So... Germany DOES have a life sentence. Kinda misleading to state it doesn't.

Can you show me more info or the offending code?
What makes this any different?
You're mixing privacy and anonymity. Signal offers privacy from snooping, they have never claimed or tried to provide anonymity. Two very different use cases.
This is not a signal issue. Literally every single app that gets user input from a keyboard suffers from this issue. Saying this is a signal issue is like saying flat tires are a ford issue.
> >free and open source > Want to also point out that months go by without server code being published:
Is there some unwritten rule that a open source project must publish code every x days to be considered open source? All of signals code has always been open source and always will be.
> Also, when users protested reliance on Google's store, analytics
Analytics? Care to show me where they ever used them? 99% sure they have never used them.
> Moxie chose to attack the forks
It takes a lot of money and man hours to maintain the servers and infrastructure for signal, why should OWS pay for other projects to use it? Signal is 100% open source, if someone thinks they can create a better replacement... They are free to take all of signals code and make their own app. But don't expect OWS to pay for the infrastructure and let them leech.
Yup. Check out aurora store. It's a open source frontend to the google play store. All apps can be installed(except of course paid apps. Though if you bought the app and sign in to the account with aurora you can)
Signal is all about privacy. It trumps everything else. There are no "mainstream" payment options that align with their privacy requirements.
It's not a 1:1 comparison. They both want to achieve the same goal(payment integration) buy have vastly different requirements.
There is 0 evidence signal is diverging from being a secure messaging app. Are they adding non-chat related features? Yes. Are they making their app any less of a secure chat platform? Absolutely not.

You absolutely can be charged with "armed robbery" without having a firearm. Using your bank example, here is a "armed bank robbery" where the suspect used a knife. https://mpdc.dc.gov/release/arrest-made-armed-bank-robbery-k...
Educate yourself if you are going to argue.
It's not signals job to secure 3rd party software, that's entirely on the 3rd party.
In computer forensics it's ALL about being able to verify, without a shadow of doubt that something is what they say it is. Chain of custody rules everything. This blasts a huge gaping hole in all that. He's proven that chain of custody can be tampered with and undetected. Files can be planted, altered or erased. Reports can altered. Timestamps can be changed. The host OS can be exploited. It calls all past and future cellbrite reports into question. Cellbrite can no longer guaranty their software acts in a consistent reliable verifiable way. It leaves doubt.
Except he is NOT right and we DO know. The election was NOT rigged or stolen from him. He lost. Plain and simple.
Is there some law that states a project must publish X code changes in Y timespan?
What exactly do they rely on google for? They use them for their push notifications and they use some google servers on the back end.
They do offer the app on the app store as 99% of android users get their apps that way, but signal also offers app downloads from the signal website if the user doesn't want to use play store.
They literally chose a zero server trust model when designing the protocol. NSA could be running modified signal servers and it wouldn't make a difference. Your messages would still be safe since all the magic happens on the clients. The servers just route the encrypted data, it's all just 1's and 0's to them.
> And there, openness about the code at least gives a few hints about what is going on there, enabling me to trust at least a little more than not-at-all.
Do we even know if signal was running updated server code in production? Maybe they have been running the same code that was on github this whole time.
However, signal won't (and had not obligation to) provide your forks infrastructure. It costs money and time to maintain servers and they don't want 3rd party projects leeching their resources.
Again, your free to take their open source code and modify it and stand up your own infrastructure. If you do, you'll end up with your own chat service.
