rahilsondhi··on The Invisible Catastrophe: Record Methane Leak in CA
Methane == climate change.

> Pound for pound, the comparative impact of CH4 on climate change is more than 25 times greater than CO2 over a 100-year period.

https://www3.epa.gov/climatechange/ghgemissions/gases/ch4.ht...

This is heavily discussed in a documentary I watched recently, "Cowspiracy."

rahilsondhi··on Why can’t we read anymore?
I wanted to read this post, but it was too long and I moved on to something else.

rahilsondhi··on Spotify Now Has 15M Paying Users, 60M Overall
Shameless plug: I'm a paying Spotify user but they don't get hiphop mixtapes and they miss some hiphop singles, so I built http://hooked.fm. It's new hiphop music and notifications when your favorite artists release new music.
rahilsondhi··on Ask HN: What new or hot technology do you recommend learning?
Algorithms are definitely asked for in interviews at every company except small startups.
rahilsondhi··on ChartSQL: Create Charts and Dashboards from SQL
At InternMatch.com, we use Geckoboard - it pings our Rails app periodically for stats. Our Rails app uses this gem to expose endpoints to Geckoboard: https://github.com/ejdraper/chameleon

We do a bunch of other cool stuff too for stats. I'd be happy to help you if you ping me :)

rahilsondhi··on Deis v1.0 – Production Ready
I'm really struggling to understand what this is. I've looked at it a few times and never really get a good grip on what it is.

Also, how does it fit in with Ansible?

rahilsondhi··on Amazon Cloud Drive: Prime Photos
Amazon tries so hard to add more Prime benefits to get me to sign up for Prime, but I just don't care about any of them.

Google Shopping Express is faster than Amazon, and that's the only Prime benefit I care about. For movies, Netflix is better. For music, all any other streaming service is better. For Prime Lending Club, too few books are actually available for lending to make it a worthy benefit. And now for photos, Google Photos is a better product.

rahilsondhi··on Show HN: A database for browsing and discovering movies
Login with Twitter doesn't work. After authorizing on Twitter.com, the "Please sign in" modal just stays there.
rahilsondhi··on Thoughts on Startup School
Finding useful connections is hard at these big events. You're basically shooting darts in the dark. There was a "speed networking" section at the intermission that was pretty efficient.

Wouldn't it be cool if there was an event where people have 60 seconds to pitch what they're looking for, and if you're looking for the same thing, go talk to them after all the pitches?

I'm trying to publish my post and it keeps saying "RuntimeError: Failed to send emails: self signed certificate"
rahilsondhi··on Nexus 6
For those looking who were looking for a new Android and disappointed by this release, have you considered the Galaxy Alpha? http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_alpha-6573.php
rahilsondhi··on Show HN: Trade – A mobile web app for trading stocks with virtual currency
It looks really nice. Can you talk about the technologies you used to build it?

This is fantastic. Thank you!

Don't worry Oleg. Jobs got ousted from Apple at one point too...
rahilsondhi··on Traction Book – A Startup Guide to Getting Customers
Argh, how do you tell? I just paid $9.99 for the Kindle version and I have Prime.

EDIT: I see Lending: Enabled under Product Details.

Perhaps the market for Classical music isn't big? NBD to me...
rahilsondhi··on Ask HN: Looking for feedback on my side project
Here's my contribution: I looked at the landing page for 5-10 seconds and I couldn't quite figure out what the product does. What is a "template" in your product's context? I understand "HTML to PDF" or maybe even "JSON to PDF", but what is "template" to PDF?

EDIT: Okay I see on your site a template is a "LibreOffice/OpenOffice document." I have no idea what that is. Maybe I'm just not your target audience?

rahilsondhi··on RubyMotion 3.0 Sneak Peek: Android Support
Very nice, thanks!
rahilsondhi··on RubyMotion 3.0 Sneak Peek: Android Support
Are mobile apps written with RubyMotion on par with the native equivalent? For example, I've heard a lot of people dislike PhoneGap, AppAccelerator, etc because the final app isn't as polished as something that is built natively.
rahilsondhi··on Nginx 1.7.1 adds syslog support
Thanks, I'll try that.

Can I reach you privately? I need help with my ELK set up :/
rahilsondhi··on HipChat is now free for unlimited users
That's great HipChat. Now can you do emoji autocomplete?
rahilsondhi··on Ask HN: Idea Sunday
This sounds pretty out of scope for what I'm thinking of.

I'm trying to solve the problem of people sharing data within an organization. I'm not trying to make a social community of database engineers.

Cool idea though! Feel free to contact me if you'd like to chat more.

rahilsondhi··on Ask HN: Idea Sunday
A website for employees in a company to share SQL queries and their results, like Heroku Dataclips. You can write your query in your browser, the results will be shown, and you can just copy/paste the URL to a coworker for him/her to see the results.

I'm already working on this, contact me if you're interested!
