regularjack··on USDA fired officials working on bird flu, now trying to rehire them
Yeah, it was his plan all along to drive people away from the thing he paid I don't remember how many billions for.
regularjack··on Getter-Setter Pattern Considered Harmful
The article doesn't suggest making the properties public, it makes valid suggestions IMHO (though I don't agree with all). I would recommend reading the article.
regularjack··on Gazeta Wyborcza, Poland's largest newspaper quits X, now on Bluesky
How can you not be
regularjack··on Federal workers say they increasingly distrust platforms like Facebook
You still didn't explain why you think that.
regularjack··on Larry Ellison wants to put all America's data in AI, including DNA
One Rich Asshole Called Larry Ellison
regularjack··on DOGE staffer is trying to reroute FEMA funds
If TFA is an example of the US being a "big winner" then I'm happy to be on the losing side.
regularjack··on U.K. demand for a back door to Apple data threatens Americans, lawmakers say
Corporations are the nice guys now? Please. We need privacy, period.
regularjack··on Federal workers say they increasingly distrust platforms like Facebook
Why would that be a good thing? Sounds like a bad thing to me
regularjack··on Musk-led group makes $97B bid for control of OpenAI
Getting teenagers to siphon your data is definitely a right move in my book
regularjack··on Musk-led group makes $97B bid for control of OpenAI
I want a future where I don't need to pay anyone to do my computing.
regularjack··on AI-generated Answers experiment on Stack Exchange sites
Two wrongs don't make a right
regularjack··on Copilot stops working on code that contains hardcoded banned words from GitHub (2023)
Title has been editorialized, the correct title is:

Copilot stops working on gender related subjects

regularjack··on What's happening inside the NIH and NSF
Are you saying that US is the only country in the world where there are many jobs in academia?
regularjack··on Google will end a core DEI program and evaluate others
We will never know because that who or what doesn't exist.
regularjack··on Introducing deep research
Of course, they had to weasel the word "deep" in there.
regularjack··on Beeper acquired by Automattic
Beeper is a unified messaging app that supports multiple services, the iMessage thing was a separate app called Beeper Mini.

I think Beeper will continue to be useful to people, regardless of whether it supports iMessage or not. Obviously, supporting iMessage would be a big plus, but from what I gather, many people use it for other services.

regularjack··on Worldcoin hit with temporary ban in Spain over privacy concerns
What service exactly is WorldCoin providing to the "users" here?
regularjack··on US spends billions on roads rather than public transport in 'climate time bomb'
You'll end up with 20k more cars needing parking too.
regularjack··on Meta Admits Use of 'Pirated' Book Dataset to Train AI
I hope courts decide that rights owners have a say on how others use their content.
regularjack··on A list of Hacker News's undocumented features and behaviors
Moderation != Censorship. Any online community without moderation is doomed. By now we have decades of proof for this, so I'm baffled that people still don't understand it.
regularjack··on Website search hurts my feelings
Implementing search correctly would solve the problem too, without requiring a square kilometer of GPUs.
regularjack··on How to Become a Great Software Engineer
I'm not familiar with Tiobe, but completely disagree that SOLID is irrelevant. I consider it to be as relevant today as it has always been.
regularjack··on Beeper – Moving Forward
Beeper says in the article that they'd be willing to pay Apple for use of their resources.
regularjack··on Electric scooter company Bird files for bankruptcy
I hope they all go bankrupt, so there's no longer foreign corporations dumping their trash on my streets.
regularjack··on Deleting 50k Lines of Code in 3 Days
I think you meant run away from them, and immediately.
regularjack··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
I know enough about this conflict to know that Israel illegally occupies territories. If I am wrong about that, please do educate me.
regularjack··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
Maybe rockets wouldn't be shot if Israel would not illegally occupy territories.

It seems pretty logical to me that when a state starts illegally extending its borders pretty much immediately after its formation, their neighbors will not be happy about it and will fight back.

No need to be an antisemite to understand this, it's just common sense.

regularjack··on EU strikes deal to regulate ChatGPT, AI tech
If those other people start using tech to automatically recognize my face on CCTV footage, that absolutely has an impact on me. I'm using the CCTV footage example because it's one of the things this regulation forbids.
regularjack··on W3C Leaves Twitter
That was the cringiest part of the whole debacle.
regularjack··on "Smartifying" my hi-fi system
I don't think yak shaving is an appropriate term to describe this. Yak shaving is when you wanted to do something but end up doing something else.

Here, the author wants to do this thing, so they do it. They're not shaving yaks, they're doing the thing they set out to do.
