robbintt··on Khan Academy integrates GPT-4 as every student’s customized tutor
This argument has a pretty standard counterargument: organizations can and should do more than 1 thing at a time. It's a non-profit so you're probably better off contributing your ideas to them.
robbintt··on People with ADHD claim Adderall is ‘different’ now
I have no doubt this is true after reading about the 8 years of shit quality heart medicine, metropolol, coming out of india, which so many older americans rely on and can cause heart damage if inconsistently taken. It's an outrage.

I've had hidden order since I was a kid but never read it. Not enough hours in a day. I should really do that one.

robbintt··on I changed my mind about nuclear waste
chat.openai.com claims it is true, albeit without specific sources:

Yes, there is a significant amount of data and research that supports the increasing competitiveness of renewable energy compared to oil. Here are a few examples:

The International Energy Agency (IEA) reported that in 2020, the average global cost of producing electricity from solar photovoltaic (PV) systems was lower than the cost of producing electricity from new fossil fuel plants, including coal and natural gas.

A recent study by the consultancy firm Lazard found that the cost of utility-scale solar and wind energy in the United States has fallen significantly in recent years, and is now cheaper than the cost of power generated from coal and natural gas in most regions of the country.

The US Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) reported that the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for wind and solar energy in the United States has fallen by more than 50% over the past decade, and is projected to continue to decline in the future.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the cost of solar PV and wind energy has declined by over 80% and 60%, respectively, since 2010. IRENA also found that renewable energy is now the cheapest source of new power generation in many countries, including Brazil, China, India, Mexico, and the United States.

These are just a few examples, but they demonstrate the trend of declining costs for renewable energy and increasing competitiveness with oil and other fossil fuels.

Can you share the details about renewables being cost competitive with oil?
robbintt··on Hermes: An open-source document management system
Isn't naming a project hermes somewhat of an inside joke at this point? Every company has a project named hermes.
robbintt··on The window trick of Las Vegas hotels
Certainly as much as a blog post. I think a better argument would be that it's not peer reviewed, but still weak.
robbintt··on Ask HN: Great text based games to play?
I still play from time to time. For the most part the only in game communities tend to just use the world props as a prop/sandbox for freeform roleplaying. The people who script level their characters tend to talk on discord and probably other chats. I don't think spontaneous in game interaction is much of a thing anymore.

robbintt··on Croatia to switch to euro, enter passport-free Schengen zone
On the other hand, Croatians can freely work anywhere in the Schengen area, right? And vice versa to bring jobs to Croatia?
robbintt··on Croatia to switch to euro, enter passport-free Schengen zone
I don't know anything about this stuff, either. Why does it work in the US to have the midwest on the same currency as California?
robbintt··on Money, money, money (and investing) (2015)
Why 2%? The classic number for safe withdrawal rate is 4%, and that's without doing any modulating in the bad years. 3% seems good to me.
robbintt··on ChatGPT is a ‘code red’ for Google’s search business
This is a threat to google because "how people access information" can shift away from web search. The fundamental "how" can shift under google.

All information has errors, tolerances, gets reprocessed, etc.

ChatGPT being wrong sometimes or a great bullshitter absolutely does not matter.

It is still 2 factor, breaching the password manager is a corner case that you can decide to cover or not. It seems like for critical accounts you should NOT. For derived accounts, it should be better than just a password.

It might slow the pace at which he tries to take over the private resources of the island of Kauai, Hawaii from the billionaires before him but I doubt it.

I think it's interesting how pedestrian Oprah, Zuck, and Larry Ellison are, obsessing over a place Elvis visited for pork barbecue parties while demonstrating 0 understanding of local people and their needs.

It's incredibly embarrassing for humanity.
