on Harmony Link will no longer work after March 2018
the harmony works with my firetv as well. So now I need to figure out how to get some bluetooth protocol to work. I need a good remote for the raspberry pi. I'd like alexa integration too.

Now this just sounds like a project. sigh.
