qroshan··on Beating Google ReCaptcha and the funCaptcha using AWS Rekognition
The problem with that is, the video can only be watched at it's true raw form. Any edits will need to be re-signed with "Edited by X". Now, X has to be trusted and not compromised (by money, bias or hacks).

If X is CNN, then half the population will not believe it. If X is Fox, the other half won't believe. Bottomline, the world will be truly living in virtual alternative universes and it doesn't even matter what truth is as long as everyone in that world believe that.

qroshan··on Build Software from Front-to-Back
the linux command UI (for actions/services) and spreadsheet UI (for data) are the best interfaces that have lasted for over 40 years.

Anything else is ephermal.

History is littered with millions of enterprise software that can't beat the simplicity of a spreadsheet or the flexibility and efficiency of a unix command line

qroshan··on Senate narrowly rejects plan to require a warrant for Americans’ browsing data
How is it strange? It is completely consistent with "My way or the highway, No Compromise attitude"
qroshan··on Twitter Will Allow Employees to Work at Home Forever
Dude in SF is more likely to bump into other dudes in SF and talk about system design, math or AI or competition or best practices or stacks.

Dude in Indiana doesn't have that opportunity. You'd say but Internet, but things like motivation, inspiration, innovation comes from a certain external factors (which we still haven't figured out).

That's why even with massive internet penetration, it's the tech hubs that keep pumping winners and hits

qroshan··on Ring Doorbell App Packed with Third-Party Trackers
Actually not much happened to people who got exposed in the Ashley Madison breach, or Equifax or Facebook or Target..

This is just manufactured outrage and fear-mongering.

The biggest threat to humans are still social phishing and social scams, which has led to 1000x financial loses and other reputation loses.

qroshan··on America’s aggressive use of sanctions endangers the dollar’s reign
Ha Ha mises.org. What a joke! An institution which has been wrong about everything for the past 100 years is predicting a dollar cash? What a surprise!
qroshan··on Why so many things cost exactly zero
So a 'centralized' place which aggregates all your transactions, right? Why can't this centralized place use credit cards then?

Decentralization is for clueless idiots who doesn't understand Decentralization or everything is a trade-off concept

qroshan··on Volkswagen exec admits full self-driving cars 'may never happen'
Except you can always install sensors that can look as far as you want
qroshan··on Volkswagen exec admits full self-driving cars 'may never happen'
This is garbage analysis.

When you are comparing numbers. You compare like-to-like. Tesla specifically prohibits engaging Autopilot in difficult situations and encourages during long boring straight drives.

qroshan··on Letting slower passengers board airplane first is faster, study finds
Yeah, tall people complaining about anything is like Rich people complaining about stuff. You won the genetic lottery, just deal with a couple of minor yearly inconveniences when you can enjoy life's other benefits. (Better choice of partners, Higher Pay and Raises, Faster career growth)
qroshan··on Alphabet’s Chief Legal Officer Stepping Down Amid Investigation
Steve Jobs also abandoned his kid. He created a $1 Trillion company.
qroshan··on Google Buys Fitbit for $2.1B
Ummm. Fitbit was already on the downward spiral. So, they'll take this lifeline from Google. Thank you very much
qroshan··on Is Stack Exchange in violation of NY labor law by using volunteer moderators?
Just like programming.

An operating system provide a few set of basic services to applications, but the linux kernel is some gazillion lines of code, because it has to work with reality

qroshan··on Alphabet Announces Third Quarter 2019 Results
At the end of the day, all software engineers are moving, transforming and persisting bits.

Languages abstract bits to types. But, there is no universal langauge for storage, retreival, front-end rendering and middle-layer logic, so engineers have to fall back to sort of thinking in bits again as they interact with various systems.

Protos are Google's fairly successful attempt at raising the abstraction level to object / document so that programmers can store, retrieve, transform objects at all layers.

qroshan··on My company sold for $100M and I got zilch – how can that be?
You'll almost never get preferred shares unless you at C-level or put your own money.

The only thing you negotiate is more salary in cash and assume your options are just lottery tickets with very high odds

qroshan··on My company sold for $100M and I got zilch – how can that be?
Employees that are paid common stock didn't put any money. They are also paid decent salary. It is like playing a lottery, but only with opportunity cost. Not sure what needs to be protected here.
qroshan··on My company sold for $100M and I got zilch – how can that be?
The author who has probably done these deals probably knows the most common occurrence and went with it?
qroshan··on Google T5 scores 88.9 on SuperGLUE Benchmark, approaching human baseline
I landed this job
qroshan··on Google chief: I'd disclose smart speakers before guests enter my home
"The reason is "people" lack education in technology"

This is a dumb statement. Lots of tech people use all of these devices. In fact smart tech people differentiate between machine listening and humans listening.

A Math, Tech person know that the probability of a human listening to my recording is close 0.000001%.

Humans, including yourself, make far worse decisions every day in your life that have much higher detrimental effect to your overall quality of life than worrying about stupid things

qroshan··on Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index
Indeed.

Cost of running this public tamper-proof database is $4B + Personnel + Amortizing cost of ASIC Forms, Say $6B

Where does the money come from? This Database isn't selling any service to Enterprise or Government or Public to get revenue. So, the $6B money has to come from Bitcoin holders or new suckers.

Every year it has to get $6B new money just to maintain the current value of Bitcoin.

qroshan··on Pricing niche products
Great professionals (cooks, photographers) will definitely benefit from high-end tools because you get higher control (over craftsmanship), improved productivity etc.

For a keyboard, the signal delivered to the computer (the thing that really matters) is the same. It's the same freaking 'A' that gets delivered whether you type in a $1 keyboard or the $2000 keyboard. Most prolific writers or software programmers (for whom the keyboard really matters) produce amazing and impactful artifacts with regular keyboards.

qroshan··on Facebook, WhatsApp Will Have to Share Messages With U.K.?
Thanks for this nuance answer. Unfortunately, "Nuance" will always lose to "Pitchfork", even in supposedly smart and intelligent communities like HN.

There are ZERO people from the pitchfork community who understands the pressure of working in keeping a community, region or country safe. If there is a terrorist attack, the pitchfork people have to answer to ZERO questions, while CIA/NSA/Police will have to answer 'Why didn't you do something".

It is so easy to sit in their comfortable offices and homes and philosophize about privacy when you have no skin in the game.

qroshan··on Facebook, WhatsApp Will Have to Share Messages With U.K.?
Not all politicians have equal power. In the US, the nominations of important positions, the laws and policies are determined by 20 Senators in GOP.

Those 20 senators (from Alaska, Missouri, Arkansas) are answerable to the demands of their constituents. Those people are not asking for Climate Change Policies. It has nothing to do with money, but the values and culture of the constituents.

It is incredible how HN and majority of the supposedly 'smart' crowd completely fail to understand the dynamics of how policies and laws are passed or made in this country or anywhere else.

It is also incredibly stupid to paint all politicians with the same brush, because if you are an immoral, evil politician you'd exactly want that situation. "All politicians are the same", "All media is the same" is the foundational strategy of bad actors.

qroshan··on Programming Idioms
or the first idiom that I fell in love with

while (dest++ = src++)

I'm sure I've botched it (but I will not google that)

qroshan··on Tesla Software Version 10.0
Holy shit! The lies that you have put

Tesla's Q2 Gross Profit was 900 million with a Gross profit of -170 Million.

Where did you get the 25B Gross Profit from?

qroshan··on Tesla Software Version 10.0
Huh?, 2008 they were not in survival mode. There wasn't anything there for Tesla to crash.

Tesla now operates in Billions of dollars. A 10% miss in sales results in Billions in losses.

qroshan··on Echo Frames – Eyeglasses with Alexa
1) I already wear glasses, and I hate earbuds. This product suits me perfectly.

2) Amazon also released earbuds.

qroshan··on Amazon orders 100K electric delivery trucks from Rivian
SpaceX is successful because Charlatan-In-Chief is completely hands-off and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwynne_Shotwell is making sure he stays like that.

At Tesla, he is perfectly playing the role of a Used Car Salesman. Rising price up, prices down, making false promises

qroshan··on Amazon orders 100K electric delivery trucks from Rivian
Tesla took so long for production because Charlatan-In-Chief didn't want to use any of the lessons learned about Auto Manufacturing the past 100 years and decided to do it his way.

Charlatan-In-Chief also assumed he knows more about A.I and Robotics than many who warned him about his 'Alien Dreadnought' vision.

Rest assured people who are focused on building mass cars won't have the same hubris
