risfriend··on Chandrayaan-3 Soft-landing [video]
Congratulations! Huge feat.
risfriend··on Bookwyrm – A federated social network for reading books
This exists in some form here already - https://www.reddit.com/r/books/
risfriend··on Steve Wozniak used to tip from printed sheets of $2 bills
This seems like a plausible thing to do if you run out of change to tip, banks may not easily give out bundles of $2 in cash simply because of shortage and found this another way to grab lot of $2 notes.
risfriend··on Russian banks rush to switch to Chinese card system
Russia for its survival will have to find one way or other to survive the visa mc shutdown, but the US businesses will also be losers in the long run.
risfriend··on Our fridge just emailed us to say we opened its door too many times
I had a small kids party at my home yesterday and it would've easily been opened a total of 50 times or more by various people.
risfriend··on Apple explicitly asks employees to merge their personal and work accounts
Absolutely agree with separating phones, recently my company mandated MDM policy on phones, and it really messed my phone, there are apps which are separated with work profile but there are very few such apps, what about other apps? Learnt the importance of creating a hard boundary the hard way.
risfriend··on It looks like a product but is secretly a subscription
Wow, thanks a lot, didn't know this. I've been forced to buy cartridges as I run out of ink way every few months, don't think the black HP cartridges today even last the promised 500 pages, they can literally configure it to their whim.
risfriend··on India may build new coal plants due to low cost despite climate change
While US is reducing the coal usage at a rapid rate, the current absolute value of coal usage for power in US is similar to that of India as US generates almost 4 times the power of India

risfriend··on Write code. Not too much. Mostly functions.
From where I am, there are abstractions coded for APIs in the layers of - topmost API layer, then Business logic and the 3rd DAO layer. Even though there is only one implementation everytime of these layers, this structuring alone has helped maintaining the code so much easier, as everyone even across teams goes by this structure while defining any API. Can't even imagine just coding functions in large codebases without a pre-defined structure, it can become brittle over time.
risfriend··on There are more streaming choices than ever – why are prices going up?
India, did actually implement a regulation to let users pay for exactly what they want to see to give the users an option other than the bundles provided by carriers/aggregators. This was implemented from Feb, 2019 https://www.indiatoday.in/technology/news/story/watching-tv-...

Also, from March of this year the price per channel was capped and even the carriage fee has been capped to what the government agency deemed suitable - https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/telecom/teleco...

Though this can end up making the business for some cable TV companies unsustainable, especially on the lower end of the spectrum - some of which were already in losses.

risfriend··on Google Fi Unlimited Plan
Wow, being in India this cost is enterprise level. Its super costly. You can get ~42 GB (1.4 GB per day limit) data for around 400 INR, thats 6 USD per month.
risfriend··on Sequel Pro – Open source macOS native MySQL GUI client
Have been using this one for years. A rare for a mac only app being leaps better than non-mac apps for similar use.
