What’s the „euro idea“ of work life balance?
quietfox··on German Rheinmetall open-sources its Battlesuite connected weapon system protcol
Having completed our company’s ISO 27001 recertification process recently, this one really hits home with me.
quietfox··on Show HN: I made a flight simulator, except you're just a passenger
That’s a nice idea. Taking off from Frankfurt am Main felt like that ultra long runway in Fast & Furious 6 though.
quietfox··on LinkedIn CringeBot 3000
Just like LinkedIn, this is not working as intended, so it’s spot on. (… getting the Oops-error).
quietfox··on Tl;dv: Over 180k meetings left wide open
Funny enough, there is a news story in which the same CEO that didn't care about the breach for 6 months told USA Today 'that European tech needs to be “bold but secure” to win the enterprise AI race'.

I wonder how the HN algo chose this one link to Bobs blogpost to be the one to hit the front page. This story was committed three more times by three different users, 6 days ago (16 points), 4 days ago (11 points) and another one 4 days ago, again with 16 points.
quietfox··on Show HN: What should the GUI for AI agents look like?
A quick FYI: at marbles.com/learn, starting from „Turn Messy Notes into Today’s Task List“ the demo videos don’t work for me. I tried Safari and Chrome.
quietfox··on 'VPNs are lawful technical tools,' says EU Court in landmark copyright ruling
This is going to get some interesting responses by people commenting immediately after only reading the first paragraph.
quietfox··on GigaToken: ~1000x faster Language model tokenization
‘I run an AI platform’ I have so many genuine questions I don’t even know where to start.
quietfox··on Flock Credibility Lost as It Repeatedly Lies to City Councils, Police, & Public
TIL about imginn.com Thanks, that’s really helpful!
quietfox··on Building Food Metadata with LLM Juries
I am taking from their hero image that something like a gluten allergy would have to be verified by the merchant, but I’m just guessing that’s true. Feeding failure cases into an AI-led prompt tuning agent to solve them seems prone to a lot of problems though.
quietfox··on QuadRF can spot drones and see WiFi through my wall
Glad I’m not the only one. I’ve been tinkering with sensors, robotics, sdr and similar stuff for 20 years now, but this conversation was way over my head.
quietfox··on Show HN: Reviving my 2001 college band with AI
As a first reaction, I loved the idea, since I have had a handful of bands in my life and really loved how you revived (or aimed to revive) the old days with modern tools. I really liked the web design and nostalgia of the old photos combined with the possibilities of new technology. Then I hit play. AI sucked the soul out of your music. I am happy for you if you liked the results. But for me, each of the comparisons proved me right to loathe AI music.
quietfox··on Home made GPU escalated quickly [video]
The determination to pull through a project of this scale is mind blowing and the joy is contagious.
quietfox··on U.S. allows Anthropic to release Mythos AI to ‘trusted’ US organizations
Comparing AI models with missiles is a far fetch as long as citizenship is the single qualifier used to decide who’s allowed to be a customer. This is not a security related policy, it’s about strategically controlled economic power.
quietfox··on Leaked OpenAI financials show $38.5B loss and compute burn
I’ve always been wondering how they are actually planning this scenario. If they cut human labor on a massive scale due to AI, consumption is about to drop heavily. AI doesn’t pay healthcare insurance or taxes, it doesn’t buy groceries or cars or gas and it doesn’t rent apartments. How do people imagine to compensate that?
quietfox··on I’ve built a virtual museum with nearly every operating system you can think of
Oh this is that this was called. A long time ago, like in Googles earlier stages, I tried so hard to find this from my memory, but I failed and over the years forgot about it. Thanks for bringing it up again.
quietfox··on Google de-indexed Bear Blog and I don't know why
I'll be honest, I read "Google de-indexed my Bear Blog" and was looking forward to discovering an interesting blog about bears.
quietfox··on The Walt Disney Company and OpenAI Partner on Sora
That's interesting. I think besides the hard facts (like numnber of possible tokens before throtteling happens) the perceived quality differs from use case to use case. In that sense, ChatGPT is my daily driver, in terms of helping with coding problems or debugging Claude feels far superior to me. And when it comes to ideation and creativity (product idea validation, etc.) Gemini surpasses both of the other in my opinion.
quietfox··on Roc Camera
I really need to get back to that mindset. I keep catching myself unconsciously checking my hobbies and abilities for marketability. I've been playing guitar for almost three decades, one of them spent in a touring metal band. When I started, I used to enjoy making music so much that I played and composed so often an album would just come together naturally. And then another one and another one, I just couldn't stop. These days, I no longer sit down to play just for myself and the moment — instead, I catch myself thinking, “Can I sell sample packs from this? Record a course? Should I code a VST plugin for it and sell that?” And after weeks of moments like this, all I have are three random riffs and frustration.
quietfox··on Slack has raised our charges by $195k per year
I'm a Discord user myself, in private as well in job context. But we all have been here long enough to know that the only reliable constant is change.
quietfox··on Show HN: The text disappears when you screenshot it
"The text disappears..." And my eyesight with it

Let's revisit this assessment in a few years.
quietfox··on DOOMscrolling: The Game
Wow, that was stressful, good job!

It worked for me in Safari for a while, but then the entire browser stopped working.
quietfox··on Ask HN: Why does the US Visa application website do a port-scan of my network?
It seems to try to check if you are using the Burp Suite on their web application.
quietfox··on Show HN: I made an online financial modeling platform for stocks
Congratulations on launching your first product. Which stock markets does it cover? I wasn't able to look up BMW or adidas for example.
quietfox··on Just got doxxed to within 15 miles by a vision model, from only a single photo
Scalability and ease of use are the scary factors here. The barriers to getting involved with geoguessing were certainly a threshold for some people with bad intentions. These have now been removed or are considerably lower.
quietfox··on Just got doxxed to within 15 miles by a vision model, from only a single photo
Investigative journalism like the OSINT based researches conducted by bellingcat would be one example, as long as the AI results get doublechecked for accuracy.
quietfox··on AltStore. The first Apple approved alternative App Store
I subscribed some days ago, but still can’t get the download to work, even in Safari as suggested.
