It seems to be a Tandy 1000 RSX which supports Windows 3.1

Original photo is from here, which has Windows 3.1 running: http://www.oldskool.org/guides/tvdog/RLRLX.html

riq_··on Brave disables Chromium FLoC features
care to explain what is Brave and what is FLoC?
riq_··on CircuitPython: Programming Hardware in Python
from a programming point of view, all are the same. But if you want to introduce your kid to play with sensors and other stuff, I'd get Playground Blefruit[1]

riq_··on China wants to build an open source ecosystem to rival GitHub
perhaps just cloning gitlab?
riq_··on Mark Zuckerberg Stoked Washington’s Fears About TikTok
> "fairness"

The world is more complex than that. China is not "bad" because it is not a democracy. China is "bad" because it competes with the USA.

There are other countries that are not a democracy an that are allies with the USA, like Saudi Arabia. But they are "good", apparently.

And also, just remember that the USA only supports the democracies that are aligned with the way of thinking. Just do a bit of research and see what happened to South America in the 70s' and 80's... and more recently to Bolivia.

Also, most of the products that you use today were built, at least in part, in China.

riq_··on Epic direct payment on mobile
From the announcement, V-Bucks are 20% cheaper (... when purchased from epicstore I guess...).

So, you use your browser, login to epicstore with your account, purchase v-bucks at 20% discount and you use those v-bucks in all Epic Games regardless the platform.

riq_··on Apple Moves Mac Pro Production to China
> Not only is China ripping off IP but companies like Apple who try to be "woke" have no buisness advocating for equality at home while doing buisness with a nation that has imprisoned thousands of religious minorities in re-education camps.

First of all: You are not wrong.

But similar things can be said about USA. USA steals a lot of stuff too. But of course the American press won't tell you about that. Or if they mention it, they will put phrase it like "America liberated the population of Irak (insert any country here) from the dictarship".

But the press on other countries could say different things about the USA:

"Not only is USA has a long history of creating coup-d'etat in foreign countries (e.g: South America), and installing governments that favor their policy and killing thousands of innocent people to achieve that. But also is known to create false evidence to invade countries to steal their oil and killing thousands of innocent people, again. And recently it has been proved that the USA spied on their allies to..."

I don't want to put in a way that the USA is "bad" or China "good", or vice-versa.

But the important thing here is: critical thinking. Don't buy what the press tells you.

Is China "bad" ? Who is telling you that China is "bad" ? Does the person that is telling you that China is "bad" gain something from it? Is that person any better than China?

Companies are driven to make money. Otherwise they would be an NGO, and not a company.

riq_··on Apple Hires Key Chip Designer From ARM as Own Efforts Ramp Up
Perhaps what Apple wants is to keep improving their iPhone / iPads with better ARM processors (from where the make most of the money). Just remember that they don't use the regular "off-the-shelf" ARM processor. By having even better ARM processors, they can keep having and edge over the competition.

One day, they might switch Mac to ARM. But I don't see that in the short term.

riq_··on A deep dive into the world of DOS viruses [video]
nice video, I liked it. But the I wouldn't call it "deep dive". In any case, it is just a quick overview.

by "deep dive" I would expect in detail infecting techniques (.com is mentioned, but MBR is missing), stealth techniques (how virus by passed debuggers and anti-virus), techniques used by antivirus (besides basic pattern matching).

> Considering that the leader of the free world

nit: I think you are referring to Trump, the president of the USA. But I doubt he is the "leader of the free world", whatever that means.

riq_··on A data-destroy vulnerability for the IBM PCjr
Thanks, yeah, I like it.
riq_··on A data-destroy vulnerability for the IBM PCjr
yeah, although the name is: "double-the-joy-will-get-you-destroyed"
riq_··on Libui: GUI library in C
I think this is useful when you need simple dialogs. For example if you want to display a license agreement, or similar. It is overkill to bundle Qt libs to display simple dialogs.

But if you want a complex and powerful UI toolkit (let's say you want to create an editor), you need a toolkit like Qt. You can't do that with just wrappers to native toolkits. You will only get the greatest common divisor.

riq_··on Apple Letter on iPhone Security Draws Muted Tech Industry Response
What Apple is doing is protecting its business model. It is a good thing what Apple is doing, but they are doing it only because it is aligned with its business model. Apple is a for-profit organization. Same as Google. Same as Facebook.
riq_··on Dropbox May Not Be LeBron James, but Is Still in the Game
> but saying DropBox is better because iCloud doesn't even exist on Linux make no sense.

makes sense for me. I don't use iCloud because of that. It doesn't have the features that I need. Although "Better" is subjective. Dropbox might not be better for you, but it "makes sense" for some people

Nice concept, I want something like that... but it says "shipping Feb 2016"... lot of things can happen during these 9 months.
riq_··on Xiaomi laptop leaked online with specs
I've been using a Xiaomi M4 (Android phone) for the last months. So far so good. I think Xiaomi is creating attractive products at a low price point (don't know if they are infringing IPs though). I posted more detailed information about my Xiaomi experience here: http://towp8.com/2014/12/24/switching-from-ios-to-android-my...
riq_··on Apple’s iOS7 Native JavaScript Bridge
Shameless plug here: In case you need to use JS on older iOS versions, I created JavaScript bridge for Objective-C (and C).

It is a command line tool that parses Objective-C header files (using llvm) and generates the needed intermediate "bridge" files. Internally it uses the SpiderMonkey VM (instead of JavaScript Core) The source code and the documentation can be found here: https://github.com/ricardoquesada/jsbindings
