rcshubhadeep··on How the Higgs Boson Ruined Peter Higgs’s Life
It is named after Prof Satyendra Nath Bose. A physicist and true polyglot from pre-independent India. He was in his twenties when he figured this out. Of course never really received any larger fame, as is customary for Theoretical scientists from South East Asia (well most of the time) but if anyone is interested here is the story - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satyendra_Nath_Bose

rcshubhadeep··on Ask HN: Why PyTorch einsum is significantly slower than transpose
To give you an example

a = torch.randn(100, 5000, 8000)

%%timeit

torch.einsum('b i j -> b j i', a) ---- > 5.3 µs ± 11 ns per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100,000 loops each)

%%timeit

a.transpose(1, 2) ---- > 1.16 µs ± 3.9 ns per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 1,000,000 loops each)

Tensors were not put to GPU. These are CPU based result.

rcshubhadeep··on Ask HN: Why PyTorch einsum is significantly slower than transpose
Tried a few sets, went until 2000, 3000 and the time gap between the two results remains more or less constant!... Not sure how to interpret it.
rcshubhadeep··on Ask HN: Why isn't there a Google competitor emerging?
I don't have a fb account. I am very happy about that :)

Use it and love it. I believe that table plus (or similar ones) are nice and cool, but for me, DBeaver is very powerful and useful piece of software. It may not look cool sometimes, but it gets the job done. And it has a lot of connectors. Plus it is free! I can't expect more.
rcshubhadeep··on Ask HN: How common is it for people to come back to a previous employer?
I did it myself. Just two months and half back I joined back a company I left in 2018. I left the company to work on more machine learning related projects and now I joined back as a senior DS. I really feel good about this move and I am happy I did it.
rcshubhadeep··on Tree Sitter and the Complications of Parsing Languages
tree-sitter is a great framework. I have used it quite a bit in past. I even created a small library on top of it, called tree-hugger (https://github.com/autosoft-dev/tree-hugger) Really enjoyed their playground as well.

rcshubhadeep··on Short Tutorial on Python's ChainMap
Thanks for the comments. The Author here. I know the article does indeed lack depth. But on the other hand, I have a precise goal in all the articles I write for this newsletter. I just want to introduce some concepts, which are not commonplace, very briefly. so that you can read in an email, in 2-3 minutes max. I try most of the time to point out to the original documentation so that anyone curious to know more can follow and learn the details.

What do you think about this approach?

(That is kind of why I named the newsletter as `Python's Byte` :) )

rcshubhadeep··on Show HN: CodeBERT Detecting Wrong Comment and Code Association
Hello All,

Here is our first demo showing first version of our model detecting docstring and function association.

If you want to know more please visit - https://github.com/autosoft-dev/code-bert

Please share your feedback. We are really keen on understanding how can we help developers.

Being Senior Developers, we want to give back to the amazing community.

rcshubhadeep··on Code only says what it does
Here is little demo of codeBERT - https://youtu.be/oDqW1JHmaYY

codeBERT is trying to predict if a certain function and its docstring are associated or not.

Thought about sharing it, I guess it is interesting in this context

rcshubhadeep··on Show HN: CodeBERT a RoBERTa model pre-trained on Python Code (Colab)
Hello,

We have released CodeBERT few days ago and now we make available the first in a series of notebooks to show different aspects of it. We will also provide fine-tuning and other types of notebooks soon.

If you have any questions, please post it here. I will do my best to answer your questions.

Happy coding!

SEEKING WORK | Remote

Hi, I am a software engineer and machine learning engineer for more than 14 years now. Worked in start-ups all along. Created two companies so far. Technically led successful products and teams. Had been a top freelancer in Upwork. And presently on a break to create a company but also looking for freelance works. I am highly skilled in Python, Go, JS, C++, and presently learning Rust.

I got published internationally as the co-author of a book on Data Science. Also, I wrote one of the most prominent Trie algo out there (https://towardsdatascience.com/implementing-a-trie-data-stru...)

rcshubhadeep··on The Uncertain Future of the World’s Largest Secondhand Book Market
Besides all the capitalist and efficiency debate, I grew up buying and reading books from here. I used to know many of the shop owners personally. It happened several times that they kept a particular book on the side for me to see it first. As they happen to know my liking and reading habit. I could even bargain, in those days when money was scarce. I have fond memories of walking down those streets in hit summer afternoon browsing through thousands of books and pondering what to buy. Thanks to those stalls I got introduced and could read world literature, philosophy, science ... I will be extremely sad to see it gone! Please, if anyone is listening, please stop this.
