randomopining··on When To Do What You Love
Also sometimes when adults try to pull kids towards something, they may be trying to validate their own life choices and pathway. Just like a parent getting his kid into football, always remembering that he lost the playoff game.
randomopining··on Ask HN: What if civilization's growth rate exceeds it's natural evolution?
The solutions are usually only found through struggle and problems. Look at all the inventions and how fast things evolve when a society is under the ultimate external pressure -- direct warfare. Look at WW2. We got to fairly accurate missiles and fighter jets in a couple of years of WW2.
randomopining··on Ask HN: What if civilization's growth rate exceeds it's natural evolution?
Knowledge and societal changes are just an extension of evolution. Obviously the results of a large expansion are somewhere in the range of population 0 to a bit less than now.
randomopining··on Julian Assange has reached a plea deal with the U.S., allowing him to go free
So if a country has laws written by democratically elected bodies - and people break those laws, they shouldn't be imprisoned if the law calls for it?
randomopining··on Julian Assange has reached a plea deal with the U.S., allowing him to go free
Remember that a site like this only exists in the sphere of US hegemony. If we lived in NK, Russia, or China and debating decisions by the government... whelp that wouldn't exist there.

Wrong and right are not absolutes.

randomopining··on From prison to trenches: Inside Ukraine's attempt to turn inmates into soldiers
So the premise of your argument is that millions of Ukrainians across all swathes of their society have somehow been duped into a political stance, and then a huge war.

Do you realize how that makes no sense?

randomopining··on From prison to trenches: Inside Ukraine's attempt to turn inmates into soldiers
Why have they fought so hard against the Russians if they were "being used as fodder"?

Why does Russia get to decide what happens in another country, by using force and missiles etc?

Sounds like you're completely wrong.

randomopining··on Smoking weed every day makes me less presentable and less productive. I love it
Yup to reduce it down as succinctly as possible - it's an escape. It makes doing nothing enjoyable.
randomopining··on Fastest rate of natural carbon dioxide rise over the last 50k years
Ok so lets figure out our problems first and then move on. If we go too soon we'll bring all of our standard problems.
randomopining··on Fastest rate of natural carbon dioxide rise over the last 50k years
Yeah in a billion years. We should figure out the common issues (tragedy of commons, etc) that will follow us wherever we go -- before we try to leave. A billion years is plenty of time to focus on that.
randomopining··on Fastest rate of natural carbon dioxide rise over the last 50k years
You think leaving earth is the solution? The only place we've evolved to survive on.
randomopining··on US Says Chinese Seizure of TSMC in Taiwan Would Be 'Absolutely Devastating'
Most will probably come from non-major cities and towns so I doubt it will be a problem. CCP knows they can take stuff pretty far. Probably only food production and fossil fuels are their chokepoints.
randomopining··on What if null was an Object in Java?
Doesn't an Optional basically cover this case
randomopining··on What are the biggest questions you ask yourself?
Evolutionary part of the brain to always be looking for obstacles or issues with what's happening in the moment. Clearly humans who were more laissez faire, got eliminated either by nature or society.

Same here. Aerobic exercise, as a long exertion, probably activates some part of the brain that quells it.

randomopining··on Ask HN: Has anyone else stopped playing video games as an adult?
Tbh I just play FPS's like COD2/3 and Warzone because they keep the quick decision making and reflexes up. Only like 1hr at a time.

Sitting and playing some random story-type game for 50 hours seems like a complete waste of my time.

randomopining··on Oracle's Jump to Nashville Surprises Austin
Then force the peons back into the cubes, in order to keep CRE prices propped up.
randomopining··on Halo 2 in HD: Pushing the Original Xbox to the Limit
Why would you waste your time doing this?
randomopining··on Apple Readies M4 Chip Mac Line, Including New MacBook Air and Mac Pro
I think use cases stopped expanding.
randomopining··on Experienced engineers are struggling to get hired
Hmm ok. Because I know first hand that senior developers can get 220-300k easy. These aren't even owners or super niche. Just ~10yoe, and working on jira tickets nothinig wild.
randomopining··on Experienced engineers are struggling to get hired
So literally a few sentences that string together all the buzz words so that it gets picked up in automated systems? smart.
randomopining··on Berlin's techno scene added to Unesco intangible cultural heritage list
That last part - was trance/prog house always like that? Or did it start more underground and organic in 1989 onward until the mid-90s where it became very commercial and then went to the next level with someone like Tiesto?
randomopining··on Berlin's techno scene added to Unesco intangible cultural heritage list
It's pervasive in Berlin from what I see, understand, and have read about the 90's. Realistically it's not a pervasive fabric of even a place like Detroit. Most people in Detroit don't even know that techno is "from" there.
randomopining··on Berlin's techno scene added to Unesco intangible cultural heritage list
You both explained it very succinctly. I don't get why people have to grasp at depictions of history that simply aren't true. They want to believe that Jeff Mills and Belleville 3 somehow created this new music from nothing and inspired the entire world.
randomopining··on Berlin's techno scene added to Unesco intangible cultural heritage list
Did De School close because lack of interest? From what I've experienced (during ADE) and also heard, Amsterdam is very popular for all the techno sub-genres.
randomopining··on Experienced engineers are struggling to get hired
Not sure but I guess because that is the going rate now for a Senior Dev in a HCOL area like NYC.
randomopining··on Experienced engineers are struggling to get hired
No I believe for all standard app engineers in HCOL locations like NYC metro and SF metro. Top banks like GS I think are even a bit more. But WF etc are 200k-280k, confirmed.
randomopining··on Berlin's techno scene added to Unesco intangible cultural heritage list
ADE is wild. I don't think anything else compares.
randomopining··on Berlin's techno scene added to Unesco intangible cultural heritage list
Netherlands is top in Europe overall. Most Berlin people are migrating to Amsterdam.
randomopining··on Experienced engineers are struggling to get hired
Big banks easily pay 200-300k
