psycho··on Passport scanning sdk (iOS)
Awesome! :)
psycho··on Y Combinator is funding the future of spam in Windows
It's nice move to fund both junk and solution for the junk... Some people say that antivirus software companies are the ones that make viruses, you know...

psycho··on I quit Twitter for a month and it changed my thinking about mostly everything.
Well, it's so interesting that Twitter is so mind changing - maybe I should start using it after all?

But in fact, no, thanks, Facebook is quite enough for now, I guess.

psycho··on Thinking of Selling on eBay using Paypal? Think Again
Don't read TechCrunch, don't sell on Ebay, think twice about Apple... Today's HN headlines make me a bit depressed... :(
psycho··on How I ended up with so much Hacker News karma
Well, I understand that hackers are a bit like scientists - they like to have proved data (by the way, I'm more like a humanitarian who believes his feelings and intuition).

And I understand your reasons and they're quite good. I don't think that it's a bad article to vote up - moreover I like the article too. There's some "pure math" magic in it that I also like (although I'm a humanitarian as I've mentioned before).

psycho··on How I ended up with so much Hacker News karma
Getting karma by post describing how you got karma? Nice move... (guess, I won't get much karma for this comment)

And in fact as I can see there's no much use in HN karma - smart comments are more useful. At least, they can do you good when you apply to YC (that's what PG says at least :)).

psycho··on YC W13 Will Be Smaller
The craziest ideas are usually "frighteningly ambitious" ones, I guess. So, it's easy to understand that these are the ones you, guys, like most.
psycho··on YC W13 Will Be Smaller
ClickFacts still operates, although it doesn't have such astonishing story as Reddit does. More info: http://thenextweb.com/insider/2012/08/05/y-combinators-first...
psycho··on Get ready for the YC interviews: make sure you know the partners
I know that you shouldn't mix Jessica Livingston with secretary - many people do, they say.
psycho··on Get ready for the YC interviews: make sure you know the partners
Heh. Are people from these universities so smart or do other people think that they are smart because they graduated from these universities? Are YC startups good or does YC make them good? Who knows. Here's more university statistics though: http://techcrunch.com/2012/10/29/study-startups-led-by-stanf...
psycho··on The Founder's Lie About Comfort Zones
I think that working outside comfort zone is not necessarily doing the stuff you don't like. You should do the stuff you like and the stuff you're good at - going out of the comfort zone is trying to break working routine and finding new solutions for old problems, it's, in fact, changing the state of mind and constantly learing new things about stuff you like and stuff you're good at.

Of course, there's still need for objective look and understanding of what should be done first. I guess, balanced team of technical and non-technical cofounders should be the way to have it.

psycho··on Want to create a new habit? Get ready to break it.
Very interesting. I'm not that big fan of healthy habbits (I go to bed late at night and get up in the afternoon, for example), though I do some running occasionally. But what I liked in the post is that it's not only about habbits in fact. It's about human's psychology that's involved in doing anything. So we can say: "Don't cease working on your startup if you fail at some point - you should be ready to overcome the failure and pivot or start another project".
psycho··on What the startup visa should really look like
Being foreign tech enterpreneur myself, I think your idea is the most legit. But that is why it seems harder for it to be brought into life, unfortunately.
psycho··on What the startup visa should really look like
Another idea could be giving visas for people who are accepted by accredited accelerators. If PG, for example, believes in someone's ability to make a business why should government officials worry? (that's similar to the original Startup Visa idea but with another investor qualification mechanism and without 100 000 dollars barrier)
psycho··on Internet censorship in Russia - Lurk no more
Site is already removed from "Register" - it received some warnings and had to remove some articles concerning drugs.

But still we are worried about censorship process here.

And, well, maybe it's a coincidence but still I have noticed some problems with internet connection when "Register" started to work. And that also worries me, of course.

psycho··on Everlater acquired by AOL, merged into MapQuest
Not bad for a startup that was started by 2 financial guys who learned to code to build their first startup.
psycho··on Bring Back the 40-hour work week (March 2012)
Forget about "any-number-hour week" - each one has his own work regime and in startups especially you work not for counting hours, I guess.
psycho··on Is Facebook becoming the next MySpace?
I do know about "mess" and problems with reaching fans of the page (wich arouse from the fact that people "like" too many pages in fact) but still Facebook remains more than a site - it's rather a social phenomena. And that's why I don't see the way any competitor come on its place. Although competiton is always for good, of course.
psycho··on Disney to Acquire Lucasfilm Ltd.
Wow, got gooseflesh on reading this news.
psycho··on YC W13 application guide - what is "impressive achievement"
Thanks for the info.
psycho··on YC W13 application guide - what is "impressive achievement"
Guess, I got a problem with defining success of a person who works in a sphere that I don't know very well, unless there's an article in Wikipedia about him. That's my problem but I don't know how to resolve it.
psycho··on Jessica Livingston: What Goes Wrong
Yeah, you're right that there's no 1 law that fits everyone. Still we can say that in general it's easier to work together than alone with a note that there are some exclusions, of course.
psycho··on YC W13 application guide - what is "impressive achievement"
Looked great but... still we didn't hear too much about Colin Percival, did we? Although, his success may be somewhere close - I don't know exactly.
psycho··on YC W13 application guide - what is "impressive achievement"
I'm a business guy in our startup (and work with to tech cofounders) and wrote about starting and gaining reputation for my consulting company. Hope, that suits well. :)
psycho··on Study: Startups Led By Stanford, Harvard Grads Score More VC Funding
I had the feeling that was proved by this statistics.
psycho··on Jessica Livingston: What Goes Wrong
Oh, that makes sence when talking about ideas - not startups. Thanks.
psycho··on Jessica Livingston: What Goes Wrong
In fact, it's much harder to be determined if you work without co-founder (i.e. at least 1 person who supports what you're working on).
psycho··on Jessica Livingston: What Goes Wrong
And what do you think about concept "Do fast and fail fast" meaning in general that you should give up idea (and startup that was based on this idea) as fast as you can if you find out that idea doesn't work?

I agree with "smart pivots" idea but "fail fast" is one thing that I don't understand in "Lean startup" concept as I'm quite persistent and I understand that in general it takes several years for startup to succeed.

psycho··on How We Got into Y Combinator
It looks like you, guys, are embarassed by your age. "We're too old - we are already 27". Damn, I thought that you were at least 50 when I read it. As far as I remember, PG told about 26 to be average age for applicants. I'm 27 right now but I'm not going to retire tomorrow - hell, I'm still to young and will be even when I be 40. :)
