rd07··on Leaving Neovim for Zed
Talking about text/code editor journey, currently I am using Pragtical, a fork of Lite XL. I have always wanted a GUI editor that is lightweight but easy enough to extend with plugin. And Pragtical and Lite XL almost checks all the box for me. There is still some missing features like code folding that has not been implemented, but it is not a killer feature for me. I actually quite enjoy fiddling with it and I have been writing several plugins for Lite XL and Pragtical even though I have no experience on Lua before. Lite XL's Matrix rooms (which is bridged with their Discord) is quite active and their member usually responds to any question asked.
rd07··on Leaving Neovim for Zed
I agree that Kate is a good code editor. I have tried more than a year ago when I still use KDE Plasma (now switched to Gnome). Honestly, I am happy that there is at least one GUI Code Editor from a big community that actually on par with some popular code editor (VS Code, Sublime, etc). Because I see that most code editors made by the Linux community are always lacking in features when compared to other popular code editors. However, there are some things that make me not use Kate as my daily editor. One of them is the file browser feature which I find more complicated than its alternatives in Sublime Text or VSCode for example. In addition, the small number of plugins for Kate is also one of the reasons I do not use it.
rd07··on Indonesia’s Emergence
Well, it is just my opinion, but I am sure the reality is not that far off. I think the majority are voting based on the popularity of the candidate. Some people I know choose candidates based on which candidate has the most support in the surrounding community. They just follow the people's choices without finding out about the programs promoted by the candidates they choose.
rd07··on Indonesian government datacenter locked down in $8M ransomware rumble
As an Indonesian working as a software developer, I can say that integration is more akin to a jargon than something actually planned and properly implemented here in Indonesia. The apps number continue to grow because almost every time the head of an institution changes (on whatever level it is), the new one would be more likely to create a new app from scratch as a form of achievement.
rd07··on Indonesian government datacenter locked down in $8M ransomware rumble
I wonder if they do not have a contingency plan for this kind of scenario.
rd07··on Indonesia’s Emergence
As an Indonesian, I have to admit that most of our people are susceptible to cheap but clever personal branding. Before running on 2024 presidential election, Prabowo Subianto (the elected president) was imaged as a firm and authoritative former general. But, when he run on the presidential election, he changed his personal image to be a "gemoy" (a slang for chubby and cute kid/baby) and even dancing around with his supporter, something that he never do on his past election. His pairing with Gibran (the son of Joko Widodo, the current president of Indonesia) also gave some factor to his winning the election.
rd07··on Viagra improves brain blood flow and could help to prevent dementia
A curious question, is nasal congestion has any correlation with high blood pressure?
rd07··on I didn't touch a thing – just some cables and a monitor – and my computer broke
It is funny that my first rule for handling client's complaint is "It is (almost) always user's fault". And that was backed by several years of experiences as a programmer and IT Support for my institutions.
rd07··on Blue-Recorder, a Simple Screen Recorder Written in Rust
A few weeks ago, I tried Blue Recorder just because Gnome's Screen Recorder gave out some static when recording a certain area. IIRC, in Blue Recorder I can't even do recording a selected area, maybe because I am on wayland.
rd07··on Beeper Mini is back
As much as I don't like it, I am sure that Whatsapp is the go to communication channel in the fourth most populous country on Earth.
rd07··on Show HN: Beeper Mini – iMessage client for Android
I hope they open source their client app or at least makes it possible to connect to other matrix server. For me, their client app is the best matrix client in terms of UI.
rd07··on Lenovo exec promises 80% of its devices will be consumer-repairable by 2025
Well, Thinkpad is not the only product of Lenovo
rd07··on ChromeOS is Linux with Google’s desktop environment
I haven't used it yet, but maybe openfyde.io is one of the de-googled versions of Chromium OS
rd07··on Windows popup to change competing browser search engine to Bing anticompetitive?
Your 3rd and 4th point makes me wonder about your hardware as well as the distro and desktop environment you use to have that kind of experience. My recipe for trouble-less Linux installation is to use hardware that has well-known compatibility with Linux (Thinkpad for me), as well as a popular distro and desktop environment (Manjaro+KDE or more recently EndeavourOS+Gnome for me).
rd07··on Off-grid solar brings light, time and income to remotest villages
> While the country has targeted more solar as part of its climate goals, there has been limited progress due to regulations that don’t allow households to sell power back to the grid, ruling out a way of defraying the cost that has helped people afford solar in other parts of the world.

I little correction here, Indonesia do have a regulation that allow households to sell power back to the grid[1].

rd07··on I built an iMessage bot using Beeper
They have a self-hosted instruction here :

https://github.com/beeper/self-host

However, as it is stated, you can't use Beeper to connect to a self-hosted server. You must use other Matrix client such as Element.

rd07··on Show HN: Ecode – A minimalist and fast open-source code editor
I am happy to see one more open source GUI text editor that aims to be fast, minimalist, yet has some essential features (at least for me) like LSP support, minimap, and terminal support. I hope this editor will have a good plugin manager in the future.
rd07··on Lite XL: A lightweight text editor written in C and Lua
After reading your comment, I tried to setup a CudaText + LSP Plugin + Intelephense as I mainly develop in PHP. Unfortunately, my experience of LSP on CudaText is not as good as Lite XL.

Also, looking at its repository, CudaText currently only has 1 active contributor, which is a little worrying if I want to use it as my main text editor. I hope the community around CudaText become bigger because I think the concept is good, and I really hope CudaText can be on par with Sublime Text.

rd07··on Lite XL: A lightweight text editor written in C and Lua
I hope LPM gets to 1.0 soon. Having to download a lua file or clone a repository to plugins directory is easy, but it can get messy overtime. Also, I hope Lite XL has a plugin store/market like Sublime's packagecontrol.io or open-vsx.org. I think the current lite-xl-plugins repository is just too basic.
rd07··on What would it take to bring back the dinosaurs?
The lack of an apex predator that can bring humanity close to extinction maybe
rd07··on Pulsar: A Community Effort to Revive the Atom Text Editor
I think we have the same preference regarding text editor. I also prefer Atom UI compared to VSCode UI. And even if I can customize it to look the same as Atom, it will never feel the same.

My only complaint with Atom is about performance. A fresh install of Atom feels normal fast at first, but as I add more plugins, it gradually feels slower. VSCode is better in this regard. Nowadays I mainly use Sublime Text, which is faster than VSCode. I also keep an eye on Lite-XL, which has the potential to be as fast as Sublime Text with a smaller memory footprint.

rd07··on Lastpass Security Incident
In Android, I use Keepass2Android Password Safe app by Philip Crocol. As far as my experience goes, it is quite smooth and for the most part it is able to fill out the login form properly.
rd07··on Ask HN: Google Maps alternatives that uses OSM and has a review feature
I have tried Open Place Reviews, but I am not sure on how to use it. Maybe the review is not the same as Google Map's review?
rd07··on Ask HN: Which Linux terminal emulator do you prefer and why?
Yakuake is my daily tool for development. I have tried other Quake-like terminal emulator like Guake on Gnome, but Yakuake is the best for me.
rd07··on Review of /e/ – Android-based alternative for mobile phones
I have installed /e/ on my old Xiaomi phone for months now, and it is amazing. The OS is stable, and I can install many apps from the apps store. It also being updated frequently, so at least it has the latest security patch covered. If only my phone doesn't have a charging problem (it is a hardware problem), I might have used it as my main phone.
rd07··on Uses for an old Android device
I have searched for a way to use my Xiaomi Mi A1 phone. I want to use it as a personal cloud storage, but I haven't found out how to do it. Using it as a dedicated ebook reader maybe the best idea I can do with it.
rd07··on Five planets are lining up in the sky in June and will peak tonight
Back when I was in high school, I lived relatively far from urban area, and light pollution has not been so bad. Night sky was very beautiful back then. I used to wake up just to observe any sky event, be it a lunar eclipse, meteor shower, or just to captivate myself with the beauty of Milky Way. Now that I live closer to the city, and the light pollution is quite bad,I can't enjoy watching the night sky like it used to be.
rd07··on Always Own Your Platform (2019)
I think hosting a website in a low powered computer like Raspberry Pi can be an alternative to really own our platform. Granted, it can't handle big traffic, but it is cheap enough to built and maintain yourself.
rd07··on Always Own Your Platform (2019)
I used to have my own blog with my own domain from 2009-2012. The increasing popularity of Facebook in my country and the waning of my passion for writing blog post, make me abandon it. Currently I still have a blog in a couple of blogging platforms, but they are unmaintained and it has been a long time since the last time I wrote there.

Personally, I want it to go back to how it was before. I want to start a new blog with my own domain. But I don't know if I can write again like it used to be.

rd07··on I want an iPhone Mini-sized Android phone
The lack of less-than-5-inches android phones also disappointed me. My first and second android phones come with 4.7 and 5.0 inches display respectively. And then, when I have to upgrade to my current phone which is 6.4 inches, I feel like my hands are a little too small for it and I have to constantly use 2 hands to hold it so it won't drop.
