riiii··on Purelymail: Cheap, no-nonsense email
He could get a cat and technically not be lying.

riiii··on You probably don't need query builders
You don't need them until you do. And when you do, you might first think that you can just hack your way around this minor inconvenience.

Then you'll eventually learn why the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

riiii··on Zork: The Great Inner Workings (2020)
One thing I'd like to see AI used for: draw the Zork scenery based on the in-game text description.
riiii··on 47% of 160 Top Selling Protein Powders Tested Exceed P65 Limit for Toxic Metals [pdf]
Oh well, enjoy your lead consumption anyways.
riiii··on Servo vs. steppers: Speed, Torque and Accuracy [video]
Published 1h ago and already on HN. Not surprised, Matthias Wandel is always worth a watch!
riiii··on 47% of 160 Top Selling Protein Powders Tested Exceed P65 Limit for Toxic Metals [pdf]
The PR guys have arrived.
riiii··on Let's Quit X
Nah, far-right: nazi/maga movement.
riiii··on Stop Trying to Schedule a Call with Me
> And now, I’m stuck on your mailing list forever.

Companies, don't do this. After I've attempted unsubscription, I flag every single email from you as spam.

riiii··on Meta scrapped factcheckers because systems were 'too complex'
Things aren't going back normal after four years. There won't be normal elections in four years. I hope I'm wrong.
riiii··on Microsoft disguises Bing as Google to fool inattentive searchers
Are you from the PR Disaster Mitigation Department trying to find justification for this?
riiii··on Microsoft disguises Bing as Google to fool inattentive searchers
That's not because Bing is good. It's because Google has been enshittified.
riiii··on Microsoft disguises Bing as Google to fool inattentive searchers
"Fuck Microsoft! Fuck!"

-- Dr. Adrian Mallard

riiii··on We know where your car is
GPS car data was used to find a crossbow killer in the UK few years ago.

The killer torched the car but the car had already uploaded GPS and black box data.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-65985341

I recommend the referenced podcast there, the whole story is crazy.

riiii··on Why Linux is not ready for the desktop, the final edition
> When you start installing software and drivers, the OS gets totalled, sooner or later.

My experience with Windows, exactly.

riiii··on Toronto man creates tiny mobile homes to help unhoused people escape the cold
Materials have gone up. But there are other costs involved than just raw materials. Transport, bought expert services (electrician, etc), tool wear, ...

He also has to live and cover unexpected costs.

riiii··on Show HN: I made a web app to bring children's drawings to life
Make Christmas great again!
riiii··on macOS menu bar app that shows how full the ISS urine tank is in real time
Is there a separate tank for solid excrement? Are we missing an opportunity for a shit stream?

How is that even released from ISS?

riiii··on Ask HN: What should I do with meet.hn?
> Personally I learned to interact with people in a nice way

Good for you. I think some people can't learn that, at least without some sort of a therapy.

I friend of mine really struggles with filtering what he says to other people. He doesn't want to be like that I think, at least he has regrets of how he's behaved. But it doesn't really improve.

riiii··on Show HN: I designed an espresso machine and coffee grinder
I appreciate the effort you've put in. But I'd like to see a non marketing video of it in operation.
riiii··on Willow, Our Quantum Chip
They'll be banned for public use in the next 2-3 years. I'm not advocating for the ban, just saying it'll happen.
riiii··on "Hetzner decided to cancel our account and terminate all servers"
Adverse inferance. The company thinks it's better for them to keep quiet than to tell their side. That speaks volumes.
riiii··on Ask HN: What are the best programmable holiday lights?
I didn't know you had Internet access up in the mountain, Mr Grinch.
riiii··on UnitedHealth's Effort to Deny Coverage for a Patient's Care (2023)
Yep. In today's world where everything is polarized to the extreme this seems to be unifying people. I don't think anyone had it on their bingo cards for 2024.
riiii··on Wuhan lab samples hold no close relatives to virus behind Covid
Neither do I, but it's equally pointless to state that.
riiii··on Facebook's Little Red Book
> political power grows out of the barrel of a gun

They say you shouldn't bring a knife to a gunfight. But this is the only time a flag might be useful in a gunfight.

riiii··on Facebook's Little Red Book
> We were going to change the world

Ah, the importance of being specific.

If you want to change your neighbourhood, you could start every morning by sweeping the pavement. Or you could leave a random dog turd. Both will accomplish your stated goal.

riiii··on President Biden pardons his son Hunter Biden
You ain't seen nothing yet.
riiii··on President Biden pardons his son Hunter Biden
That's bad. I have to say though that I'm more bothered that the guy taking over has said he wants generals like Hitler had.
riiii··on UK counter-terrorism unit demands Steam withdraw controversial shooter from sale
I think the terrorist organisation Hamas shouldn't have a platform anywhere.
riiii··on UK counter-terrorism unit demands Steam withdraw controversial shooter from sale
The UK ban is taking care of UK interestst. I don't think anyone would be surprised if Iraq would request a ban on BO6 in Iraq.
