riazrizvi··on AI needs $6T in annual revenue to justify data centre boom
Feels right and sustainable, ballpark.
riazrizvi··on Using LLMs to trace alchemical knowledge and decode 17th century letters
This is a strong application of LLMs IMO. They are idea machines. Historical ways of thinking give us different paths to explore the world through.
riazrizvi··on Attention is all you have
Good to know.
riazrizvi··on Attention is all you have
As an alternative to Gmail can I recommend Hotmail? I recently created an account and a nice feature is that all new email goes into the Junk folder by default. It was obviously designed by a misanthropic hermit, but the benefit is that your emails drop to almost zero. It's a bit of a bummer if you had a job opportunity or a friend tries to contact you, but on the other hand, fewer distractions.

Crazy times.

riazrizvi··on What Sun got wrong
Very expensive and valuable information to come by, thanks for sharing.
riazrizvi··on ChatGPT now knows what you do on other websites via ad collector
I noticed that. I'm getting ads now based on conversations. I'm okay with it. I don't mind relevant ads.
riazrizvi··on Why is Google still serving dodgy ads?
Because money?

Ask me another.

riazrizvi··on >10x More Efficient Pretraining
Very helpful thanks.
riazrizvi··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
I don't get this. Use cash like me and a bunch of us if you don't want to play the game. Or a debit card. Otherwise it's just an extra game. Extra games are choice. Choice is good.
riazrizvi··on Large language models develop novel social biases through adaptive exploration
No. It's a shorthand for contextual bias. The context is the tiny window of the statistic. When it's applied to a real world situation, ppl promote the 'unbiasedness' into a real situation that isn't constrained by it.

Bias cannot be avoided in any information, because it's always a position of what is relevant and in what presented order. The only unbiased thing is nature itself in its immediate instantaneous totality.

riazrizvi··on Large language models develop novel social biases through adaptive exploration
There is no position lacking bias. The question of bias against me is a political position not an epistemological problem that can be eliminated. I see authors that are unaware of things like context and relativity.

When ppl say there is an absolute truth that we need to stick to, they are slipping in a totalitarian political position and calling it truth. It runs against the whole premise of nature and life, which has rested for 4 billion years on: Alternative competing positions, seeing which one works best.

riazrizvi··on Large language models develop novel social biases through adaptive exploration
I stopped at the daft-to-me premise:

> As large language models (LLMs) are adopted into frameworks that grant them the capacity to make real decisions, it is increasingly important to ensure that they are unbiased

riazrizvi··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
Come on. Things still break. Technology isn't _that_ mature.
riazrizvi··on Any Human Ever – One life, drawn at random from all who have ever lived
Okay step away from the waving hands and read the source material.
riazrizvi··on ChatGPT Is Throwing 404
Really? It spins up too many reasoners on the back-end and triggers a safeguard? Fascinating.
riazrizvi··on ChatGPT Is Throwing 404
Phew. It wasn't because of something I said. Lots of ppl are impacted.
riazrizvi··on 'Mad honey' that can stop your heart is being sold online
Fascinating. So it seems to have been used for parasitic and fungal skin treatments, angina, and to induce miscarriage. With no doubt a very narrow band of error.
riazrizvi··on 'Mad honey' that can stop your heart is being sold online
Florida's manchineel tree (with the tiny apples) is the OG wood you don't burn because it blinds you.
riazrizvi··on The safest job from AI may be writing
The safest jobs are the ones that don't feed a training algorithm with data, any work that remains more of a mystery.
riazrizvi··on The Internet Is Kind of a Predatory Cesspit Now
Nah. It's still the output of multiple ppl merged into one. There's no governing force there. Just human nature, across the world, more captured, more visible than ever before.
riazrizvi··on Small Models Have Arrived
These are great examples of converting the snippets into imaginary ppl. Thanks.
riazrizvi··on Small Models Have Arrived
I think you're just observing ppl in one of these rare instances where enough of them come together because they are motivated. 'Toxic' is the clamoring sound of a crowded room where what gets through to your ears are just the most annoying snippets of incomplete conversations. I dare you to hang out with any actual people here, understand their viewpoint and listen to what they actually have to say in person, within the context of watching them do it.
riazrizvi··on Small Models Have Arrived
I think there's something subtle about language and ambiguity that means they aren't designed to become superintelligent autonomous machines. They're value is as information repositories that actual intelligent autonomous machines (us) mine and string together.
riazrizvi··on FDA authorizes first wearable device that monitors ketone and blood sugar levels
So she was merely ahead of her time.
riazrizvi··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
For you maybe. I love the color of my turds.
riazrizvi··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
The Zune failed vs the iPod because of marketing? Okay.
riazrizvi··on There's no reason for software to be slow anymore
Not paying for premium? That's still a good reason. Even solo SaaS builders have to pay the rent.
riazrizvi··on Norway Should Buy OpenAI
FYI "Silicon Valley" is a bunch of of different ppl. Quite a few. Operating in some totally separate day-to-day environments. Flippant comments rise to top because they are clickbait.
riazrizvi··on How art invented humanity
You've lost the plot old chap. Time to go outside and smell the fresh air, get some exercise, talk to a human person.
