r053bud··on AI and the Destruction of the Creative Commons
None of your arguments hold any water if big-corpo AI restricts open-weight models - which they very clearly want to do. AI is NOT “the best thing that ever happened to the Free Software world” if our only option is to pay a select few companies to use it.
r053bud··on LibreOffice breaks download records after declaring it has no AI features
I really appreciate this comment since it very effectively communicates how I feel about the subject, since I have been struggling with putting it into such clear language.
r053bud··on LibreOffice breaks download records after declaring it has no AI features
You’re wrong. Despite its usefulness in our profession, AI is deeply unpopular with the general public and products that don’t include it are rapidly gaining in popularity. People are tired of AI being shoved down their throats without consent.
r053bud··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
They have.

Perhaps that is what you are wishing for, but it’s not the reality.
r053bud··on PlayStation can delete all your digital games after 3 years of inactivity (EU)
This is categorically untrue. In addition to the games listed below, they are actively developing "Deadlock" which is a pretty rad game in my opinion.
r053bud··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
It will be reversed after Trump makes some “deal” with Anthropic. I’ll put money on Taco Tuesday.

Barbed hooks are not allowed most of the time anymore.
r053bud··on Olympic Committee bars transgender athletes from women’s events
Walk me through how you think this is going to be enforced? Athletes will need to start dropping their pants? Disgusting invasion of privacy.

“The Ray Tracer Challenge” by Jamis Buck is really good as well

I’ll HAPPILY bet that it won’t. $10,000 to a charity of each other’s choosing?
r053bud··on Claude Code weekly rate limits
The $20/month plan most definitely does include Opus. Just not a ton of usage allowed.

What does that even mean?

r053bud··on NYPD bypassed facial recognition ban to ID pro-Palestinian student protester
The US actively supports Israel financially and militaristically. That's the difference. Those are my tax dollars killing innocent children over there in Gaza.
r053bud··on Oakland cops gave ICE license plate data; SFPD also illegally shared with feds
But, but, but, "I have nothing to hide.........."
r053bud··on Waymo rides cost more than Uber or Lyft and people are paying anyway
This is the second time your story is changing.
r053bud··on As a developer, my most important tools are a pen and a notebook
I’ve definitely fixed more bugs with pen/paper than a debugger.
r053bud··on Perverse incentives of vibe coding
I fear that’s going to end up being a significant portion of engineers in the future.
r053bud··on I failed a take-home assignment from Kagi Search
I just can’t get past the fact that he didn’t even deliver on the core deliverable of “ The project is to build a minimal, terminal-inspired email client”. Nothing about the demo I watched on YouTube looked “terminal-inspired”
r053bud··on US Copyright Office found AI companies breach copyright. Its boss was fired
It’s barely facetious though. What is stopping me from “starting an AI company” (LLC, sure), torrenting all ebooks (which Facebook did), and as long as I don’t seed, I’m golden?
r053bud··on Burrito Now, Pay Later
Yes. That’s literally the economic system we have agreed upon in the United States States and continue to vote for.

Better yet, let’s just add LLM summaries of all articles and links on Hacker News directly. Now I never have to read the linked article.

No, China doesn’t need us at all. They are going to come out of this without a scratch. Everyone is getting this equation wrong.

r053bud··on Employees are bypassing HR, sharing on LinkedIn
Remind me which company you work for? I’m going to avoid it at all costs if it hires people like you.
r053bud··on Employees are bypassing HR, sharing on LinkedIn
HR are literally corporate cops. They are never on your side, next thing you know you, are not a good “cultural fit” for complaining. I’ve never once brought an issue to HR.
