And on anecdotal evidence, I've observed that people who use git intensively everyday often have aliases to these commands that have a low probability of typos.
eg gcom => git commit
It does the job (and some more nice features) pretty well.
$ cat ~/.bash_profile | grep git
alias gco="git checkout"
alias gpu="git pull"
alias gcom="git commit"
alias gfr="git fetch && git rebase -i"
alias g="git"
