qikInNdOutReply··on Windows 12 Plans Reveal a Bold Redesign, Tighter Security, AI-Powered Features
The AI powered features does not even include amateur pipes. You could really build application chains now even as a total amateur. As in source application (internet browser) with AI commands to code ("get me pictures of spiderman"), pipe them to photoshop ("color grade them to black & white and save them"), then put them in an ouput folder.

The pipes and stream automation, previously reserved to linux devs, could now become a normal user experience, encapsulated by prompts and gui application pipes. But thats not were they want to go. So others will. Once any other OS starts to have that (linux or macos) productivity there will skyrocket, and its the end of days for windows.

The tooling will be pretty interesting.. basically prompts per file and a overlaying diff per prompt.. Focus mostly on the almost functional design of software, with well defined input and output as the most important criteria. Also lots of "meta" tags, that filter the trained in network layers for "fast" code, "secure" code, "minimal working smaple" code by injecting addtional prompts. The trick is to use the prompts as a selection menue for the data variations stored within the Network.

And the gameing of horrific incentives to snitch.

Chinese traffic laws come to mind, were reporting somebody overtaking on the right got you a small monetary reward. So folks were creeping on the left side, forcing others to overtake on the right, photos were made, the incident reported, rewards were rept.

Similar things can happen fast on the internet. Bait somebody into breaking the law and report it for a reward. Can even automate it. Piracy and porn comes to mind.

qikInNdOutReply··on The EV Transition Is Harder Than Anyone Thinks
For 90 years, the whole of humanity poored all resources into IC. They got so good, they can go to the moon and back without more then basic maintenance.

We are maybe 10 years into mass market adoption and still have internal resistance to research investments in all major IC companys. So we are not even near the part, were the break throughs happen and far away from the moment the whole affair plateaus out.

We also go against the most entrenched resource industry if ever there was one. Half of the middle east and russia, all dependent on this technology failing. But somewhere, in some cooperate battery lab, there sits someone, who will deal it a lethal blow. And as ECs push ICs into the uneconomical lethal zone, the resistance to it will fade.

You are onto something there. Karaoke already is a thing, and VR-Series reenactment might have the same appeal.
qikInNdOutReply··on Is Babylon 5 secretly the most influential TV show of the past 25 years? (2021)
The first one though :

The cult of tradition for example. If they really whorshipped traditions, facist movements wouldnt regularly destroy their whole environment and society, uprooting all that was before.

Take ISIS and Nazi Germany, they pretended to be pro Traditions, but at the same time destroyed all that had come before completely and utterly.

I found the "states regressing to tribal society und pressure while wielding a industrial economy" to be the better description of the problem.

Though in that criteria, ISIS was not that facist, as they never had the debt loaded industrial economy that defines a full scale non-local regression.

Its privatized power, trying to break out the containement vessel that is a democratic society. Once it succedds it continues to build little autocratic empires in the host, similar to tumors. The whole libertarian ideolog is just that, the secretions of tumors, trying to convince the host, that this is friendly, normal and actually a net positive growth to the creature being devoured.

Of course the anti-bodies, aka taxes have to be supressed, otherwise the defenses kick and and a normal society returns.

? That share market in china is a inhouse market, and completely state-controlled. There is no "free" market as in its public and free of influence. It already collapsed once and was propped up.

qikInNdOutReply··on Ask HN: Trauma has broken me. Nothing has worked. Alternatives to suicide?
Anxiety is normal. Any animal on this planet has it. Get yourself in "percieved" danger (climbing) and survive, to recalibrate that sense of anxiety, which is constant firing due to the society surrounding us being actively hostile to its inhabitants.

For medication resistant depression may i suggest: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroconvulsive_therapy

Notice also, that just because you are out of ideas and the situation is theraphy resistant, you do not have to end it "traditionally" and may instead try to go for "statistical" suicide by turning your life into a dangerous endavour.

Travel to dangerous places, jump out of working airplanes with parachutes, try to percieve the fact that you are as free as a creature under the sun can be.

Also the obligatory legally demanded worthless advice of thoughts, prayers and theraphy, ritually mumbled usually by those who actively participated in creating todays society.

Because a conservative notion in a unstable, moving situation kills you? No sitting out the whole affair in a hut, when the situation is a mountain slide?

Which also makes a hostile AI a futile scenario. The worst AI has to do to take out the species, is lean back and do nothing. We are well under way on the way out by ourselves..

Japan banned guns until 1800, they had them since 16xx something. The truth is we can not even ban technology. It does not work. Humanity as a whole does not exist. Political coherence as a whole does not exist. Wave aside the fig leave that is the UN and you can see the anarchic tribal squable of the species tribes.

And even those tribes are not crisis stable. Bad times and it all becomes a anarchic mess. And that is were we are headed. A future were a chaotic humanity falls apart with a multi-crisis around it, while still wielding the tools of a pre crisis era. Nuclear powerplants and nukes. AIdrones wielded by ISIS.

What if a unstoppable force (exponential progress) hits a unmoveable object(humanitys retardations).. stay along for the ride.

qikInNdOutReply··on Sex worker-led payment platform shuts down after being cut off by processor
So you would describe a social violent, abstinent monastry in the desert as a healthy society? As in, a society is the sum of artifacts & progress it produces, not the well being of its members?
qikInNdOutReply··on Sex worker-led payment platform shuts down after being cut off by processor
Its very strange, when more prude cultures like the us project this prudishness upon other parts of the world.

When its viewed through the eyes of abroad the cultural perversion of it all pops out like a hologram.

Its totally a human right/free speech to have the tools necessary to end a human life. Its totally evil/harassment worthy to document/publish the creation process of a human life.

What is the origin for this puritan fervor by those engaging in virtual interest wankery all day? "If I have no life, none shall have it? NaneShallActBare."

qikInNdOutReply··on Jaron Lanier on the danger of AI
Technology implies beligerence

The problem i see, that someone might send our "primitive" AI into a hostile environment, were it has to compete against other AI, creating a "take-over" and a "devensive" monster, similar to the go automaton. While the real world training data might be dripping, the speed in which a NN under evolutionary pressure against itself might evolve could go through the roof.

qikInNdOutReply··on Moviemaking and gamemaking are converging
They are not.

The gamedesigners who are all "Show" not "play" are the worst. Same as authors who wan to "tell" and not "show" in movies.

Those who have "cool" scenes in there heads, which they want to make into a game, make for the worst, cause not interactive game experiences. Stop conflating a passive medium and a active medium.

Its even worse, if they glue singleplayer "movies" into multiplayer without gameplay considerations. As if the the ten other players want to wait for that cool "finnish" him cinematic to play the 100 time over.

The technology base might be merging, but god safe us from the merging of the creator bases.

I wish this myth would die, once and for all.

qikInNdOutReply··on Kelly ‘Aloria’ Lum has died
The candle that burns twice as bright, burns half as long.

Many not neuro typical people burn out in one way or another and "vannish". But without the non-neuro typical behaviour, you would not get the expertise.

If you can not recongize faces, you are less likely to socialize and more likely to escape into reading or coding, or any other creative non social endavour.

If you are bi polar, you are way more able to turn your life into a "story" of great highs and falls, which might even affect other lifes. In a way the madness maketh the genius. And then unravels it. Turns out for the relations/familys though, that its not great to life in a play.

We need ways beyond medication to keep people around that spin themselves apart. Because they notice and love/hate what makes them themselves. If you are a bipolar actor and you have a choice between "acting" and crashing, or a zombie existence, then the "zombie" is not a problem solved beyond having 1up in the statistics.

Same goes for the bellybutton, that navel connected from one living being to another, back to the first mamal.
qikInNdOutReply··on TikTok is a threat. So is the rest of Big Tech
Tech companys are paid to hack the customers brains in one way or another. The add buisness is nothing but a plausibel veneer for the "free services to exist" that allow to manipulate, observe and destroy.

The reason for the whole thing to be is obvious. Governments and companys are scared shitless of the multi-crisis coming up and want levers to pull that dont break and contain dissent. And they want to come out of the crisis, sitting on top of the ash heap. This is the actual buisness model and purpose to exist, not the friendly colorful sweets shop upfront.

Panopticon. Social egineering. Leviathancybernetics. Because solving problems for politicians is not a worthy endavour.

They want to solve the "meta"-problem that is the enraged citizen, the protesting org, the social unravelling forces that could uproot them.

Solution: Let them fight, blue vs greens, instead of discussing and forcing actual problem solutions. Big Tech is now a integral part of the big problem in democracy.
