rmac··on Anti-diarrhoea drug drives cancer cells to cell death
Thanks for mentioning this. Here is the video: https://youtu.be/ZeLsJ8xtuGU

Where he reviews a paper that shows in 2 males, loperamide lead to cardiac arrhythmia and death. The doses they took arent clear but it's in the heroic range. (50x-100x 'normal')

If you're desperate to get off opiates and unwilling to do suboxone or methadone, I'm not sure a doctor, if you can afford one, would even mention loperamide.

rmac··on Anti-diarrhoea drug drives cancer cells to cell death
It was a long time ago; I think I mixed in miralax. I don't remember any gut issues.

rmac··on Anti-diarrhoea drug drives cancer cells to cell death
I started an opiate taper at 40mg loperamide a day and while I didn't feel euphoria it definitely had a strange, almost dissociative high. On other forums people report therapeutic effects up in the 100mg range, but ymmv
rmac··on Anti-diarrhoea drug drives cancer cells to cell death
Loperamide (imodium-ad in USA) is a godsend for tapering off opiates. It prevents all withdrawal symptoms (aside from actually getting high).
rmac··on The Zodiac Killer's most uncrackable cipher has, at last, been solved
The code breakers said that discovering Z340 was three sections was "luck" but it's likely they were informed by previous zodiac antics:

"On July 31, 1969, Zodiac sent his first cipher: the famous three-part cipher Z408. The Z408 was separated into three different parts..."

rmac··on The mythical “fast” web page
What about encrypting every users account info, and then when a GET comes in the server sends over everyones data that has ever logged on from that IP address? The client would then decrypt their own data. If compressed, then encrypted it could be small enough? Probably too complex tho...
rmac··on The mythical “fast” web page
Is there a way to securely pre-fetch data from the db? If I have a valid cookie why is my account snapshot not getting fetched when I hit Citibank.com?

If I mark "remember my username", and I hit citibank.com, can't the banking back end start fetching my account snapshot when my browser hits / and then send over that data as soon as I authenticate?

I'm out of the loop so maybe this is already done or too complicated?

rmac··on Bitcoin still makes no sense
There are no new inventions in finance. Be it tulips, joint stock enterprises, junk bonds, or good ol debt, it's all been done before and will all come crashing down yet again, taking the speculative euphoria with it.

rmac··on A Google Cloud support engineer solves a tough DNS case
" I find that 2147481343 seems to do the trick. This number doesn't make any sense to me. I suggest the customer try this number. The customer replies back: it works with google.com, but it does not work with other domains."

My extrapolation: I find a potential fix: don't test it, don't understand it, and send it to customer.

How is this acceptable?

rmac··on Google Meet premium video meetings–free for everyone
a few days ago I was in a zoom meeting with 996 people. The mac client was sluggish on my 2017 core m3 macbook but the audio (and video when scrolling around gallery view) never lagged or went tin-y.

rmac··on FCC planning to open up 1200 MHz of spectrum for unlicensed / Wi-Fi usage [pdf]

rmac··on Startup Ideas 2020
"I’ve yet to see anyone properly tackle the more rudimentary, “boring” and lucrative approach: an on-prem search appliance, similar to GSE, that indexes internal intranet, wikis as well as email."

Is there a reason to believe this is something enterprises actually want? Was GSE too early?

The Google speech API supports Speaker Diarization and Android supports voice unlock so they are getting to a point where they are able to ID voices and should be able to tell which voice has consented to being recorded.
rmac··on Google’s Fuchsia OS on the Pixelbook
Given the amount of activity in porting Chromium to Fuchsia [x], my bet is on Fuchsia eclipsing Chromeos. A possible reason for this would be to get out from under the linux kernel; Fuchsia/Zircon enables google to make changes quickly.

rmac··on The Irrationality of Alcoholics Anonymous (2015)
The prescription is always abstinence, and almost universally any suggestion that moderate drinking might be possible for some is met with scorn and anxiety.

My understanding is abstinence programs are for those that have tried to moderate and cannot.

To quote AA:

Ch. 3 More About Alcoholism... For those who are unable to drink moderately the question is how to stop altogether.

Ch. 3 More About Alcoholism... We do not like to pronounce any individual as alcoholic, but you can quickly diagnose yourself, step over to the nearest barroom and try some controlled drinking. Try to drink and stop abruptly. Try it more than once. It will not take long for you to decide, if you are honest with yourself about it. It may be worth a bad case of jitters if you get a full knowledge of your condition.

It also seems strange to suggest naltrexone as an alternative to aa.

From living sober:

AA. members and many of their physicians have described situations in which depressed patients have been told by AAs to throw away the pills, only to have depression return with all its difficulties, sometimes resulting in suicide. We have heard, too, from schizophrenics, manic depressives, epileptics, and others requiring medication that well-meaning AA friends often discourage them from taking prescribed medication. Unfortunately, by following a layman's advice, the sufferers find that their conditions can return with all their previous intensity. On top of that, they feel guilty because they are convinced that "AA is against pills." It becomes clear that just as it is wrong to enable or support any alcoholic to become re-addicted to any drug, it's equally wrong to deprive any alcoholic of medication which can alleviate or control other disabling physical and/or emotional problems.

I'm having a hard time finding where it's suggested in their literature that salvation comes from sobriety?

However, I strongly suggest, as do you, for those suffering to seek out help and consider all options.

one painfully obvious missing feature: voice capture.

It seems to so natural to integrate google assistant into this thing. I wonder when 'Alexa' for meetings will be good enough to commercialize.

rmac··on Fentanyl, a stealth killer
In my experience doing a heroic amount of opioids was enough to not care, uppers mixed in as anti-nod.

I didn't understand why people mixed in benzos, unless to curb withdrawals.

rmac··on Fentanyl, a stealth killer
I wonder why mixing cns depressants is so common? Is it because opioids are so expensive / hard to get, and benzos/alcohol easier to get and cheaper? Or is it simply a better feeling mixing them...
