pytyper2··on AWS Mesh Generally Available
Amazon using it is a big endorsement, I would also imagine that they contribute bug reports.
pytyper2··on Study: Two Monitors or One Ultrawide
How far do each of you sit from the monitors?
pytyper2··on Why Some Doctors Hesitate to Screen Smokers for Lung Cancer (2015)
What does '/s' indicate?
pytyper2··on Buy Yourself a Latte
I feel articles like this should recommend an annual income threshold, if you are buying these lattes with a credit card while your checking account is over-drafted then it is going to indirectly affect your retirement. But I do acknowledge that most people reading this are probably not in an over-drafted position.
pytyper2··on Why Some Doctors Hesitate to Screen Smokers for Lung Cancer (2015)
That's about right.
pytyper2··on Network Determines Success More Than People Realize
This is the most important point. Networks are created mostly, not only born into. Success recognizes skill, by developing a skill then ASKING to work for successful organizations(big and small) the network grows naturally.
pytyper2··on An unusual class of molecules could revolutionise the electronics industry
I wish I could answer that, probably some delusional personality trait that wants to study science instead of programming.
pytyper2··on Why Some Doctors Hesitate to Screen Smokers for Lung Cancer (2015)
It would depend on what needs fixing? Are we talking engine internals of the stuff that hangs of the engine?
pytyper2··on Why Some Doctors Hesitate to Screen Smokers for Lung Cancer (2015)
I periodically smoke, yet I don't call myself a smoker. Yet when I buy insurance I buy the smokers plan, the idea being that if I do need to use the insurance I expect the Insurance company to use any information necessary to deny my claim. Should I be worried about this?
pytyper2··on An unusual class of molecules could revolutionise the electronics industry
My lay-brain imagines that a wire of the same "length" could hold much more power that would flow with much less resistance.
pytyper2··on Prince Harry and Meghan took my Instagram name
That family has been stealing from the plebs for hundreds of years, why is this newsworthy?
pytyper2··on Git9: Git Reimagined for the Plan 9 OS
We just assume that when we commit, the code has been tested in the local dev environment. Better not be committing untested code to my repos, that will get you reprimanded.
pytyper2··on Git9: Git Reimagined for the Plan 9 OS
Same here. Without staging how do I change 10 files but only commit 3 of them? For example working on a change, then notice a bug that should be fixed now. Currently I just stage the 3 files for the hot bug fix, commit those, deploy, then continue working on the remaining 7 files.
pytyper2··on Goldman Sachs will open-source some of its trading software
It's probably not a download it and run it piece of software, there are probably lots of configurations and likely requires the user to provide their own models and trading rules.
pytyper2··on A glacier the size of Fla is on track to change the course of human civilization
"It reportedly has an area the size of two-thirds of a Manhattan and, it as tall as a ten story building, at 1000 feet." - I don't understand this sentence.
pytyper2··on Lack of redundancies on Boeing 737 MAX baffles some involved in developing it
"...everything works great despite the occasional check engine light..." that may make you feel better but it's not true. The life and efficiency of your engine is being reduced. What year, make, model are you driving? When you sell it do you plan on telling the next owner that you drove it religiously with the check engine light on?
pytyper2··on Averages Can Be Misleading: Try a Percentile (2014)
This entire thread is great, 10 data scientists all want their own special chart to be the best. You are all wrong, you should have a view of all these charts!!!! hahaha
pytyper2··on I tried creating a web browser, and Google blocked me
This seems like poor planning, I would have recommended to verify licenses for all required technology were available before investing time.
pytyper2··on The CIA Campaign to Steal Apple's Secrets (2015)
If you redefine terrorism to remove the dependence on violence, unless I missed something in the article? I don't personally believe that trying to find security flaws terrorism.
pytyper2··on American Hackers Helped UAE Spy on Al Jazeera Chairman, BBC Host
These would be business expenses and would hopefully be reimbursed. You didn't interpret the suggestion in a very charitable way.
pytyper2··on Researchers trick Tesla autopilot into driving into opposing traffic
They probably needed the data collected by the current hardware in order to consider developing the next generation. Then they needed the hardware in order to develop the software. The only way to get the data is from a real fleet running hardware and software you control.
pytyper2··on Intel VISA Exploit Gives Access to Computer’s Entire Data, Researchers Show
Can I enter your factory and inspect the dies as they come off the line before they are sealed? If yes, then you could indeed verify the silicon is as designed. Probably just as you could take a chip that does not work and diagnose the problem, this functionality would seem to be necessary to successfully build a chip/chip factory in the first place. How would you troubleshoot the manufacturing process if you couldn't audit the product for quality/accuracy?
pytyper2··on Sovereign Citizens Helped Swindle $1B from the Government They Disavow
They don't find them, they pay to have them created.
pytyper2··on Ask HN: I will pay you $2000 and code the MVP for your side-project
But more importantly, if I build the product and get the first customer what do I need you for? 2k is chicken shit. Unless the idea is a throwaway, something I'm not passionate about, I'd just build it myself.
pytyper2··on Ask HN: I will pay you $2000 and code the MVP for your side-project
Maybe not hurt if it was not dilutable, the initial 20% holder could be issued more shares to keep their percentage at 20%. By the time 3 or 4 rounds are raised the initial 80% owner might only retain 20% after dilution. So in the end you have to look at the cap table after future rounds, the fact that during a period of history (probably before there is any real cash to distribute) the split was 80/20 won't matter.
pytyper2··on Intel VISA Exploit Gives Access to Computer’s Entire Data, Researchers Show
If this is truly for assembly line diagnostics they should add a hardware self destruct to the interlink with those circuits, after VISA serves the intended purpose fry it. Is that a reasonable and technically feasible option?
pytyper2··on Dehumanization of cyclists predicts self-reported aggressive behaviour to them
I did not say the swerve was safe, I said that a even safe driver (driver who drives defensively) driver might have to swerve. Any unplanned reactionary movement of the steering is of course not safe. Seems like you misread what I typed, or maybe you're a natural gaslighter?
pytyper2··on LHCb discovers matter-antimatter asymmetry in charm quarks
Just getting back to follow up on my question now, and I have to agree, this was very thoughtful. If hacker news had the equivalent of reddit gold I would give you some.
pytyper2··on Dehumanization of cyclists predicts self-reported aggressive behaviour to them
Accidents happen, just because you find yourself in a situation that requires you to swerve does not mean you were driving unsafe. Why does swerving imply the driver is unsafe? Surely you can imagine a safe driver having to swerve in some situations, right?
pytyper2··on Dehumanization of cyclists predicts self-reported aggressive behaviour to them
Worked with a guy like that once, In his review I wrote he was a great inductive reasoner.
