With over ten years of experience as a full-stack engineer, I've worn all the hats (also as a founder), developed, and shipped several products end-to-end. I'd love to work with early-stage startups where I can bring my product mindset to my engineering work.

I have been working remotely throughout my career, can comfortably work in and provide overlap with US and EU timezones.

pyvek··on A fitness watch that measures blood pressure
They do have this under tech specs:

Power source: 1 Lithium ion polymer rechargeable battery, AC adapter

Battery lifespan: Will last for approximately 500 cycles, 8 times/day measurements in normal temperatures of 77 °F (25 °C) when new battery fully charged

Battery life: A typical user can expect to charge HeartGuide approximately 2-3 times per week, depending upon the frequency of use of HeartGuide’s features

pyvek··on Ask HN: Where's the best place to work remotely?
I did the same thing – I had an private cabin in a co-working space for some time and then moved out to a larger apartment with a dedicated office room. It's been working pretty well so far, although I have make sure I go out for workout and some tea every day to prevent myself from going insane.
pyvek··on Ask HN: Is there an email service that allows plaintext and respects my privacy?
I'm curious why you don't want to use HTML.

pyvek··on Ask HN: Cheap dedicated hosting options for side projects
Something to know about before going with delimiter – https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/4hx9w4/eve_online...
pyvek··on Show HN: Automatic private time tracking for OS X
I second this. This might be too much for this app but I'd really like to be able to track time manually for a project (like toggl.com) and then be able to see the overview for the project at once as opposed to overall view right now.
pyvek··on Ask HN: Is Googlebot signing up for accounts on stackoverflow?
Maybe this is an error on Stackoverflow's end, (i.e. serving "Please click the link in the confirmation email to activate your subscription." text to googlebot) and then it went into google index.
pyvek··on Ask HN: Is getting into a top ~5 CS PhD program possible in mid-30s?
garkimasera's comment seems to be shadowbanned, so I'm re-posting his comment for visibility.

Ideally, I'd go to one of the top 4 departments: Stanford, MIT, Berkeley, CMU. Graduates of top universities with decent skills don't have a hard time finding jobs. I'll probably add Columbia and Harvard (middling departments, strong lay prestige) as (irony here) "safety schools". A quant fund isn't going to know the difference between a Harvard CS PhD and one from MIT (or might put Harvard higher).

Anything below the top 20 (and it's top 10 in the rest of STEM and top 1-2 in humanities) has to be purely for the education, though. You're right that a #40 PhD, while the educational program is probably fine, won't fix your career.

Also, the academic job market is terrible and that does not change if you have a PhD from an elite department. That's not what I'm aiming for.

pyvek··on Ask HN: You're building an app in 2016 – How would you let users login?
I've seen some of the large websites in India offer OTP (one time password) login using SMS, which I personally have used many times. You enter your mobile no, get an OTP and login with that. Removes the hassle of remembering the password.
pyvek··on Netflix Is Now Available Around the World
But the library isn't as big in India as it is in the US so you might want to keep your VPN subscription after all.
pyvek··on The mystery of India’s deadly exam scam
Also that most of the people who buy their way into a government job are most probably incompetent. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy because the ones who themselves bought in their way using corruption are very much likely to repeat the same with others once they are in the government.
pyvek··on The mystery of India’s deadly exam scam
This sort of corruption is still running strong here in India. A few days ago an acquaintance of my father told him that he knows a guy who can get her daughter a government job for a fee of 8 lakhs (~$12,000). And that he would go for it, given he had this much money. The sentiment was that he treats this bribe as an investment, which can be recovered from the job salary in a couple years and is worth it.
pyvek··on Entering Public Beta
I'd like to know more about this. When you buy domain validated SSL certificate (that costs $5-10) for which the process is completely automated, does the issuing authority really check or care about which domain it is being used on? Does a human (or a program) check the "suspicious factor" of the domain?
pyvek··on Ask HN: Is anyone using GraphQL / Relay in production?
Could you please elaborate on the difficulties you're facing? I'm about to begin a new project in React Native.
pyvek··on Ask HN: What are you currently learning in your spare time?
That's awesome! I hope to go through that course soon. I just finished 2nd week assignments of Algorithms- Design and Analysis on Coursera - https://www.coursera.org/course/algo
pyvek··on Ask HN: How to learn algorithms and become a good programmer?
I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Perhaps we can collaborate and work through the study material together? If you're still reading this thread and are interested in this, please reach me via email – me at vivek dot im.

pyvek··on Ask HN: Do you have a spare domain that I could use?
If you have a credit card or an international debit card, you can switch currency on godaddy to USD and then it'll cost you about INR 70. ;)
pyvek··on Ask HN: Do you have a spare domain that I could use?
I'm from India too and I have bought a few $0.99 domains from godaddy in past few months. Let me know if you're still looking for a domain and I can help you buy it for $0.99 or buy one for you. Email is in my profile.
pyvek··on AWS Lambda as a back end for a single-page app
Is there also any limit on machine resources that a single request can use? I'm curious about cases in which requests might need non-trivial amount of computational power.
pyvek··on Tim Cook Speaks Up
Then I suppose you consider medical advancements to be unnatural and thus bad too as compared to the natural course of letting the diseases just kill you and similarly modern form of communications bad as well over the traditional flapping of mouth flesh.

pyvek··on Ask HN: How bad is it to use a self-signed SSL certificate?
That was the problem. Works well on my android now. Thanks!
pyvek··on Ask HN: How bad is it to use a self-signed SSL certificate?
Also, StartSSL's certs don't work on android (you get cert not trusted error) for some reason.
