On Post-GDPR world I find this very surprising. And then again, not.
rasjani··on Apollo Accelerators – Amiga Classic accelerator boards
AmigaOS 4.1 fe came out 4 years ago so it’s not that ancient.
rasjani··on Monks Who Play Punk (2007)
Some of the reggae music is also very “religious” to the point where lyrics are quotes from bible or straight up Psalms with little bit of rewording. Specifically “Uk roots” Soundsystem scene could be attributed to be very close to Rastafari worshipping due to lyrics of the songs, chanting of mc and how music is played which sets the tone of the dance. Of course a lot of people are just in to it for the vibes but it’s still really hard to not make a comparison.
rasjani··on Anti-If: The missing patterns (2016)
I’ve used Python’s decorators for similar pattern. Syntax and scope is bit different but same structure in general level.
rasjani··on 'Unique' cannabis compound reverses brain aging in mice
I can’t really describe the process but essentially it’s very similar way of how I learned to cope with constant nightmares which eventually led me to also learn lucid dreaming. When you realize that setting is A, and it’s most likely caused by Z, rationalize that you have dealt with same before and managing the symptoms becomes easier and eventually you don’t even notice them.

rasjani··on Microsoft Is Said to Have Agreed to Acquire GitHub
Point being, the data can and should live within the repo like gh-pages has been doing for a while. Not about those tools being integrated to official git tooling.

My first work experience was for pharmacy pos system written in Turbo Pascal too :) Implemented stock ordering via modem calling into demodulator.
rasjani··on Show HN: I built an open source event-management system
Albeit I havent made any effort to try to fix it - its a bit hard to compile on Windows.
rasjani··on Software Testing Anti-patterns
Yellow rubber duck makes pair programming way more socially awkward ;)
rasjani··on Ask HN: What visas are available for working in Europe without a degree?
I have faint feeling that (atleast in Scandinavia) - if you find a suitable employer, they will help visa legalities if you are a match for them.
rasjani··on Sl: a mirror version of ls
Thats why I write my code without any libraries or frameworks.

Sarcasm aside, you are correct but it’s better to learn things first. But after a while, those aliases and dotfiles are just shortcuts. I’ve had my dotfile repo with things I need for something like 8 years and hasn’t changed much beside vim plug-in updates and I could just whip up the same setup manually but it would take a half a day to get everything to how I prefer things. They just save time and sanity.

rasjani··on Show HN: Gnomecast – A Linux Chromecast GUI with transcoding and subtitles
Been writing a toy project like that. App on PC listen to pushbullet stream and when url matches given criteria, it will then send the url to chromecast. Not finished, not even working yet :)
rasjani··on Equifax under pressure after data breach update
GDBR hopefully will be what you are asking.
rasjani··on “We Are Morons” – A quick look at the Win2k source (2004)
Single apps might be good replacement for greader app but not really for greader as a service. For example: i have multiple devices with different OS’s, some of they had native apps some didn’t but no matter where and how I used reader, I was always in same state from where I had previously been (read items and tags).

I’ve personally settled with feedly now but even now after all these years, it’s not up to par with google reader.

rasjani··on Wi-Fi startup Eero lays off 30 employees
I wouldn’t say dirt cheap - one could pickup 20€ WiFi with router capabilities and be happy with it.. Cheapest ubiquity here was somewhere around 80€ for just basestation. However I did pickup their router and WiFi for something like 160€ and couldnt be happier. Router software seemed superb in configuration options and signal strength covered my house without a breeze whereas I previously had 2. My best tech purchase for 2017.
rasjani··on Eating reindeer meat
I’d assume thats that’s the case as fodder (afaik) plays a big role in their diet nowadays.
rasjani··on Eating reindeer meat
As in other reply, afaik it doesn’t taste the same as it used to. Some people might say it’s worse but I think it’s more about what people where used to.
rasjani··on Eating reindeer meat
I haven’t eaten meat for a long time so I can’t say much about better or worse but my understanding and what buddies are saying is that it’s not as good as it used to be. Not bad but it’s not the same taste anymore.
rasjani··on Eating reindeer meat
Atleast in Finland, reindeer meat doesn’t taste the same as it used to due to change of food they are fed now.
rasjani··on Axiom Beta – Digital cinema camera built around FOSS and open hardware
Swapping sensors - wouldn’t that also require hefty software changes?
rasjani··on Qt 5.10 released

rasjani··on C++ unit testing with Qt Test, part 2: advanced testing
Hey, finnish stereotype here! Brutal honesty :)
rasjani··on C++ unit testing with Qt Test, part 2: advanced testing
I know :( just wanted to point that out and emphasize that it's partly due to qmake and how it's handled within qt creator.
rasjani··on C++ unit testing with Qt Test, part 2: advanced testing
No it wasn't intentional - and iOS client I currently have installed does not have edit and account password is something I don't remember without password manager so I couldn't just switch to web :(

Sorry

rasjani··on C++ unit testing with Qt Test, part 2: advanced testing
Heavily on the directory structure and how one sets up the the qmake's pro files. This is very cumbersome for mono repos with multiple build targets.
rasjani··on C++ unit testing with Qt Test, part 2: advanced testing
Qt creator integration relies
rasjani··on Security alerts on GitHub
Point probably for lacking support for other than npm&gem packages is that for those langs/formats, there is a good sources for getting that sort of data externally.
