redbell··on Show HN: An e-ink frame that hears birds and draws them as 1800s illustrations
That's indeed a cool project and it's this kind of stuff that makes HN a unique corner in this digital world. I can classify this project with [1](Ranked #3 as the most upvoted Show HN of all time), [2](#4) and [3](#6) as non pure-software products that happen to also integrates hardware as well.

The only thing I wish to be added is a short video showing the actual frame in action to express motion and sound so I can better feel it. While the provided image (hero.jpg) gives me a sense of the product, I just can't smell it yet. I visited https://fugleramme.arnegiacomo.dev/ hoping for a live feed but it seems just a static image.

Kudos for the author and I hope we can see the next iteration!

This was hard to swallow for me! Why you are redirecting to X, which is the exact opposite of what you are offering?! Don't get me wrong, I use XCancel and Nitter regularly an I like them, it just hits hard!

redbell··on Parque Arqueológico do Solstício
I found it to be very fascinating how names like Amazon, Alibaba, Tesla, Titanic, Mustang et al had almost crushed the original meaning that, once encountered, you instantly recognized it as a brand/product unless clear context is provided.
redbell··on ChatGPT outage – Resolved
While AWS and CloudFlare are becoming synonymous to The Internet, these AIs are becoming synonymous to The Brain & Thinking for most people out there where losing access to them for even a short time, make them quasi-paralyzed and I really start feeling this now as I haven't written a single coding function in two months now but just a few lines here and there.
redbell··on ChatGPT Is Throwing 404

redbell··on ChatGPT Is Throwing 404
After around half an hour of struggle trying to figure out why Codex keeps failing with msg "unexpected status 404 Not Found: Unknown error.." after reconnecting 5/5 times, I gave up, especially when I tested my internet connection and found it to be working properly. I googled "codex+unexpected status 404 Not Found" and, surprisingly, the first result was from HackerNews! As always, HN is the GOAT.

redbell··on Memory prices climb 500% in 12 months
In short, this is how life is designed. Nobody can ever predict with a 100% accuracy what will come in the future.

If Laszlo Hanyecz knew that, after 10 years, 1 BTC will exceed $50K, he wouldn't trade his 10,000 Bitcoins (~$41) for two pizzas!

redbell··on Mario Meets Pareto
> You can identify all efficient drivers that, unlike Koopa, are never dominated on both speed and acceleration. Together, they form what is called the Pareto front (or frontier).

Coincidently, this Pareto Front concept is currently on the front page on HN at #10 (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49096439) and apparently, it was posted before this post.

A question I, sometimes, ask my friends and relatives when discussing the human brain and its limitations is: Imagine a color that you've never seen?

Yes, I am outside the US and I don't use a VPN.

For the game, I believe there is nothing suspicious, at least to me. It's a small puzzle platformer game with basic mechanics and very simple graphics, no harm, no violence or inappropriate content. In fact, my first two playterers right now are my two sons!

What made you think I used AI to write this? I didn't. This is my writing. I used AI to correct and rephrase the wording in the past, but a couple of months ago, I decided to never use it again for writing, but coding, yes.

My excitement about Anthropic had fabled-out dramatically when they suspended my pro account about two weeks ago within just 12 hours of fair use.

I was really mind-blown when I tried Fable 5 for the first time to help me improve a game I was working on but shortly, they decided that I had a suspicious activity and suspended my account without a clear reason.

I submitted a an appeal describing that I am 100% sure I haven't broken any rules and that it was my very first project but, unfortunately, after about 20 days now, nothing seem to be happening.

The thing that hurts me the most is that I had the same experience in the very first days of Anthropic. They suspended my account immediately after I submitted the first prompt, I commented back then (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39698788) and fortunately, someone from Anthropic reach out to me via X and helped me get my account back.

To be honest, I haven't used Claude much since then but when I decided it's time to give it a try, they locked me out again! For reference, the account I used recently is relatively a new one but the activity is crystal clear that it is fair use.

redbell··on Show HN: Homegames. An open-source game platform I've been making for 8 years
> Kaboom Valley

This game reminded me of Gorilla Basic (GORILLA.BAS), it really brought back some childhood memories, so nostalgic! Unfortunately, this Kaboom Valley game seem to be unplayable! None of the buttons is working for me and only the computer is able to fire its projectiles over my head :(

redbell··on Study reveals what people see when they read lips
Football coaches and players, especially in Europe games, were used to speak freely during gameplays but in recent years they were forced to mask their lips/mouths otherwise, specialists will decipher their conversations and reveal their intentions in the game.
redbell··on Identity verification on Claude
> We are rolling out identity verification for a few use cases, and you might see a verification prompt when accessing certain capabilities, as part of our routine platform integrity checks, or other safety and compliance measures.

I'd like to know what capabilities/features/plans that need ID verification as it is unclear for me right now. Also, this would become a true barrier in the future if they apply this for every account regardless of the features being used.

> We selected Persona Identities as our verification partner based on the strength of their technology, privacy controls, and security safeguards

Since I read I verified my LinkedIn identity. Here's what I handed over (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47098245), I, somehow, start feeling very uncomfortable with ID verification as it appears there are actually many players processing my personal data, not just Persona.

And, I am reading this on HN right now. What a coincidence!

I read a lot about social engineering and how the human being is considered the weakest layer in the security chain but this is the first time I've came across this pattern. Eye opening indeed.

redbell··on Meta's ships facial recognition on smart glasses
IMHO, Meta is the prime example for privacy intrusion in tech history and with this new smart glasses device, they've leveled their game too far by recording people in their home, sometimes even naked, without their consent. From the screenshot in the article "Troubleshoot reCAPTCHA Mobile Verification":

At first glance, reading this made me wonder: what is exactly a compatible mobile device? But they quickly answered this question just below:

> If verifying on iOS/iPadOS...

> If verifying on Android device with Google Play Services...

OK then, got it! These are the ONLY compatible mobile devices. No de-googled devices are being welcomed here.
