ralgozino··on Ask HN: Which Linux terminal emulator do you prefer and why?
Kitty has layouts, but for terminals inside kitty's window, not DE level windows. There are some presets and you can define your own.
ralgozino··on Falling for Kubernetes
> How can I make a simple edit to /etc/hosts? Who knows?

In case somebody else needs to do this, you actually can:

https://kubernetes.io/docs/tasks/network/customize-hosts-fil...

But as you said, you are "not supposed to". I'd say that if you need to do that, most of the time there's an underlaying issue that needs to be fixed instead and consider editing the hosts file a workaround.

ralgozino··on What’s the strangest thing you ever found in a book?
Exams are for you to evaluate your progress, a professor doesn't give a flying duck about your grades, maybe only in the statical sense. You are only lying to yourself.
ralgozino··on Tabler: Free and open source dashboard HTML/CSS framework
Sorry, I'm from mobile and pressed send to soon. The point of the examples was to say that these frameworks provide you with the building blocks you need to create a webui without too much effort and with consistent (good) looks
ralgozino··on Tabler: Free and open source dashboard HTML/CSS framework
The way I see is that it is for the same reason that Qt and GTK include all the widgets and abstractions to create a complete UI.

Another framework that I've used in the past for 2 WebApps projects[1][2] -and I was quite happy with the result- is Semantic-UI (and the fomantic fork)[0]

I made something similar but I used macos' `say` command instead :)

Same here, what a royal PITA, personally I could migrate pretty easily, but the rest of the family that is not tech-savvy won't be a walk in the part.
ralgozino··on The enigmatic Portuguese R (2013)
It depends on what part of Argentina, Buenos Aires and Rioplatense accent use a strong rolled R, meanwhile in Cuyo region (center-western: Mendoza, San Juan, San Luis and La Rioja) it's pretty common a very different sound for the R, that's closer to an English 'sh' sound. I believe it is being lost though and younger people use the rolled R but not as strong as in Buenos Aires. There a lot more differences with the Rioplatense accent, like with the Y and LL. Accent from Mendoza and San Juan are much closer to Chile's than to Buenos Aires accent.

ralgozino··on Inventor builds Lego arm for eight-year-old
There's an Argentinian Startup (Atomic Lab[0]), founded by Gino Tubaro[1], that has been giving away fully 3D printed prothesis to childrens for several years now. It's a very cool project! sadly I can't find much information in English and their site is very minimal, but beleive what they do is awesome.

Here are some articles I found on them:

ralgozino··on Why can an ad break the Windows 11 desktop and taskbar?
I think that you have this impression because you are comparing the inside of a professional environment with the outside of others. I'm pretty sure that in inner circles of other professions they speak trash of others, but you don't see it from the outside, just like a random Joe won't never read HN whrrry devs speak trash of other devs
ralgozino··on Designing Aero Snap (2009)

I was thinking on Ruston, I really like it and it's a word play with "a ton of rust" :)

ralgozino··on Salesforce completes acquisition of Slack
I used to manage an on-prem Jira installation at $OLD_JOB, the amount of network traffic that the page to view an issue does is absurd. If you have a speedy connection or most of the page cached you won't notice, but switch to slower connections or a congested enterprise VPN and it's painfully slow. Open the browser's toolbox, disable the cache and reload. See for yourself.

ralgozino··on Hundreds of fishing vessels vanishing along Argentina’s waters
I can tell you about one thing that I didn't find mentioned. Argentina's Naval Prefecture is using a product called Galatea Watcher from Ascentio Technologies (they are the main contractor for Argentina's Space Agency and have developed the ground segment and done operations for them). This product does pretty much the same as in the article: it takes satellite imagery from several sources, does image processing and detection on them and cross-references it with AIS reports from vessels and alerts all the suspicious activity. One could see all the ships getting positioned just in the international border and then disappear by night. This is a well known issue.

Disclaimer: I used to work for Ascentio.

I think mailbrew[0] could be of your interest, it lets you add some sources and it will send you a periodic digest of them.

ralgozino··on Ask HN: Side projects that are making money, but you'd not talk about them?
I'm the only dev behind qr-tools, a python library to work with QR codes, and QtQR a GUI that uses the lib and let's you create and different types of QR codes and decode QR codes easily from images, the web or your webcam. Both projects are OpenSource and mainly targeted to Ubuntu users. I haven't been actively developing them, just some maintenance. They seem to have a pretty good use base but is hard to tell with this type of projects. I've never talk about it because is not a usual conversation topic, QR codes are not use that much where I'm from and less on the desktop.

Edit your sshd config and add useDNS: no to it, don't forget to restart the deamon.

Either way, I get your point, I remember programming in Delphi, compiling, chatting on IRC and browsing the net with a 56K Winmodem (all the modulation was software driven) with a Pentium 2 all at the same time, and now I can't even have and IDE and slack open at the same time.

ralgozino··on Show HN: End-to-end LTE example with Docker and emulated radio
Huawei's got a portable LTE Network that happens to be just for things like this. They call the technology eLTE (enterprise LTE) and the portable solution rapid eLTE. For backhaul you can use Fiber, Radio, Ethernet or Satellite, pretty much anything. the solution supports sending multimedia over the handys, voice, video, gps and data. They also offer a trunking solution over eLTE.

I've just clicked the link in my phone expecting a big "you can't use this on your phone, please use a proper computing device" message and instead I got a fully working Winamp. Color me impressed. Hats off top the developers.
