rehemiau··on CAPTCHAs don’t prove you’re human – they prove you’re American (2017)
I'm not American and I often see captchas that ask about "cars" or "trucks". And they use similar images. I sometimes don't pass through those. My question is, when I see a truck and I'm being asked to select all cars, should I select the truck or not? For me a truck is a car. Is it not one?

ssh into a secured machine with port forwarding, then being able to access services exposed from that machine e.g. for web testing on Android, or using VNC / NoMachine to remote into it.

Maybe because there are no IDEs on servers
rehemiau··on The Hamler Programming Language
I agree. And only mentioning PureScript as the "base" in one place on the webpage is not giving PureScript enough credit.
rehemiau··on The Hamler Programming Language
And purerl does not? It mentions it in its readme. And in practice, do you know what advantages it gives over the purerl's approach?
rehemiau··on The Hamler Programming Language
How does it compare to PureScript used with purerl? https://github.com/purerl/purerl
rehemiau··on Show HN: A dependently-typed programming language with static memory management
Ability to use the stack is a very important performance oriented feature. Similarily, ability to nest structs or other data structures without intermediate pointers. I hope this could be solvable!
rehemiau··on Show HN: A dependently-typed programming language with static memory management
I didn't find an explaination of how it deals with variables (e.g. strings) allocated on the stack, does/how borrowing work for those?
rehemiau··on The Odin Programming Language
Jonathan Blow's language is the most interesting from these three for me because it will have nice metaprogramming features. The document you linked to seems slightly outdated. One of the beta testers has published some more up to date videos with his language introduction and initial experience: https://youtube.com/watch?v=i1vbvikDiI8&index=1&list=PLhEuCy...

rehemiau··on Hobby x86 kernel written with Zig
It's the best short name we can use right now so it's the one we should use IMO. If it gets a different name, we'll start calling it differently, I don't mind.
rehemiau··on Hobby x86 kernel written with Zig
Looks awesome! Planning to do a similar thing in Jai once it comes out
rehemiau··on How to write better game libraries
C++ is not being used by all indie game developers so I imagine the article was written with that in mind, that the library needs to work with C code as well.
rehemiau··on Elementary OS 5.1 Hera
Makes sense, I hope all installer tools will start using it
rehemiau··on Elementary OS 5.1 Hera
Does elementary still return their release codename instead of the base ubuntu release for `lsb_release -cs` in shell?
rehemiau··on Show HN: Remote work statistics
If I go to https://remotehub.io/cities and scroll down too quickly, each new chunk of cities may load multiple times.

Yeah, no, thanks.

rehemiau··on WebKit Goals for 2020
Testing iOS Safari is painful on Browserstack, Appium adds significant latency which makes the tests slow, they use old Appium versions which can be buggy, and there are limitations due to poor WebDriver support from Apple like not being allowed to switch context to iframes from external domains...
rehemiau··on Show HN: pg_flame – flamegraph visualizations of PostgreSQL query plans
A really great feature that the Oracle database has is ability to provide hints to the planner. Is there anything that prevents PostgreSQL from adding this feature?

edit: Googled it, looks like PostgreSQL maintainers just have an opinion that hints are bad and the planner is good enough:

https://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/OptimizerHintsDiscussion

There are "Explicit JOINs" but I'm not sure how useful they are:

rehemiau··on Firefox Preview/GeckoView Add-Ons Support
Isn't there an option to hide it when scrolling down?

edit: It's supposed to do that automatically, if it doesn't - I think you could report an issue.

Yes, I'm using this one in Firefox for Android: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/uaswitcher/
rehemiau··on New Mac Pro Tech Specs
Not a HEDT here, just a regular desktop, but it is significantly more responsive than a business laptop. Also much cheaper than a laptop comparable in performance. Plus it's upgradeable so more future-proof.

I still have an old laptop that I use to ssh into my workstation occasionally.

rehemiau··on Lumen: An alternative BEAM implementation, designed for WebAssembly
I think they mentioned this in the keynote, but bytecode size is on their radar. To allow dead code elimination, they are not planning to support hot upgrades. This means that you wouldn't be shipping the whole OTP - only the parts that you're using.
rehemiau··on GitHub Supports Web Authentication (WebAuthn) for Security Keys
Currently using this on Firefox for Android through an extension, works great: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/uaswitcher/

It always supported CI/CD, they just changed their marketing strategy from "No it's not just CI/CD" to "Yes we have CI/CD now"
