To create this account I recreated my Tor route three times because Google's Captcha kept saying I'm sending automated queries (not true). After I created the account and posted, I tripped some HN spam filter and had to ask @dang to whitelist me (dang said the defaults were tuned too high). I want to use the Internet anonymously and prove I won't abuse your service. I'm not a bot. I'm HUMAN -- dammit.
If something could kill HN, what could it be?
False. Robocalls can be made unprofitable. Take a deposit from the sender before calling you, and if at your discretion you determined the call was spam, don't refund the deposit.
Robocalls aren't solved because phone software didn't add this feature.
Could comments be assigned some big weight that has the effect of the comment staying around high enough to clear the misconception?
Could each thread be allowed only a finite number of comments or words, to not disperse attention, with lower quality comments forced to disappear?
Could there be a fool-proof mechanism to force comments you know are wrong to disappear?
If a new site like HN or Reddit showed up, how would would like it work? I ask because I'm toying with the idea of one. Thoughtful beta users get in touch.
In the other comment you said sales & marketing roles.
You just saw a candidate's video. How do you "find a culture fit"? What do you look for?
I'm experimenting with a fix for this at repowcha. There's probably a cost threshold past which it becomes unprofitable to post bad comments with an agenda.
edit: and it's also your revenue.
Now I want something more. I want to be able to run localhost.run locally and give someone else an internet URL to connect to my local xterm, or to my local X display (vnc?). I want them to see my text editor and type stuff in it.
$ ssh -R 2000:localhost:8080 localhost.run
The authenticity of host 'localhost.run (35.171.254.69)' can't be established.
RSA key fingerprint is SHA256:FV8IMJ4IYjYUTnd6on7PqbRjaZf4c1EhhEBgeUdE94I.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no/[fingerprint])?
Make it so it prints the url without more input, so it can be called from scripts easily. Like this ssh -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -o UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null -R 80:localhost:8080 localhost.run
2. Then I got this Port 2000 is not allowed. Only port 80 and 443 are allowed.
I didn't see easily that it's the 8080 I should change.3. Can you make it so someone can control my xterm? This could be a useful (and dangerous, but also useful) feature. Check out https://github.com/paradoxxxzero/butterfly
I keep a list of problems when I notice them.
To HN moderators: make it possible to understand why someone downvoted. This is an example of what makes HN off-putting.
> Bitcoin could never replace a national currency.
You can't predict the future.
> With transaction times in the tens of minutes and with a maximal global transaction rate of 5-10 per second. The Blockchain couldn't replace the banking system of single mid-sized town.
With millions of transactions per second, the Lightning network could.
> It's not money.
It's money. Here's an explanation of money https://powreach.com/crypto
The reason spam is everywhere is that the cost of sending spam is low. The solution proposed by rePOWCHA is to increase the cost. It's a form of proof-of-work.
If you're powerful and get 100 emails a day for things that take up your time, you don't want to read 95 of them, but do want those 5 that matter to still be sent to you, by people who are confident enough that their email is important.
A solution to this problem that doesn't take your time is to ask projects to put down a deposit. Bad/spam projects don't get the deposit back. https://repowcha.com solves this.
Check it out at https://powreach.com. It's powered by LTC.
I also made the opposite of an online contact form. You can put down a deposit, basically in escrow, and send a link to someone to redeem it. For example, you can ask someone to give you feedback on a side project and you can pay them, without knowing their payment info. The recipient attaches their payment info when they receive the link.
This is all built on top of https://repowcha.com. I see rePOWCHA as a big missing block in the Internet, with multiple uses cases that remain to be discovered.
Let me know what you think.
Why would easily measuring the timing of each stage be way more work with an SQL database but way easier with a NoSQL database?
> Why do you care so much about predictable supply if the price is anything but predictable?
Because the price will go higher. When the price goes over $x MM per BTC it will be very predictable.
> How is such high volatility commodity a good storage of value?
It stores more value than any other commodity. When the stock market started in 1920s it was no less volatile than Bitcoin. Volatility is a sign of disruption as much as it is a sign of value.
> 1 BTC > 50k USD... Yeah, sure...
If only you could see the data I'm seeing.
Companies that don't matter don't get this.
But since I have no clue how this works legally, and really have no users, I can't go out talking to lawyers about some idea that doesn't have legs. I'll probably take the site offline in a week if posting on Reddit doesn't get users.
3) Added a link to setup a wallet and explained that users can buy LTC with a credit card. I don't know about regular card transactions. It doesn't compromise the creator's anonymity but affects the backer's anonymity. I'm not excited about hooking into Stripe.
captcha is probably enough for spam control.
Posting it on /r/Crowdfunding might get more users.
I'd love to help when you're ready to build the first project :)
edit: If there aren't enough votes after a week, maybe try requiring some number of votes before the project gets built. 500? 10000? Something that will give enough time for the projects to get enough attention.
1) I just made the amount configurable. I had this feature implemented but disabled, because I didn't want people to stop to decide how much to ask for. One less thing to think about. That's how uploading to ptwi is 20-30 times quicker than Ks.
2) What would you suggest to improve this? Similar to (1) I didn't want people stopping to think about spam when creating the project. I had a version where the qrcode was in /prove and I didn't like the user flow. I also disliked it visually. I made three changes now that might help. Reduced the amount to $5 (I hope it's not too low), explained posting projects is anonymous and how it fights spam, and explained in /prove that making a project public will need to pay to prove the project isn't spam.
3) Maybe /project should include a link to a page that explains what cryptocurrency is and what money is. I'll add this.
