radycov··on Ask HN: How do you focus on work for long periods of time?
Can I strong second a good pair of noise cancelling headphones. I used the Sony WH 1000 XM3 and now use the the Sony wf 1000xm4 since the latter is in-ear and easier to carry around. The noise cancellation is phenomenal. Pair this with a mindfulness playlist from a variety of composers and your senses will be detached from distractions around you.
radycov··on Half of US population exposed to adverse lead levels in early childhood
Well that explains a lot. Seriously though, for a wealthy first world nation the levels intellectual rational debate in America is generally pretty shockingly poor.

radycov··on Turkey's Financial Crisis
>> Acknowledging religion as something that deserves any sort of deference by the State isn't acceptable.

What next, enforce a communist uniform on everyone and strictly control their freedom to express their thoughts? Do you realise how ludicrous you sound? I note you're French and your religious expressions laws are not made in the name of secularism, rather specifically intended to discriminate against a sizeable minority.

Presumably your also include a Christian Cross necklace? What about a symmetric cross that's visibly a cross but not a traditional cross? A cross at an angle?

You're entitled to express your point of view, of course, but please be more convincing and informed than a nationalistically ideological charlatan (how ironic).

radycov··on Inequality, Interest Rates, Aging, and the Role of Central Banks
You're arguing either in bad faith or completely devoid of reality. Lower mortgage rates allow existing property owners to pay off cheap houses and further expand portfolios, affecting supply. Meanwhile, zero property owners need to amass increasingly large deposit/downpayment as banks limit lending to a salary multiplier. This is really basic stuff.
radycov··on Ford targeted older salaried employees during 2019 layoffs
Personally (early 30s) this stresses me out almost every day. Just the anxiety of knowing in 10 years time I will be on the chopping block daily, regardless of how good I am. And frankly my generation has ridiculous education and housing debt so we're going to have it a lot worse than you - sorry to use the obligatory term - boomers.
radycov··on Israel tries to limit fallout from the Pegasus spyware scandal
No chance, AIPAC, BICOM and various lobby groups ensure politicians are in the pockets of the Israel lobby. This isn't to say other countries don't have corrupt lobbying practices. But the unilateral multibillion dollar IDF funding raies questions.
radycov··on London’s Crossrail Is a $21B Test of Virtual Modeling (2016)
What churlish asinine myopia. Plenty of people affected by life changing disruption to their living conditions and communities. Seveal years of putting your life on hold is a big deal.
radycov··on Israeli military search team helped recover majority of Surfside victims
Maybe stop stealing land and attacking worshippers on the Temple Mount? Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan speak for themselves. Rockets don't just come out of nowhere for a recreational activity.
radycov··on Israeli military search team helped recover majority of Surfside victims
When even AP wouldn't dare criticise Israel for destroying its building in Gaza, it's clear there's a need for a counter narrative to the one sided propaganda. And the one Jewish woman who dared to open her mouth was immediately fired: https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Emily-Wilder-Associa...
radycov··on Israeli military search team helped recover majority of Surfside victims
Ironically, by your own admission, you simply highlighted Israel's infrastructure control on Gaza. So it's not merely a military occupier but controls food, water and electricity supplies to the imprisoned population. But hey, thanks for your generosity to allow a trickle of aid supplies through.

"Transfers of fuel for the power plant were stopped by Israel during the Gaza War in May 2021 and resumed by the end of June."

radycov··on Israeli military search team helped recover majority of Surfside victims
Sure, how about I drop a 30 second "door knock" before I blow your life to smithereens because I feel like your 10 story building might be hiding a few kalashnikovs? Feel free to evacuate to the few hundred meters of free space in the world's largest open air prison. The simple fact is: this is colonialist ethnic cleansing and the only reason it goes unchecked is because of historic Western guilt uncritically favouring the Israeli state for geopolitical reasons.
radycov··on Israeli military search team helped recover majority of Surfside victims
No mention of ethnic cleansing and military checkpoint enforced apartheid where kids are harassed by fully armed soldiers? Do you want to see the B'TSelem videos? Here they detail a 5 year old child: https://www.btselem.org/press_releases/20130711_soldiers_det...

Or "1 shot 2 kills" military tshirts for killing pregnant Palestnian women? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7960071.stm

radycov··on The U.S. set off a nuclear bomb in space in 1962
This comment struck me as hilariously American. "We". "The bad guys".
radycov··on Netanyahu is out as new Israeli government survives confidence vote
Completely true, Rwanda (details suppressed by courts), Bosnian massacre... you name it.
radycov··on Netanyahu is out as new Israeli government survives confidence vote
Pro Israel lobbies heavily influence American Congress. Israel receives a disproportionately unique generous backing on all fronts by Western governments, therefore they deserve extra scrutiny and should be held to account above rogue foreign regimes.
radycov··on Cyber Attack on Iran's Nuclear Facility
I'm really glad you mentioned innocent US citizens. Have you heard of Rachel Corrie murdered by the IDF?
radycov··on Cyber Attack on Iran's Nuclear Facility
And thus we are in agreement: collateral damage is incidental to achieving a strategic goal.
radycov··on Cyber Attack on Iran's Nuclear Facility
You mean like the murder of American Rachel Corrie by the IDF which was ruled an "accident" absolving it of all responsibility?
radycov··on Cyber Attack on Iran's Nuclear Facility
It might be laughable to you, but perhaps you lack the perspective of random genetic luck to be born in an occupied land.
radycov··on Israel’s lucrative and secretive cybersurveillance industry
The only ethnic cleansing genocide is against the Palestinians who have their land and sea borders occupied, patrolled and militarily enforced at checkpoints. Try that with me, and I certainly will revolt violently. No offense, but these are plain accurate facts and common sense.
radycov··on Iran's supreme leader tweets attack threat to golfing Trump
Who told the US to setup bases in the middle east? It's not your land, get fucked.
radycov··on Iran's supreme leader tweets attack threat to golfing Trump
Of course the only aggressor nation that has actually killed an Iranian military leader is the USA - an act of war. So try looking closer at home before taking offense on twitter.
radycov··on Villarejo: The rise and fall of the Spanish state’s secret fixer
That's not how the old BBC works. PG's submarine applies to the BBC as well, no doubt, as well as foreign lobby groups.
radycov··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
Large swathes of the target population are run by dictators funded by America's geopolitical strategic initiatives. We are agreed in some sense: religion is a unifying cause which leads to irrational tribalism. The point is these are societies that have constantly been interfered with due to western military adventures and it's quite easy to unify a rallying cause. Not least in immigrant populations resident in the West, such as myself.
radycov··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
>> And I stress how cultural it is: it is often noted that in Japan religion is not treated as such a tribe, culturally, and that Japanese persons often find it curious how residents of other cultures can owe a lifelong fealty to a single religion rather than experiencing elements of multiple religions as it be suitable.

You seem to conveniently ignore the blindingly simple context that for the past 20 years, America has been bombing and invading a single region of the world in the name of evangelical fanatics from the bible belt.

And that's looking past the Gulf Wars and Afghanistan where America created and armed the Taliban. It's not snowflake grievance culture to suggest there is a targetted religion here.

radycov··on How a British Covid-19 vaccine went from pole position to troubled start
Anecdotally, since March I have been travelling on public transport and going into crowded central city locations almost on a daily basis, yet appear to have (extremely fortunately) avoided infection. This includes over the past few weeks with new highly infections mutations.

Equally anecdotally, I know of several friends who have caught it from young children in school settings or crowded groups.

radycov··on How a British Covid-19 vaccine went from pole position to troubled start
A question I rarely see addressed during double-blind placebo studies is: how do you ensure both groups encounter the same virus exposure during the study period?

Is it simply safe to assume nearly equal "average exposure" over say 90 days randomly, or are all participants encouraged to follow identical lifestyles.
