rgreekguy··on Steam Machine launches today
A PlayStation 5 also requires you now to be online every so often (30 days?) for even your single player games.
rgreekguy··on Chatbots put through psychotherapy report trauma and abuse
I cannot believe this for a moment. ChatGPT really does not let you call it anything close to names. It is ridiculous actually. Reddit is slightly more lenient than ChatGPT.
rgreekguy··on ICE and CBP cannot be sued under Bivens nor officers charged criminally
Most peace-loving leftist?
rgreekguy··on Tell HN: Get a dying iPhone 12 mini in 2026
The latest version of iOS has decreased battery life on phones from 2024.
rgreekguy··on Can I start using Wayland in 2026?
Same for Xorg. And Wayland, really. No idea how people get so many issues. Just change distro, or DE, in the end of the day, it doesn't take long. Small changes make small differences.
rgreekguy··on ACM Is Now Open Access
I don't know, not everyone has adopted open access, indeed. Nor do they necessarily plan to. But I don't work there anymore, thankfully.
rgreekguy··on ACM Is Now Open Access
They are both hosted on the same platform, which is owned by John Wiley & Sons.
rgreekguy··on Man killed his mother 'after consulting an AI chatbot'
Surely the "AI chatbot" will be sued, he won't go to jail.
rgreekguy··on Million dollar idea? Imagine TikTok but everytime you scroll it's a new meme
So, like a modern 9gag?
rgreekguy··on I Exposed Minnesota's Billion Dollar Fraud Scandal [video]
Spoiler alert: It does not seem to be talking about Rekieta to any degree.
rgreekguy··on 2026 Apple introducing more ads to increase opportunity in search results
I see many ads and irrelevant results in the App Store regardless. So much so, that at some point said "why don't I turn on personalised ads, since I am seeing all this trash anyway", and it turned out it was already on. So I cannot really imagine how this will change things.
rgreekguy··on FVWM-95 (2001)
In my last job we had some memory issues with the build, many times I ended up running out of memory, trying to build the huge Java monolith that was the stupid "product" we made. Automagically, the issues were resolved to a decent extent when switching from GNOME to XFCE, in Ubuntu 24.04.

There is still some use for lightweight even in today. You make better use of your memory/resources in some application, than in something so fundamental.

rgreekguy··on Sexual predators target girls in mixed changing rooms
I don't expect this story to stay up for long.
rgreekguy··on More people crowdfunded basic needs in 2025, GoFundMe report shows
Important to notice that GoFundMe is not available worldwide. It's only available in half a dozen of countries, if I am not mistaken.
rgreekguy··on Why Is the Internet Becoming TV?
The capitalisation, although by mistake, answers the question.
rgreekguy··on Yadea is coming to the Western market
I would swear that, at least the "e-mopeds", are being already imported down here...
rgreekguy··on Wooden skyscrapers point the way to more sustainable cities
From the title you can tell American hands wrote it.
rgreekguy··on New report calls for end to child marriage in the US
The attacks on that religious group do not end...
rgreekguy··on I launched a directory with well-made products because everything seems buggy
A list of some curation, possibly, but that has too many products to be one person's work, with affiliate links to Amazon US. There have been worse promos in here, I guess.
rgreekguy··on Cloudflare: Piracy Liability Ruling Has Global Implications; Publishers Disagree
Of course they do! They are as nasty as the music labels, it's just that people get more attached to the later, regardless of occupation and intelligence.

Like, imagine being forced to take Cloudflare's side!

rgreekguy··on US Pushing Ukraine to accept deal by Thanksgiving or lose support
It does feel weird seeing America not start a war for once, indeed.
rgreekguy··on OpenAI is launching group chats in ChatGPT, WOW
WOW
rgreekguy··on Ask HN: Cloudflare is down. How does this affect you?
Unfortunately it does not. Somehow these issues never affect me or my work. It's horrible (for the latter part, obviously).
rgreekguy··on Can Trump (or anyone) stop the momentum of the EV revolution?
What momentum?! Forced super expensive vehicles that are totally incapable of very long distance travel?

All this change is, is forced. Until I can go and do 1000km stopping only for <10 minutes for refuelling of any sort, on a vehicle than can do half or even a quarter of this distance, there is no revolution to be had. A long-term change, sure, but this is just another thing being forced to the market.

rgreekguy··on I don’t need a Steam Machine
Good, the Steam Machine won't be 600$ most likely, either.

Also you don't necessarily need a dedicated GPU, unless you go with Intel.

rgreekguy··on Two years without Google, et al., has it been worth it?
Very nice article, straight to the point. Also loved the quote in the end.

Only thing I can add to the Murena-likes is iodéOS (iode.tech), a French de-Googled, LineageOS-based OS (distribution?). They have a very big range of phones that you can buy from them, old and somewhat newer. Their business model seems to be either subscription or pay once, for some devices, when you purchase them.

rgreekguy··on Disney yanks channels from YouTube TV after parties fail to resolve dispute
Reminder to archive everything.
rgreekguy··on The human only public license
But my definition of "human" might differ from yours!
rgreekguy··on Apple Might Disable App Tracking Transparency in Europe
"Ignorance is a bliss" the company.

Every other news I read about Apple (that is not "leaks" about the next product/service) I want to go back to Android.

rgreekguy··on Amazon spills plan to nuke Washington with X-Energy mini-reactors
The most disappointing title of the week.
