Also you may not end up in one of those "cool" projects either even if you land on a FANG job.

Ok, that makes sense.

That's an odd analogy knowing USA went into a bloody civil war to fix that.

You're comparing a broken system with an older and even more broken system that we already fixed and trying to find merit in current broken system by that comparison. Of course it's better to be alive than being squashed by a dinosaur. But how's that relevant?

rak00n··on A Humility Training Exercise for Technical Interviewers
Problem with your approach is in order to make sure your made up problem isn't banned you have to go through all the banned question everytime you ask your question. That's a lot of unnecessary toil.

On the other hand software engineering job in US pays a lot so you can do a (relatively) quicker home run to financial independence if you don't fall into consumerism.

Why didn't Microsoft partake in any of these ideas then? Smartphone came out 8 years later in 2007.
rak00n··on How to Be Successful
You're defining success in non-scalable terms. Sure, not everyone can be millionaire but what if just being "financially solvent" is considered a success? What if maximizing financially solvent people is a definition of success for a society?

What I described is the same thing in layman's term. Worst case is the colloquial word for upper bound. And in that example n was approaching 1000.

If you want to be puritan the only fault I see in my definition is instead of using a generic function I assumed it's linear function - but that's for explaining the colloquial use.

If a country's birthrate is low and it needs immigrants to fill in the gap in workforce that low birthrate is creating, it's essentially replacing those people over time.

Since your German I'd urge you to read the book Strange Death of Europe. Assimilation isn't an easy process and mass migration in this scale is indeed a new thing.

How's that a feature when you're replacing your relatively highly educated set of people who assimilate culturally with people from poorer countries with lesser education and who don't culturally assimilate?

Of course it's a feature for these poor people who now can get a chance to live a better life. But is that ideal for a developed host country?

I have seen it getting used in many places and it's understood as order of. O(n) means at worst case number of steps needed to complete an algorithm would be c.n + a. So it is completely valid use since O(1000) would mean it can be c.1000 + a, which actually means order of 1000s.

I think that saying is only true when you know that company and its prospects very well. The question to ask here is will Facebook continue to be the ad-money tree it is right now?
