Hey HN, the maker here.

I built Prijm.com because I wanted something like a cross between Reddit and the simplicity of Hacker News, where you can follow tags like #OpenAI or #AI [1] the way you'd follow a subreddit, but ranking is based on favorites/comments rather than a hidden algorithm

Right now it has a very small user base and a few posts, so it's small and early.

One thing I'm actually proud of is the threaded, markdown commenting system. I put a lot of work into it. Unfortunetly, there isn't much discussion happening yet since the community is tiny, feel free to just try it out.

The notifications system only show up when you reload the page, no push yet.

I built this back in 2023, so it's mostly hand crafted, no coding agents involved (I did ask AI for advice here and there, but wrote and shipped it myself).

If you want to store password then use php password_hash function, otherwise all the data will be stored as plaintext JSON files. We don't have any data encryption implemented yet.

Glad you liked it! Totally agree with you on that! Yes, I am using it in production for a company. Few are just landing pages with simple admin interface to update data on the fly.

You are correct, it is suitable for small-medium traffic websites with less write operations and more read operations. We have a simple file locking mechanism to handle this situation. The caching part makes it a static storage by combining multiple files per query.

Cloning an existing open source project and rebranding it is a shame, let's not establish this culture please. Or is that Postwoman has renamed to Hoppscotch?

In my knowledge there are a lot of effort in using the system webview to make a hybrid app but non of them I have found is as descent as deskgap. Very nicely done indeed. Although according to the author its still Work in Progress.

Quora is more like ask.com's old q&a site where they basically scrape yahoo answers for new questions and filter them. The difference is that quora has real people/voluntiar who is technically writing answers of those yahoo answers questions for quora and old ask.com used to use dumb serp results. They are printing money now

Yes SleekDB will read every JSON files on each query, but by default it utilizes the built-in cache feature that basically caches the result of a query. Once it caches a query, from the next time it will read only one file for that same query unless we update or write anything new there!

But somewhere i need to store the data, this could a flat-file or could be a series of BSON files on disk.

For the purpose of this database and technology being used, JSON file seems to work just fine. I hope you get the point.
