Unlike websites, which are largely commoditized by big players, custom apps still fetch large sums. The pros in this space charge project-based (or at least per diem) rates, so you'll need to be good at estimating your work.
Of course, you should do a great job, dedicate regular time to learning, and explore things that interest you. These maxims are probably true for success in many other careers.
I suppose that charts like this could be useful to find new things to learn? But you certainly don't need to know all of this to get a job. Trying to tick every box on a learning list like this amounts to procrastinating the real tasks of finding work and writing code.
For those who haven't read it, the book is essentially about how computers work, from first principles up to integrated circuits and high-level programming languages. What makes the book special is the excellent writing: it has an engaging, conversational style, and is accessible to a non-technical audience.
If he's taking more time for himself (and hopefully, to write more books, as indicated in the post), that's awesome.
I’m an experienced developer currently seeking moonlighting work. I’ve written tons of code that runs in production, as both a startup employee and as an agency subcontractor. I follow best practices, use version control, write tests, and have extensive knowledge of the developer ecosystems surrounding the tools I use. I liken it to this quote of Marcus Aurelius:
"The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way."

For those unfamiliar with Go, the gofmt tool[1] converts indentation to tabs, standardizes brace positioning, etc. Most editors have a plugin that will automatically run the tool on save. An option for programmers using other languages is EditorConfig[2].
I wonder if Google plans to add a paid collection of premium fonts to its library – while I prefer open source fonts, I know a number of designers who use very specific fonts outside of what's currently available for free.
I've seen research suggesting the use of repeated low dosages (20-200mg per hour) throughout the morning and early afternoon for optimal performance. However, many of these studies have very small sample sizes and should be read cautiously.
I feel best with no caffeine at all.
That said, a routine of high-quality sleep, daily exercise, nutritious food, mindfulness meditation, and limited caffeine use will do far more for the average person – with substantially less risk.
I’m a disciplined programmer and technical consultant with years of experience. Code I’ve written runs in production on thousands of websites. I’m looking for new freelance clients and have about 10 hours per week of open availability.
I can help you with the following:
– Full-stack web engineering: I can improve any part of your web app, from deployment all the way up to the front-end. I really enjoy using Ruby, Rails, CoffeeScript, and SCSS. I’ve also written a minor amount of Clojure (which I loved) and enough vanilla JavaScript for one lifetime.
– Business problems: Sometimes finding the path to growth requires new perspectives.
I think new frameworks, languages, and technologies are awesome, but what’s even better is writing code right now that solves real-world business problems. If this sounds like a description of someone you’d like to work with, get in touch!
(Also, if you live in the OKC area: I’m always down for a round of disc golf.)

I’m a disciplined software engineer with a lot of front-end / UI experience. I’m looking for new moonlighting opportunities to fill up my schedule. I work full-time for a niche website provider: code I’ve written runs in production on thousands of client sites.
==Specialties:==
– CSS / Sass (I know CSS inside-out. I write enormous amounts of super-clean SCSS every month and can rapidly solve the trickiest, weirdest browser bugs. I can make Bootstrap bend over backwards or code a slick UI from scratch.)
– Responsive Design (I wrote the media queries for internal use at my company. I’m particularly good at making legacy websites work on mobile devices without compromising the integrity of the original design.)
– User Interfaces: (design, template code, custom CSS animations, UX / acceptance testing)
– JavaScript (fundamentals, frameworks, best practices, and the ecosystem / tooling)
Giant Keyword Blob: HTML5, CSS3, Sass, JavaScript, jQuery, Angular, Meteor, React, D3, Vue.js, Node.js, Gulp, Bower, PHP, Laravel, Ruby, Rails, Scala, Play Framework, Linux, Heroku, Git, TDD, CI, UI, UX, Design, Consulting, Disc Golf
My rates are reasonable as I live in a lower cost area of the United States.

It seems to me that human beings are often the very stressor needed to produce the unintended consequences.

Note that many "free" photos have CC licenses, so do your homework and make sure you follow any attribution rules. Looks like the OP's link has photos that are completely free of attribution requirements.
I was experiencing finger and wrist pain from typing and switched to a mechanical keyboard, which seems to have stopped the pain. Note that I also went to a tenkeyless layout in order to prevent a lot of motion when I move my right hand to use the mouse.
You'll want to do some research into switches, as not all mechanical keyboards are alike. The most popular variants are probably Cherry MX blues and browns. I prefer the clicky feel of the blues, but they are really loud.
shuf -n4 /usr/share/dict/words | sed "s/'s//g" | tr -d "\\n"; echo;I've also been reading Clojure Programming (http://www.clojurebook.com/) to reinforce concepts from the above.
I'm not convinced that Bitcoin ATMs will be able to get past these restrictions in countries with hyper-complex financial regulatory structures. However, if digital currency succeeds, paper money is sort of a backwards compatibility feature, since the majority will be using their phone (or future unknown digital device) to transfer money independent of a centralized banking network.
