richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Best Git workflow for small teams
The link is down. Here is the cache version https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Vk2On-...
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Help me pick out a weekend project.
A CLI to manage Apache VirtualHosts inside Vagrant. I would use it.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: How does a beginner get started with web development in 2016?
Hi, I am a student but with a bit more experience with Web development. What I did to improve my skills was to progressively build my own "project structure". And as I learn new concepts, I refactor my code to include better concepts/libraries. It was in PHP.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: 12 hours flight. Best options for offline coding?
In that case, I would code something to help me automate my computer.

richerlariviere··on Moral Machine
This is quite tricky. You can kill people in order to save your life, but in my opinion, it would haunt me for all my life and I would suffer psychologically from that. I think if you accept to drive a self-driving car, you assume all the risk it can cause to you. If such a moral system would exist, I must have the choice to configure it. Because morale, I think, is cultural. There is no correct answer.

>Growing a business is exciting. We'd like to make it just a little less exciting for you.

The second sentence sounds weird for me. Maybe I didn't understand because I don't speak English natively and I missed some kind of humor.

richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Going to SF next week. Any good conferences there?
Thanks for you replies!
richerlariviere··on Show HN: 356byte HTML, CSS and JS Editor
This is cool but it uses eval() which allow execution of malicious javascript code.

Why explaining something misunderstood by something even more mysterious?
richerlariviere··on My Garbage Cat Wakes Me Up at 3AM Every Day (2015)
Really funny to play. I'd like to have a layer of complexity maybe nightmare monsters.

This is pretty clever. I think you should add this to the big list of naugthy strings

https://github.com/minimaxir/big-list-of-naughty-strings

richerlariviere··on Ask HN: What happens to your code if you get hit by a truck?
If your code is well-documented I guess it will be easier to deal with it. If you can't understand code you have written 6 months ago, it won't be easy for other programmers. All black magic code should be clearly indicated.
richerlariviere··on Left-pad as a service
This is why I love Hacker News
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Does anybody still use Siri?
I use Siri each time I want to set my alarm clock. Other functionalities are faster using the standard way.
richerlariviere··on Add Reactions to Pull Requests, Issues, and Comments
I think it is definitely the end of +1 era, folks! Thanks Github to listen to the community feature requests. You should allow more icons like Slack is doing currently.
richerlariviere··on If you're alive in 30 years you might be in 1000 years too
How can you regulate population with people living half a millennium? The earth won't be able to deal with that unless we apply population control which is... pretty unethical.
richerlariviere··on Beginning Game Programming in C++
That's a classic one. I used to refer to this website for SDL related projects.
richerlariviere··on Slack will soon start testing voice and video chat
Communication is not productivity. That's it. It can helps but it is not the same scope.
richerlariviere··on Anti-Adblock Killer
As an ad company, I Will make an anti-anti-Adblock killer. This is becoming ridiculous.
richerlariviere··on Show HN: What parts of your code are not original
We could extrapolate this to the music field also.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: I think I need serious help for self development. Any advice?
You should try yoga. It will help you to lower your stress level and you will be able to think about what comes next. Sometimes the solution is to step back. It worked for me.
richerlariviere··on Ask HN: Is it ethical to create an open source clone of proprietary software?
It depends of the license.
richerlariviere··on [dead]
Should be crashwebkitbasedbrowsers.com. Chrome didn't like that.
richerlariviere··on Why I quit my dream job at Ubisoft
> The team spirit was sooo good! Our motto was “on est crinqués!”, which more or less translates to “we’re so hyped!”. During our play sessions, we were so excited we were screaming and shouting all over the place. I think it bothered colleagues working next to us, but hell, we had so much fun. I didn’t feel too guilty.

Wow. IMO A dream job is a balance between having fun like you described and working on complex problems. I love how you have written this paragraph.

richerlariviere··on Brendan is back to save the Web
Generally the sites who have more ads than contents usually have poor content (buzzy-clickbaity websites). In my opinion and AFAIK we can't change the business model of the web but each user can decide which site to go in order to seek high-quality content (I usually see less intrusive ads in those sites). Things are not as bad as we would think.
richerlariviere··on Reduce Your Bundle.js File Size by Doing This One Thing
Title should be "using relative paths reduce your bundle.js file size". It sounds like a clickbait. But yeah this is a nice and pertinent article.
richerlariviere··on In Defense of Learning Code the Hard Way
The moment I understood pointers, It felt like you discovered an entire world, tied by logic, pure as crystal. Learning C++ helped me a lot to understand oriented object programming and manual memory managing. Now, I am a web developer doing some JavaScript.

I think the weakest point of JavaScript online programming courses is the lack of algorithms. You end up to do a lot of DOM manipulations, apply some CSS and that's it you are ready to get a job. But you don't really know how to translate your mental concepts into code.
