qdhqdhqdg··on Adding Encrypted Group Calls to Signal
They still force you to give your phone number, they still refuse to be on F-Droid, they still force you to go through their own server and not self host, their UX still sucks.

Once those points are addressed Signal would be great

qdhqdhqdg··on Apple’s Anti-Tracking Plans for iPhone
Not hard to be the most privacy focused big company when the competition Google , Facebook or Amazon...

I don't understand why we should always have good guys and bad guys and we can't accept that none of those company respect us.

Nothing will change if we relay Apple's propaganda about privacy. People will think that the solution is already there and it's Apple. And it's not. Apple has catastrophic Privacy, just a bit less catastrophic than Google but that's it.

They don't even encrypt your cloud, how's that remotely close to "privacy focused company"

qdhqdhqdg··on Anti-fingerprinting extensions tend to make fingerprinting easier
We should make fingerprinting illegal.

Fingerprinting is an exploit, an attack on the person and machine. It is tracking using mechanisms that were not meant for tracking.

It is without consent and it is without user control (you can clear cookies, you can't clear the fingerprint you've let on thousands of website you browse every week).

Cookies, Local Storage (and IP) should be the only legally authorised means of tracking

qdhqdhqdg··on Qt 6.0
For me personally, the takeway is that both GTK and QT are getting old.

React (and Svelte, etc.) have completely changed the way we build apps, and typical QT & GTK apps are still being written in a retained mode approach with signals & callbacks like 20 years ago.

QML is quite interesting but it doesn't feel immediate mode enough like React & Svelte.

Flutter, JetPack Compose, Crochet, Fidget, Revery, MakePad, Svelte, etc. all those bring so many new ideas. GTK or QT feel so complicated and hard maintain in comparaison

qdhqdhqdg··on A free-as-in-freedom re-implementation of Google’s Android user space
The level of privacy you get with a degooglized Android is light years better than any Apple product.

There are enough privacy scandal every months in the news to remind ourselves that Apple privacy is mainly marketing.

If I have to choose betweens stock Android and stock IOS, I would go IOS too, but none of those solution should be considered decent for privacy

qdhqdhqdg··on Godot's 2D engine gets several improvements for upcoming 4.0
"Open-source" means nothing alone, what matters is the licence. For eg. Unreal Engine is "open-source" but under strict license. Defold engine is also "open-source" but has a Apache-modified custom licence preventing the commercialization of editor derived work (so no commercial custom editor), etc.

There are many degree of openness and Godot goes full MIT so Godot is truely yours (both the editor and the engine)

It hasn't anymore. They removed it some times ago
