Sounds fun. Looking forward to it, thanks.

It's kind of a spoiler.

recycleme··on Family trees: Tracing the world's ancestor
Yup, IIRC, in the God Delusion, Dawkins talks about a belief spectrum. The spectrum ranges from 1 thru 7 where 1 is a strong theist who believes and knows there is a God and 7 is a strong Atheist who knows there is no God. Dawkins mentions he is a 6 (low probability of a God, doesn't know for sure but chooses to live on the assumption that there is no God) and leaning toward 7.

I would consider The God Delusion a science book.

(It's really good btw. I would recommend it to any theist.)

recycleme··on Sexual Harassment at DefCon (and Other Hacker Cons)
It's even worse to start invading someone's personal space.

That said, not all women will automatically assume you are creepy just because they are not attracted to you.

recycleme··on Sexual Harassment at DefCon (and Other Hacker Cons)
That's some pretty disgusting stuff. It definitely goes beyond hacker culture. Look for it in your non-hacker friends, family, co-workers, etc. Teach respect whenever you get the chance because it comes down to the individual.
recycleme··on Thoughts on being a programmer
I've met a few senior level programmers who frown on detailed commenting (or commenting at all). I cannot wrap my head around this since I consider it best practice to comment.

A reason given to me was that "it takes up too much time to comment and when you make a code change you need to make a change in the comments as well." To that I say, so what! I would like the future me (or the future programmer) to have full knowledge on what's going on in the code.

recycleme··on Thoughts on being a programmer
Communicate often. Have a beer with a fellow programmer. Don't be afraid to break code.

Your body starts eating away at your muscles and storing as much fat as it can. That's why it's important to exercise.
recycleme··on Beyond Meat: Fake Meat So Good It Will Freak You Out
> Why would a person who is vegan want to eat fake meat?

I understand what you're saying, but the short answer is because fake meat is not meat. I don't think it's about not eating what tastes good but it's about not eating meat (or any animal by-products).

recycleme··on Beyond Meat: Fake Meat So Good It Will Freak You Out
I've tried a couple of beef and chicken alternatives that were splendid. The trick was to cook it to my liking. Crispy, wet, etc.

I imagine these kinds of foods are ok for transitioning into a vegan. However, I was vegan once, and I took it as an opportunity to discover all kinds of new vegetables and fruits. It was interesting learning to cook with no meat. I had discovered a whole new world of food.

Eating fake meat seems a bit nostalgic tbh.

recycleme··on Google Talk is down
Down in Austin, Texas. I can see some of my contacts online though.
recycleme··on Google Talk is down
What you find in google is a subset of the world wide web which is a subset of the internet. There is much more to the internet than you think.
recycleme··on Just pay me.
When I was freelance I was lucky enough to get paid on time. Every time. I attribute it to the communication I had with the client. I would speak or email the client everyday I was working on their project. When it came time to invoice them I would simply send out an email.

Communicate often. It helps.

recycleme··on Destined To Fail
This hits close to home. I tried getting internet service from TWC twice but they failed each time. The first time they couldn't find the cable output. Turned out it didn't exist. So I scheduled an appointment for a "wall drop" (creation of needed cable output), but the guy just showed up confused that I didn't have one asked me to schedule a wall drop.
recycleme··on Less time sitting 'extends life'
Luckily the cubicles here are tall and easily modifiable. I went ahead (w/ the help of a co-worker) and adjusted the cubicle desk to a stand up height without asking for permission. My boss did not like the idea of a stand up desk one bit but I explained my perspective and he let me be.

recycleme··on A standing desk for $22
I just grabbed a stool we had in the office. Problem solved!
recycleme··on A standing desk for $22
A stand-up desk is not for everyone.

I've been doing it for close to a month and I'm enjoying it. One of the best benefits that I get from it is not feeling any afternoon drowsiness. I take sitting breaks when I feel like it. It feels good to have a choice between sitting and standing.

recycleme··on A standing desk for $22
If you work in a cubicle and your desk is attached to the walls, get a screwdriver and a co-worker (optional) to help you adjust it to a comfortable standing height. I did it and it was easy and free!

I received a javascript alert that an error has occurred. I'm using Chrome. I can see the editor but not the template/project I chose.

Either way, I bet the developers had fun with this feature.

recycleme··on Password Rules
A long time ago I was unable to answer the security question for my AOL account. The account had been hacked and used for mass spamming. AOL would not close the account, or help me change the password (or stop the spamming) until I answered the question.
