pwarner··on Build a do-it-yourself home air purifier for about $25
Their site is simple but it works great. I "installed" my outdoor sensor by laying it on my desk inside and plugging it in. Will move outside when fires end.
pwarner··on Build a do-it-yourself home air purifier for about $25
I am relying on 2 purple air sensors 10 miles away in opposite directions for an outside estimate. They are usually within 10%, and we are in the same valley, so should be close. I also see when I stop the furnace fan, levels spike. Then drops when I turn on again...
pwarner··on Build a do-it-yourself home air purifier for about $25
I've been running a 3M Filtrete MPR 2800 in my furnace filter. https://www.purpleair.com/ confirms it works. There house averages maybe 60 PM 2.5 vs 200 outside. Don't know how good it is for furnace, but it hardly runs otherwise in Northern CA.

https://www.purpleair.com/ seems to work great for me!
pwarner··on Project Volutus: Micro data centers at base of cell towers
60 miles then rtt 90 was high, sorry I know it's not full speed of light in vacuum.. but had some error
pwarner··on Project Volutus: Micro data centers at base of cell towers
But if you have fiber 100 Gbps is easy and 10 Tbps is possible, at higher cost. This is today, in a year it will be 2 or 4x. This is all a single fiber pair, probably there are dozens.
pwarner··on Project Volutus: Micro data centers at base of cell towers
There site is dead, so maybe I missed some benefit. But aren't we talking about a 1ms latency increase to back haul to a proper data center? In theory you can go 90 miles if I did my math right.
pwarner··on EC2 Instance Update – C5 Instances with Local NVMe Storage
Now they just need R5 instances for our RAM hungry apps. Keep the local nvme please.

Looks like this fern fixed it last time? So no worries then. Might take a while... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azolla_event

Ciena | IT Cloud Architect | ONSITE (Baltimore, MD) or REMOTE, USA | Full-Time

IT Infrastructure Enterprise Cloud Architect

Diverse existing and new business system workloads needs to move to AWS, Azure (or Oracle?!?!) clouds. Large migration project. Hands on cloud and automation experience required, as well as ability to drive discussions and vision at executive level. Candidate would be able to get to Hanover, MD office easily. Either local or remote.

Ciena is a major network gear and software vendor, probably this message went over our gear to reach you. In addition to using cloud providers, they are our customers.

pwarner··on Increased Network Bandwidth for EC2 Instances
I bet some customers at least for some apps never move? And I presume at some point they just power them off and recycle them. With some forced maintenance over time they can consolidate to a small corner of the DC and install new systems around them? Just guesses..
pwarner··on Comcast partners with AWS as it struggles to fight cord-cutting disruption
Comcast was a large openstack user and proponent. Is this a step away from openstack?
pwarner··on Teleport 2.0 Released: Modern SSH for clusters and teams
Thanks, this is perfect. Will try it out!
pwarner··on Teleport 2.0 Released: Modern SSH for clusters and teams
Is there an architecture overview for this case?

> Software vendors: they like Teleport for providing remote support of their products. Teleport can be used as a “remote control” to assist their customers with any issues of their software installed and running on-premise.

How does the customer control access to the app deployed on their premise?

Thanks!

Not nearly as deep, but the Sierra should have lots of snow this summer. Reference https://www.nps.gov/lavo/planyourvisit/fourth-of-july-weeken...

pwarner··on How to take a picture of the Milky Way
If you have a reasonable camera and tripod you need to try this. I caught comet Lovejoy: a dozen green pixels out of 16 million.... But I caught it, without any experience or too fancy a setup. Also fun, point at the darkest, emptiest spot of sky and be amazed at all the stars you see in the photo. Rather fun.

pwarner··on Tech workers think Silicon Valley and startups are losing their luster
Two more national monuments I did not know about. Not parks. Was fun to see what's near by.

7, but redwood national park is just too far. All without traffic of course.

pwarner··on IoT, 4K, virtual reality signal a critical need for broadband speed

pwarner··on Cable TV's plan to kill “over the top” internet streaming
Caps or pay per bit should be OK but only if the price per bit falls over time. Provider cost per bit surely is dropping. But lacking competition they may try to pocket the difference.
pwarner··on The Next Generation Cloud: Unleashing the Power of the Unikernel

pwarner··on Drink Cheap Wine
A fun look at the cost to produe wine. How does wine get to $100 / bottle at retail: http://www.coffaro.com/BrendansTruth.html

Pretty accurate based on what I see price wise as a hobby winemaker. You can make good wine for $5 per bottle in your garage (assuming your time and garage are free!)

pwarner··on AWS C4 Instances
I presume they will add storage optimized instances with local disks in the future?
pwarner··on AWS C4 Instances
Should we expext R4 (ram optimized) or M4 (balanced) instances soon or is the high cost of DDR4 going to delay things?

I am about to reserve some R3 instances so maybe that will speed it up :-)

pwarner··on Verizon has no excuse for its planned cloud outage
Telcos logic lately seems to be: Folks are using the network for something exciting. We know the network part, let's expand into the exciting thing that uses the network. So cloud services, streaming video, app stores. All failures so far.

Wouldn't be such a problem if they did a good job at their core business but as we learn more about google and Amazon's network, it seems like the telcos may fail there too.
