random567··on Academia, Love Me Back
part of the problem is public shaming

    > This morning, my professor handed me back a paper (a literature review) in front of my entire class and exclaimed “this is not your language.”
While it's reasonable to ask someone if they've plagiarized, asking that person about it in public in front of their classmates is mean-spirited.
random567··on Running containers without Docker
I don't get the differentiation between "rkt" and "docker". What complexity does Docker add? Separate networking? Difficulty communicating between processes?

Just trying to understand why rkt is less overhead...

random567··on Disney Open Source
What do you actually use Dragonchain for within Disney? Why does Disney need a blockchain platform?
random567··on Some bad Git situations and how I got myself out of them
The screwed up and committed to master should end with:

     git reset --hard origin/master
(assuming that the remote is called "origin") With the example in the text, you have to know the number of commits you've made to master.
random567··on Ask HN: How did you deal with depression?
how do you deal with being injured?

I've gotten really into running and enjoy the high, but right now I have an (unrelated) injury and can't run and I feel like I'm going stir crazy :(

random567··on How are you handling depression?
Are you exercising? I can't emphasize enough what a difference exercise makes. Try going for a run or at least work up a sweat somehow - I've found it's been an incredible support to my emotional well being.
random567··on Json vs. simplejson vs. ujson
ujson doesn't error out if you have a collection that isn't serializable so you can lose individual keys. It also has issues with ints and floats that are too big (just fails out)
random567··on Ask HN: Feeling pressured to accept startup job offer quickly
Don't take it (or at least treat it as an enormous red flag). Only companies in a position of weakness do this, which means there is something wrong with them. My first job I gave in to an exploding offer like that and it did not end well (though it taught me a ton because I got to be a rock star)

BUT - if you really think that you aren't a great programmer AND this job will give you the opportunity to level up your skills, then it could be worth it. (esp if your current job is not programming-related)

Otherwise, leave it in the dust - if you can get a job at 2 places (current job + this one), you can get a job at another place.
