readthenotes1··on Exercise intensity is associated with cardiometabolic health
I guess it depends on your age and current fitness level. When I was young and fit, I could outrun the treadmill for the periods of time I needed.

The treadmill also wasn't able to change speeds fast enough to really do the good Sprint simulations

readthenotes1··on How the Chorleywood Bread Process transformed British bread
It's as if the author, having come across a fairly interesting topic, decided to see how poorly hen could write about it.

People complain a lot about AI written articles, but is this any better? I don't think so, I don't care who authors it but I don't want discursions and distractions.

readthenotes1··on The Feminist Was a Spy
It reads like it was written by the CIA, mentioning only recent failures, not world changing operations back in Steniems day

The media in the US doesn't cover all the Epstein associates for some reason.

But he is. For example:

readthenotes1··on Tesla killing Solar Roof is leaving installers with six-figure losses
Sorta.

The closest I know of is https://www.gaf.com/en-us/roofing-materials/residential-roof...

The advantage is that you don't have to drill additional holes into your roof, nor do you have to have shingles under the solar panels.

Depending on where you live and how much you pay in taxes, they may be enticing.

readthenotes1··on Higher social class predicts increased unethical behavior
The sad thing is how many people will believe this and repeat it. Kind of like the Stanford Prison or Milgram experiment, Or pretty much most anything that's come out of sociology

Ehud Baraj, wasn't he a close confidante of Epstein?

'This masculine urge to “grind”'

I recall recently reading an essay by a woman who described at one point how important simply trudging through was.

Not sure that "masculine" is apposite here

readthenotes1··on GrapheneOS says Pixel 11 has MTE support after all
The thread made it sound like it was more- that the actual release of pixel 11 did not have the firmware to support MTE, not that it was just disabled.

Is the thread wrong or did I misread it?

readthenotes1··on Marx, Keynes, and AI
Weird it was disproven because that's exactly what I'd do, and what many people who retired early, or in their young 60s, do.

The author addressed some of his concerns with how tax dollars were being spent in the article. And he predicted your reply as well.

readthenotes1··on Study reveals UnitedHealth's profit margins four times what it claimed [pdf]
That 80% problem also means that there's no incentive for an executive to reduce medical costs because that would then reduce the 20% hen can allocate to henself.

I'm pretty sure that's why UHC gives people on ACA $100 gift card just for visiting their PCP. That inflates the 80% bucket.

readthenotes1··on The journalist facing an $800 daily fine to keep her sources secret
That's why there are specific protections for government whistleblowers?

This case, though, is entirely different. It's not someone reporting that the government is doing something heinous that needs the light of day, it's a government official abusing their position of trust.

How would you like it if someone started posting your tax forms? It's not much different to me than the popo who abuse Flock.

That's what makes it such a good case. Neither the traitors (Chen and her husband are both US citizens) nor the leakers are heroes.

readthenotes1··on The journalist facing an $800 daily fine to keep her sources secret
Who would have thought that Fox News would be an upright citizen in this?

It shows someone there has some motivation beyond this quarter's financial disclosure.

readthenotes1··on DOJ prosecutes single FOIA dodger while defending systemwide evasion
Usually when I try to see what the previous administration did when someone was complaining about the current, I get loads of support that " this is the way it's always been"

readthenotes1··on Peppermint oil reduces blood pressure by 8.48 mmHg in small study
8/130 is ~ 6%

That is significant.

Of course, you would have to do a real study to see side effects versus current blood pressure medication, but if there is no real harm in peppermint, the 6% drop over an adult lifetime might make a large difference in vascular health.

readthenotes1··on One corner of China’s internet is insisting that the Tang Dynasty never existed
Many of the people I know that believe odd things do use reason, but they only accept certain things as facts and discard other things as dysfactual.

Sometimes the things they accept is facts are merely delusions, of course, but that doesn't mean they don't reason. It just means that their reason is based on delusions.

Otoh, I also have met a number of people that when you ask "because why" freeze up as they simply have no basis at all and don't understand themselves why they came to hold a position.

And we can't forget that wood and witches are the only things that float because Science.

readthenotes1··on One corner of China’s internet is insisting that the Tang Dynasty never existed

And yet I wouldn't want to fund a paper for the military full of DC gossip and AP News reprints.

At $40T in debt and officially at peace, I also don't want to fund more military spending.

readthenotes1··on US debt has hit $40tn - Will that be a wake-up call?
Clinton didn't have the line item veto long enough to make the difference. What he had was a booming economy and a republican Congress and the ability to get along with them.
readthenotes1··on The Chauffeur Problem (1999)
I do not believe there is much of a difference between being at the mercy of a government bureaucrat and being at the mercy of another bureaucrat.

I think one of the key things you and the original objector miss is that the typists were usually not under direct administrative control by the people using them. Instead, there was a side bureaucracy that hired and fired them. They could generally behave with impunity as long as they were following the rules as written and had the support of their own management.
