rapidaneurism··on Try to take my position: The best promotion advice I ever got
Interview for another job.

Changing jobs every 2 years is the best way to increase your career long earnings.

People who do not move, signal that their market value is lower than the current compensation.

For extra money move right after a pay rise (so that you can negotiate higher salary)

rapidaneurism··on Don't avoid workplace politics
Reasonable for whom?

In sufficiently small companies yes it makes sense for everyone. In larger and more regimented companies doing the Greenfield project can (and often does) lead to promotions and higher earnings.

Teamwork is fine, but when salaries and promotions are individually negotiated you have to look after number one.

rapidaneurism··on 4chan will refuse to pay daily online safety fines, lawyer tells BBC
It's not 50% of the electorate, in the UK it is the plurality (second best plus 1 vote) of 50% of the electoral seats plus 1 seat. That gives absolute power.

rapidaneurism··on 4chan will refuse to pay daily online safety fines, lawyer tells BBC
Being unpopular is not the opposite of popular.

The winter fuel payments were very unpopular with a very vocal part of the population, while any benefits were very thinly distributed on the rest of the electorate.

The cost of the online safety act is very small and almost invisible distributed across everyone. Any major effects (leaking of personal data) can be blamed on the victims (most people assume that only perverts will have to verify their age). Another effect where security conscious people will be excluded from online discussions is probably in invisible (if not a benefit) to most people.

How do you pass a user token to MCP calls? Do you hand the token to the LLM and expect it to fill an argument?

Can't he just add an introduction where he speaks about it, this making the whole work copyrighted? Seems to work for people printing ancient texts.

Haha, I do the I'm confused, but that is:

2 me hedging my bets in case I am the idiot.

rapidaneurism··on Anthropic: "Applicants should not use AI assistants"
As someone for whom the answer is always 'money' I learned very quickly that a certain level of -how should I call it- bullshit is necessary to get the HR person to pass my CV to someone competent. As I am not as skilled in bullshit as I am in coding, it would make sense to outsource that irrelevant part of the selection process, no?
rapidaneurism··on Anthropic: "Applicants should not use AI assistants"

rapidaneurism··on The FizzBuzz that did not get me the job
the point of this exercise was (1) to weed out people who could not code at all, (2) have people fail after 7, so that they could low ball them to below 50k as they 'failed the test but they might deserve a chance'

rapidaneurism··on Mistake to take organs from a living person was averted, witnesses say
I would not class someone in a persistent vegetative state as brain dead. My understanding is that for organ harvesting to take place the subject has to be brain dead.

A sky burial achieves the same purpose. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_burial

At least if the dead person starts thrushing around while you cut them up they stop soon afterwards.

The son of the high ranking individual is appointed in a high position in some ministry. Anyone who cries nepotism is quickly reminded that he holds a prestigious western degree, and that is the reason for the appointment.
rapidaneurism··on US judge throws out FTC's ban on non-compete agreements
That is the point: suck it up with pay rises ever, and a toxic environment to boot, unless you want to starve or exit the industry.

Makes the -plantation- er I mean business owners very competitive.

My understanding of planned economies is that credit, investment, and profits are controlled by the state.

In any way starting a commercial enterprise would surely mark them as capitalist class traitors, wouldn't it?

rapidaneurism··on The UK can go back to being the richest country in the world
And yet the northern muppets went and voted a Torrie government back in 2019 that took the UK out of the EU, causing a significant damage to the economy in the form of lost GDP.

Something about bicycle front wheels and sticks, under the sound of tiny violins.

The shit trickles down. I foresee Saturday morning meetings for their direct reports, etc until everyone works 6 days, or signal themselves as disloyal non team players.
rapidaneurism··on Sweden has long opposed nuclear weapons, but once tried to build them
The whole point of nuclear weapons is that people don't attack you because you will use them.

So if they had them Russia would not have attacked.
